Just got ps3 slim, a little dissapointed

I just got a ps3 slim on black friday. I ordered it from walmart, came on tuesday but I just opened it today(college finals :( ).Intially from taking it out of the box I was impressed. Its a sleak looking little machine and it seems well made. After turning it on though is where I started to get dissapointed. System updates, game installs, demos download SLOW and then need to be installed. The whole thing makes for a pretty crummy user experience. I had never used a PS3 before but there were games I wanted to play (MGS4/ratchet/uncharted) and I will deffinitely play those games but I dont see this taking the place of my 360. Its just not as slick of an experience.

I was a little dissapointed. I read lots of stuff on this forum about how "PSN is just as good" and how the PS3 was just all around better but my intial experinece doesn't agree with this opinion.

Give it a chance. You may have over-hyped it a little, but I am sure the more you get used to the console, the happier you shall be with it :)

Systems need to be updated, and the download speed is a result of your connection. I have a good connection, so downloading a episode of qore off of PSN(never less then 1.5 gigs) takes me a minimum of 15 mins, and the longest was 30 mins. My advice to you is go play a game, i reccomend either MGS4, uncharted, or killzone 2, or go to a video store and buy/rent a blu ray and watch it.

I don't think its my internet. Xbox demos were downloading like 15 minutes. I downloaded the ratchet one and it was about 30-45, On a wired connection.

(thats from a laptop, the PS3 should be faster..)

While I do agree the PS3 interface needs work you judge a system on games first and foremost. Play some then come back.

Owning both consoles is pointless. Return the PS3 and make a friend who ones one.

I also got my PS3 slim on black friday. I have a 100% internet connection, and my demos download pretty damn fast. I actually download multiple things and have no problem.

I felt the same about 360. I feel the NXE is unorganized and junky.

I love the XMB. I just felt like it wasn't as smooth of an experience.

But I do like how game updates are very quick, other than that, I like PS3's

interface a lot more.

That doesn't sound all that bad, at least you're up to date on the firmware so you don't have to worry about that anymore. Enjoy the games, and congrats on the purchase.

HAHA, no kidding or I hope it's cause they're too hammered to drive home.

only advice i have for you is check your internet connection. also, you make it seem like you have to install an update every time you turn it on. updates only come one every few months! you've also probably never played a pc game since god knows you cant bare the time it takes to install a game.

I suggest you update via storage media. It'll probably be faster, especially if your PS3's using wireless. As for the PSN, it's a little messy, and doesn't have as many features as LIVE at present, but it suffices. Plus, you won't have to pay that extra 50 bucks a year.

All I did was give my own personal observations on the PS3 as from someone who just got one today. I think a few of you need to go outside for a while.

I got the PS3 to play certain games, and I will do that but I'm not sure I will make it my main gaming system. It just isn't as good of an experince to me(so far anyway). I only made this topic because I wanted to hear what others who had both thought of what I was feeling.

Sounds like you have a slow connection if the download times are actually slow enough to be causing a problem.. system updates are rare never take that long, and a large demo may take 10-15 minutes.

however, even if you are that impatient, it wont affect your gaming experience whatsoever. I havent encountered lag online even once.

so give some of the games a chance before you decide on the ps3's quality. a couple of downloads aren't a big deal at all

TC, when I had a 360 bioshock and some other demo's only downloaded maybe 5-8 minutes faster on the 360 if that. Some of you act like 360 demos are instant downloads lol.

but, way to go TC. I'm a bit envious. just decided earlier this week that I finally wanted a PS3 (enough exclusives on it at this point that I want). but it'll have to wait until January. hopefully I'll get mine in time for MAG. the thought of 256 online MP is drool worthy.

the ps3 was not built by the gods, contrary to popular I know. Play the games use the blu ray function, surf the net, play online for free and realise that youre getting biggest for your buck,

LOL, Xbox demos have ~1GB, Ratchet demo is ~2,5GB, everything is normal.
