For some odd reason, Killzone 2 really reminds me of the game Black that was on xbox/ps2 last gen. It had really good looking effects and graphics, was hyped a fair bit but it seemed pretty generic.
I was a great game but it wasn't close to amazing. That's what i'm finding KZ2 to be, a great generic/corridor shooter that's well polished but nothing special.
Anyone else agree?Faber_Fighter
That's actually a pretty good assessment IMO. I played it so long ago that I had to go back and look at footage, but it does remind me a lot of Black. I'm sure KZ2 will have a better variety of weapons and of course multiplayer but I don't see anything wrong with that comparison.
KZ2 will own in 09. I can't wait
On topic:
It somewhat does remind me of BLACK, but BLACK was coming out on last gen consoles when the 360 was out, so BLACK looked amazing for a ps2/xbox game, but we wasn't wowed by it because we was already tasting next gen. KZ2, on the other hand, had a tech demo in 05, in which sony lied about it being gameplay, and since sony lied about it being gameplay, they had to meet that target render or get extremely close. While they really didn't meet it or get extremely close, i think that they got very very close and that's what got analyst, journalist, and previewers all in a rage about this game visuals
I used to enjoy that game :Pglenn2709

WE ARE MIND TWINS!!!! (for real) Anyway, YEAH! It looks a lot like black ... overuse of motion blur, very grey, great weapon models and animations, etc. But seriously get the f out my mind dude.

Black was dam impressive....for a PS2 title (the version i played). Gameplay was addictive and fun, thanks to being able to blow so much **** up, wish games like Halo had that destructibility.
BTW, i don't really see much of Black in Killzone 2...and Killzone 2 plays much better, IMO.
Black was a good. It was a popcorn shooter if ever there was one.
However, it does not at all resemble Killzone 2.

Black's preview process was different than KZ2's. There was not a multiplayer beta that lasted for months (no MP at all :?) and most previews weren't based on half of the SP campaign but rather vertical splice demos.
Also, KZ2 has proven to be much more than a "generic corridor shooter". There is MUCH more to the game than what Black offered.

Good! Black was the most underrated shooter last gen.WasdieI never played Black, but I always looked impressive to me. Though Black is not what KZ2 is!
WOOAH now that you mention it they DO look the same...and who else here thinks that Black was a really cool game? Sure it was some kind of technical demo (because of its short campaign and no multiplayer), but otherwise, it featured some groundbreaking stuff like a LOT of destructible environments, and really cool graphics and effects.
But maybe its a bad thing that a PS2/Xbox game looks like an upcoming PS3 game.

Oh so you've played the beta? I suppose Killzone 2 isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Black was a great FPS though didnt have much replay value as opposed to KZ2 with its mp modes.... i also agree these 2 games resemble in some ways to each other....
However we'll have to wait till Feb 09 to see if they are really similar, but i think once we play KZ2 we'll just realise how amazing & superior to other FPS games out on consoles it really is...
Hey. I love KZ2 and all, but you waaaaaaay overhype this game. What's not generic about it? Its graphics. Same with Black.Black's preview process was different than KZ2's. NO! JUST NO !dont even go there, killzone 2 will be far from a "generic" shooterENDOT12123Umm... well... maybe :?
Can we please get a definition of what "generic" is in when speaking of FPS games. It should be a forum rule that if you chose to use the word generic in SW you have to write a definition as a foot note.II_Seraphim_IIGood point. I would class KZ2 as fairly generic. Heck I firmly believe Halo 3 is a genric shooter and yet I love the game. You can be generic and still be very good. Not every game has to re-write the rule book on gameplay etc.
