Why is there no usernames in nintendo?

Because having usernames would make too much sense, and Nintendo never does anything that makes proper sense.

I'm not entirely sure about the answer in this case, but I imagine it has something to do with security. If you give each console a friend code number, instead of letting them pick a username, at least you have a lead as to where the console can be located, or something similar should any problems arise with the network.
