Be honest please. Is there a delay in the controls or are they just heavy? I think theres a delay because no matter how heavy the weapons are, moving the analog stick in the other direction should give immediate results. The animation should immediately stop and the gun should instantly move the other way and then proceed to be heavy. Hopefully you get my description.

Also, heaviness to guns IMO is done right in Bad Company 2. The guns definitely feel heavy but if you want to turn right you can turn right instantly, and left if you want instantly. In Killzone 2, you almost have to wait 1/2 of a second before the action occurs. I mean, isnt this the reason no one aims down the sights in Killzone 2? Everyone I see play, shoots from the hip.

They are heavy because they wanted them to be heavy, its a design choice.

A bit of both at first. Now it's just heavy. They went for a more realistic feel and I actually like it that way. It feels a bit clunky at first, but I was okay with it in a few hours.

I know GG wanted to give the games weapons some weight, but I do agree with the TC here. The weight given to the guns seems to be universal and almost seems more as if sheer laziness took over. It doesn't help FPS's on the PS3 that the controller kinda sucks for them.

I handle FPS on the DS3 just fine :| In fact, I find the assymmetric analog sticks of the 360 controller DISTURBINGLY unconfortable :P It had a better build with much better triggers though. On topic: KZ2 controls were fine. I played the first KZ for 100+h and the feel was very similar in KZ2. IMO it was a anti-rambo mechanic and encouraged patience and strategy. High precision helped a whole lot.

Before the precision controls patch I'd call it a delay. Now I'd call the controls heavy.

In general though, KZ2 does have a laggy feel imo, and I'm a huge fan of the game. I hope the lag issues will be improved in KZ3.

"High Precision" eliminated 1/8 of a second delay. If one didnt carefully compare the controls with it on and off, it might even be dismissed as a placebo effect, but its not. It gets rid of that tiny dead zone, which barely helped.

Heavy but there is some input lag online here and there. Some latency issues. Nothing major or game killing. It's just noticeable here and there.

They did a fact check on it around 11 months back on a website (I cant remember, I might post links after 24 goes off, lol) and confirmed that there isnt any delay in the game.

Yeah I noticed that too. I'd press square and it would take just a bit longer to reload sometimes.

Yeah I noticed that too. I'd press square and it would take just a bit longer to reload sometimes.

Yeah also the kill lag. There's a noticeable delay sometimes when you shoot somebody and you hear the chirp and the kill reaction. It's most noticeable when you use the shotgun.

There's also stuff like when you run over the propaganda speaker there is a noticeable delay until it registers you have it that doesn't feel quite right. Same with picking up another weapon from the floor.

But like jg4xchamp said these issues aren't gamebreaking but are noticeable. I hope they're improved in the next one - that's my main concern. I'm not looking for a substantial graphics improvement, I'd like all the effort to go into performance.

Same, but they might try to appeal to the casual crowd and make them lightweight.

turn the sens up a few notches for kz 2, and you can make it as smooth as cod, imo.

also if you switch to the COD-Like controls, the game is also much easier for me at least.

The Killzone 2 fanboys will never admit the kill lag exists, yet it can clearly be seen in every Youtube video. I had a thread about this when the game released and you wont believe the amount of hostile KZ2 fanboys that said it was my internet. I would love to meet them and make them admit the problem exists. How do you not see the guy fly back 1/2 after you blast him with a shotty? This topic really made my blood boil when the game was released. I was never able to successfully convince or make these fanboys admit this problem existed. And I KNOW its not on my end. Ive tested it at multiple homes on mulitple consoles.

It's definitely there but imo it's not gamebreaking. I'd understand if it pissed somebody else off, though. However KZ2 is currently my favourite MPFPS from this gen but that might change when I get BFBC2.

You should get BC2 ASAP because its precious time youre wasting. And the kill lag is definitely game breaking. It results in so many double kills and deaths after turning a corner.

I always figured the issue had more to do with the DS3 simply being a poor controller for shooters than anything else. Not enough resistance in the analog sticks and too big of a dead zone.

they were designed to be heavy, but it's piss poor design. Basically the movement has no inertia so it's basically delay since it doesn't follow the basic rules of physics.

KZ2 has the absolute best use of 6 axis though. It made sniping very very awesome. That's pretty much the only thing that stood out in the game for me.

the problem i had with it it wasn't just heavy, they forced a type of delay on the accelleration while turning, i think if they captured momentum of running it would have been nice which they did, but it gets ruined when that momentum is still there when you standing still, they should have made that acceleration when turning dynmaic based off of how fast you were going the sprinting is obviously affected, the running would be ok with the controls they have, but if you were sitting still you should be able to pull off much more snappier movements.

I've only played the demo, will probably get the full game sometime, but I liked the feeling of the guns. Very realistic and extremely satisfying to shoot. It's a it delayed as well as just feeling like a real heavy gun, but in real life it's not like the bullet is telepathic and reads your mind when you touch the trigger, begins to shoot, then hits the person when you fully pull the trigger, there is a slight delay in real life.

Controls are great, also I like the way camera moves - you really feel like a soldier, not some flying weapon.

Neither. I found the controls to feel very light, floaty, and inadequatefor what the game was trying to achieve.

The resistance is subjective but the dead zones have been proven to be smaller than those on the 360 controller.

It feels more heavy to me, but I have noticed at times there tends to be a slight delay, particularly when there is a lot going occurring on-screen. For the most part though (98% of the time) it handles perfectly fine for me.

theres no lag or deley i have no idea what people talk about when they say that, it just feels like the sensitivity is turned way way down and the movement is slow. the agme needs M&KB support with the ability to change the sensitivity

i recall when Killzone 2 came out there was an actual input delay that was something like 2x normal delay or even 4x the delay of games like Resistance 2 or Call of Duty 4

enough to make it noticeable while just playing, if not frustrating

if you play the game now, patched, it's not as bad as they tweaked the controls... on release tho, the game was almost unplayable at times, especially online where everybody hogged the shotgun because it was the only thing you could get kills with early on

personally i don't really see what the point of the whole "heavy weapon" aesthetic was, what happened to games being made to suit gameplay? and not some pseudo immersion that just frustrates players

Its actually not realistic. I have handled plenty of guns and any assault rifle or shotgun can be moved as fast as your turn your body or move your arms. Anything heavy would have more inertia but there wouldn't be any delay in movement.

Killzone 2 uses heavy postprocessing and particle effects, much of it done by the cell cpu. This of course requires multiple pre-fetching of frames so that the shader effects can be applied in time, before they are drawn by the gpu. This introduces input lag. They get around this by simply stating that they wanted the weapons to feel heavy. This is of course not true, multiple frames are just being pre-rendered by the cell SPE's and the gpu finishes them off.

Positives of this technique:

-More complex and copious shader effects

-Little to no screen tearing

Negatives:

-Input lag, sometimes severe.
