I don't like comparing two different genres but think about it:
(using GS)
GeOW gets a 9.6.
9 in gamplay- ducking behind cover and taking pot shots, enjoyable but limited multiplayer, and a whopping grand total of 8-10 different weapons (that includes the sidearms). Not to mention glitches and a short single player mode. and of course, action reload, the only thing new that game brought to the table.
Now lets look at Lair's possibilities in gameplay:
If Lair suceeds with the sixaxis motion sensing features(meaning they work well and are fun), it will be one of the first flight combat games to utilize such a device (unless the wii already has flying games, but I said ONE of the first).
In addition to the sixaxis features, there also the STANDARD gameplay features that look MEDIOCRE at the moment:
Engage in combat on the ground
Ranged fire ball attacks
Close combat in the air between other dragons
Leap from your dragon to commandeer or kill another flyer.
Learn new attacks and maneuvers throughout the game.
Get high scores for rewards.
Multiplayer Mode (still in question but unlikely)
Â
Now lets assume lair gets the same scores as GeOW in the other categories because that is very believeable.
All in all, Gears = mediocre gameplay with the innovative use of action reload = 9.
Lair = innovative motion control, probably mediorcre gameplay = should be 9.
Â
I know it's weird logic, and it is probably off because they are 2 different genres, but I am hyping Lair 9.0+ if the sixaxis works out for it. If it doesn't, it will probably get a 7.something.
It will be interesting to see how GS does this.
