:D agreed
As nice as I think the 360 controller is(for a console it's great), there's no substituting the good 'ol keyboard and mouse combo. I've got 8 buttons on my mouse, and 18 macro keys on my keyboard all for customization, how many console controllers can do that? :P
The only genre I care about having a KB/M with is RTS & MMO..... everything else can be done just fine on a console......
..... and don't talk about FPS, because FPS play just fine on controllers..... as far as KB/M being more precise with shooting it doesn't matter, because when I'm playing a FPS on my 360 over Live.... everyone I'm playing against is using a 360 controller too.

If you had to competitively play a FPS game, would you rather be using a keyboard/mouse or a 360 controller?

harsh on the hands and less percise, worse key placements
less precise? worse key placements? what are you smoking?
right, because turn-based strategy, simulators or sport managers will play fine on a pad :DThe only genre I care about having a KB/M with is RTS & MMO..... everything else can be done just fine on a console......

and sure FPSes can be played on a pad, just like fighting games or racers can be played well on keyboard only
It really just depends on what you are playing. Since FPS are apparently all the rage these days, yes, keyboard and mouse are a really good controller. Tell you what, you'd have to pay me an hourly wage to play a fighting game, platformer, or racing game with keyboard and mouse.juno84I would rather play fighting game, platformer or racing game on a KB+mouse than FPS on a pad personaly

360 controller.... because I've spent alot more time playing FPS's on it over the past few years...... and if it were competitive then my competition would be using the same input device as I would anyway.
Back in college I played a match of Duke Nukem 3D against a guy..... he thought he could beat me with KB/M... while I used Keyboard Only..... guess what, I won.

Oh, I find racing games with keyboard and mouse to be the worst. Fighting games I don't like to play on a controller or kb/m. I use an arcade stick. Keyboard and mouse is way superior to gamepad for FPS though.

Edit* okay.... instead of RTS... lets just say Strategy..... and Simulators I won't even classify as a game, games are fun.... sims are not, & Sport Managers???? This is not a genre... you need to include as a Sim if anything...... Ohhh.... a Manager Simulation.... WOW LET THE FUN BEGIN!!!

so just because you're too ignorant to acknowledge other peoples' taste it means those games do not exist? :DSorry, but some people can have fun with games that require more than constant button mashing

I think this is really the important part of your post. It does not feel good to you. And although billions of people around the world find the KB/M combo suitable for a huge variety of tasks, I guess you have more wisdom than them.

Using a bargin bin keyboard?
I agree. The only game i like using the KB/M with are RTS games. I hate using it for FPS/TPS games because for me it feels so unnatural pushing W to walk forward compared to having an analogue stick. I also prefer pulling a trigger to fire rather than clicking on a mouse. Plus the lack of force feedback sucks. Thats why 360 is a console of choice for shooters.GazzaB
Heh, I like how you say movement is unatural, when the 360 controllers triggers are not even like proper triggers, on top of that PC's looking around and aiming is alot more natural.
360 is the 2nd choice for shooters, controllers are slugish, bulky, and force feeback is so pointless, I never understood the nerdgasm for vibrating controllers.

I know but pulling on something to fire feels better than clicking a mouse. Plus i meant to say my console of choice for shooters. Im not trying to bash M/KB, i was just stating my opinion. Its seems some people out there think everyone has to like the M/KB over controllers.
OK, let me tell you this:
1. The 360 controller has got to be the worst and ugliest-looking controller out on the market.
2. Any console controller can be used with a PC swell.
3. Let's play a 1vs.1 match on any FPS, you being with a 360 contrl. and me- with KB/M and see who wins.
4. And here's something new for you: YOU CAN TYPE WITH A KEYBOARD!!!

