I really don't understand why it's praised so much.  I owned a SNES but all I played was Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat back in the day.  Sure it had blood, 'finishing moves', and combos, but it could never touch MK1, 2 or 3.

there I said it.  8)

Yes because those insanely fast moves and fluid combat were direct rip offs from Mortal Kombats stiff set of moves....You didn't even know who Fulgore was in Kev-Unreals thread so you haven't even played Killer Instinct to know anything about it.

When asked who Fulgore was you replied...

[QUOTE="Zuluking187"]Who?DementedDragon

I've never heard of him/her/it either.

COMBO!!!!....I really liked it. Plus that was a sweet cartridge, I remember getting that slick black cartridge for my birthday. I hope Rare makes a XBA KI game, even though I would get so owned in it. I probably invested more time into MK2 though.

What you're saying is like Street Fighter is imitating Tekken! This topic has no point and I think both games are unique and a must have to any gamer.

We could also say every 3-d fighter was based off the first Virtua Fighter. Doesn't mean other 3-d fighitng games aren't good.

Fulgore is practically the icon of Killer Instinct. He was on the SNES cartridge and practically covered both sides of the arcade cabinets of Killer Instinct I and II. If you played the game for any reasonable amount of time to say that it is garbage you would know who Fulgore is. The truth is you have either never played it, watched it being played and never played it, or probably played one match. Regardless of which an opinion about something you have never put any considerable amount of time into is a worthless opinion in my book.

I never said the game was bad, it just wasn't for me.  As soon as I saw the blood I thought "mortal kombat", which wasn't necessarily a bad thing but I was already enjoying MK2.

The only MK game which actually came close to either KI game from a gameplay perspective was MK II... And that only came close.

Well since Brutalities weren't introduced until MK3 you have a point, but MK was one of the first to introduce the blood and 'fatalities.'

Well MK only began to get bad after MK: Trilogy (which was in a way, it's 'last stand.')  But it was a great 2-D fighter back in it's prime, so great that it made me forget about the others (KI included).

Except Street Fighter.

The fighting engine in Killer Instinct is just a million miles ahead of the stiff moves of Mortal Kombat

  • Release Moves
  • Counters/Parry's
  • Pressure Moves
  • Auto-Doubles
  • Roll/Recovery
  • Slo-Mo Combos
  • Speed Up Combos
  • Transition Moves
  • Shadow Moves
  • Air Combos

I can't think of the rest off the top of my head. But nothing compares to the Ultimate Combo's and C-C-C-Combo Breaker! Brutality's were all preset combo's that pretty much happened the same way every time. You could vary and interchange Ultimate Combo's. Killer Instinct was just a more flexible fighter in my opinion.

I really don't understand why it's praised so much.  I owned a SNES but all I played was Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat back in the day.  Sure it had blood, 'finishing moves', and combos, but it could never touch MK1, 2 or 3.

there I said it.  8)

DementedDragon

Yeah, and MK was a pale imatation of SF. There, I said it.

So you are saying a game you have never played is much worse than a game you have played? No offence but that doesnt make a very good argument

You mean Ultra Combos? Those were the ones more akin to Brutalities. Ultimate Combos ended in a Danger Move (which could be the normal finisher like Jago's dragon flame, or a special one like his sword impalement). Both Ultras and Ultimates were equally sick. 8)

NO! that would completely destroy a original series. but thought, I wish there was a KI3 for the arcades when arcades was popular like back in the days.

I would have to disagree.... I would much rather see a sequal to Killer Instinct than another Mortal Kombat... I'm kind of tired of MK still existing at this point but that may just be me.

Safe to say, this TC has got severly owned. Hasn't even played KI and his comparisons are weak.. Besides, any true fighter fan loves all the fighting games. SF, MK, KI, VF, Tekken, I'd say DOA but i guess that game is my least out of the ones mentioned.

I don't see how you can forget Fulgore.  He was the "face" of the franchise - like Ryu for Street Fighter.

Was more of a Glacius guy myself.

I don't understand how you can compare, there has been no 3D Killer Instinct yet. However ever since MK has gone 3D it has gone completely downhill, stiff gameplay, new characters are boring and they all pretty much just seem to be an expansion.

Bread_or_Decide

Which is an infinitely better fighter by far.

Still doesn't change the fact that KI had that weird charm that many fighters simply don't have. Nothing brings back childhoos memories better than hearing the announcer scream out "ULTRA! ULTRA! ULTRA!" Man, the soundtrack was badass back then, as well...

If Nintendo can get KI3, that along with Brawl would just keep me busy forever.