You dont really need to type on consoles, but if you do you can buy a usb keyboard to use on a 360

Just because you have horrible several years old mouse and keyboard, all of them don't necessarily suck. Here again comes up the best thing about PC gaming: choice. You have tons of different keyboards and mice to choose from and there's definitely one that will suit you well.
If it's a matter of personal taste, you're free to challenge the notion that the mouse and keyboard is better for everyone.
It is also fine to say that the controller works for some genres.
But for the genres that the mouse and keyboard can be used proficiently, such as FPS, RTS, MMORPG, or whatever example you may please, the mouse and keyboard have it all over the controller in performance.
RTS and MMORPGs are nearly undebatable that the mouse and keyboard is better.
But FPS is a more level field. However, a person who's great with a controller will always be outclassed by someone who's great with a mouse and keyboard. Analog sticks just don't have the precision that a mouse has. The controller can also make some tasks in FPS games difficult to do over a keyboard. Some actions require that you use the either the d-pad or button pad, which means you have to take your thumb away from either analog stick, which either leaves you not moving or not looking/aiming for a brief second or two.
I know that doesn't sound like much to take your thumb away for just a second, but we're talking about an FPS, where in the middle of a gunfight, every second is important.
With the keyboard, you usually reserve your index, middle, and ring finger for movement, which leaves your thumb and pinky available to do all the extra actions required. On a keyboard, that's rather easy since there are numerous buttons and therefore, numerous actions you can assign and execute with just your thumb and pinky. Of course you occassionaly do you have remove one of the fingers you reserve for movement to press a nearby button that your thumb or pinky can't reach, but you can still move with the other fingers and the transition goes a bit smoother.
In conclusion, for the FPS genre, the mouse gives a huge advantage and the keyboard gives a small one over a controller.

The only game iv'e ever tried using a 360 controller on pc is San Andreas and it didn't work, you have to download drivers or mapping programs for it to work properly and its pretty complicated.

I can't stand playing a game that is not PES 2008 without a keyboard and mouse, controllers are just too limiting for me, but that's just my opinion.
An "IMO" at the end of your sentece would have saved you from being nothing more than a troll.

In terms of controls, the Wiimote+Nunchuk has the 360 controller beat for fps. I would rather play a fps shooter on Wii, since it at least tries to mimic the K & M setup.

First off learn to spell, and I haven't ever encountered a game that doesn't let me use a gamepad (xpadder ftw).
It's more comfortable for me, but you are just fanboy, I shouldn't bother.

Console controllers are designed for pick up and play fun. KB/M configurations are for fast paced and highly skilled gameplay. The fact is, with a mouse, you have direct control over the pointer, with joysticks, you are just accelerating the pointer in a direction til you get it to the right place which is why KB/M is more accurate.

The statement is his opinion whether he types "IMO" or not. That phrase "IMO" or "that's just your opinion" is one of the most annoying in the English language, and frankly people who type it, as though it's a cop-out for saying whatever inane bullsnot they want, ("well that's just my opinion, and opinions can't be wrong!") ought to be corrected.
-
It's his opinion - however his opinion is wrong - "and the keyboard is just diasasterous" is simply an uninformed statement - from the perspective of input speeds and accuracy of a trained user, the keyboard is one of the greatest interface systems ever created - assuming you have a quality board, and not some plastic piece of crap that came free with your Dell.
"I don't feel comfortable using a keyboard to play games" or even his "the mouse does not feel good for me" are valid statements of preference, and certainly we could see where people stand on them, but to say keyboards are "disasterous" - well I challenge you to find someone who can type with the same speed & accuracy on a 360 controller.
-
Really, it all comes down to what the game does - a pair of analog joysticks is an excellent means of controlling certain games - other games, for example an RTS, having dozens of buttons to map specific commands to is a huge advantage - using a 360 controller for some of these games is a bit like only using a mouse without the keyboard to play the game - you simply don't have the ability to do the multi-tasking that is the heart of the experience.
the mouse does not feel good for me and the keyboard is just diasasterous, they are not as comfortable as a 360 controllerlm2f
lol wut? Ok lets have you play a Counter Strike Source match with you using just the Xbox360 controler..
I prefer the xbox controler, kb/m is nice but doesnt feel as good, of course its easier to aim with kb/m but to easy. plus the analog stick feels better for moving than wasd, i enjoyed halo 2 and gears more on xbox than on the pc, ive played my share of pc fps, i love day of deafeat, counter strike, unreal tournament 2004, tribes, and ex.)
by the way the argument, "u use a 360 controller and ill use my kb/m and we will see who wins" is retarded, people playing competive on xbox are playing others on xbox, and people on pc are playing people on pc. we know aiming is alot easier on pc, that doesnt mean its better, the keyboard in know way feels more comfortable in my hands than a contoller.
jeezers
Mouse is not easier by any means. When you play other who are also playing mouse than it becomes whoever is more skilled. Try playing a game like painkiller and tell me how "easy" it is.
