For some odd reason, Killzone 2 really reminds me of the game Black that was on xbox/ps2 last gen. It had really good looking effects and graphics, was hyped a fair bit but it seemed pretty generic.

I was a great game but it wasn't close to amazing. That's what i'm finding KZ2 to be, a great generic/corridor shooter that's well polished but nothing special.

Anyone else agree?

That's actually a pretty good assessment IMO. I played it so long ago that I had to go back and look at footage, but it does remind me a lot of Black. I'm sure KZ2 will have a better variety of weapons and of course multiplayer but I don't see anything wrong with that comparison.

KZ2 will own in 09. I can't wait

On topic:

It somewhat does remind me of BLACK, but BLACK was coming out on last gen consoles when the 360 was out, so BLACK looked amazing for a ps2/xbox game, but we wasn't wowed by it because we was already tasting next gen. KZ2, on the other hand, had a tech demo in 05, in which sony lied about it being gameplay, and since sony lied about it being gameplay, they had to meet that target render or get extremely close. While they really didn't meet it or get extremely close, i think that they got very very close and that's what got analyst, journalist, and previewers all in a rage about this game visuals

Black was dam impressive....for a PS2 title (the version i played). Gameplay was addictive and fun, thanks to being able to blow so much **** up, wish games like Halo had that destructibility.

BTW, i don't really see much of Black in Killzone 2...and Killzone 2 plays much better, IMO.

Black was a good. It was a popcorn shooter if ever there was one.

However, it does not at all resemble Killzone 2.

Well i mean the graphics, gunfights and style. They look alot to Black. Specially bcause of all the xplosive barrel next to groups of enemies O_o Anyway, the graphics remind me ALOT of black, but i mean ALOT. And it's not a bad thing because Black's graphics were awesome. Now imma go play black for the memories :P

WOOAH now that you mention it they DO look the same...and who else here thinks that Black was a really cool game? Sure it was some kind of technical demo (because of its short campaign and no multiplayer), but otherwise, it featured some groundbreaking stuff like a LOT of destructible environments, and really cool graphics and effects.

But maybe its a bad thing that a PS2/Xbox game looks like an upcoming PS3 game.

CT-Link, I loved Black. The enemy AI was bland, but other than that it was a great shooter with tons of amazing enviroments. If the AI was at F.E.A.R.s level, the game would have gotten 9s across the board.

It's not really that it looks the same, but just the feel of it being kinda the same. I wouldn't find it a bad thing even if it was anyways, Black was a great game that just needed to have more time put into it to make it longer imo.

I just pulled out Black again today since I never got further than the second mission I think but never actually had a problem with it, just other games to play. Man, that game is pretty much a sure-fire reason to buy a surround sound system...you can feel every shot.

I see the connection between KZ2 and Black. Only difference IMO is that Killzone 2 doesn't seem to have the same punch in its weapons that Black has. Graphics sure are pretty though :D I'll probably end up picking it up just for a nice showcase for the PS3, even if the gameplay turns out to be a pretty straightforward shooter.

Black was a great FPS though didnt have much replay value as opposed to KZ2 with its mp modes.... i also agree these 2 games resemble in some ways to each other....

However we'll have to wait till Feb 09 to see if they are really similar, but i think once we play KZ2 we'll just realise how amazing & superior to other FPS games out on consoles it really is...

I'm pretty sure people were excited about Black, because the devs pretty much admitted it was a by-the-numbers, cliche shooter, but that was the point of the game. KZ 2 is a generic, by-the-numbers game, but the devs are hyping it as being original or something. That's the difference.

The look of the game is probably the most generic thing about it! Ooh, dark and gritty warzone...oh yeah, that's so original.

Eh ... maybe, but it does it to a level thats not often seen. Black and KZ2 are very similar in looks.

Can we please get a definition of what "generic" is in when speaking of FPS games. It should be a forum rule that if you chose to use the word generic in SW you have to write a definition as a foot note.

Good point. I would class KZ2 as fairly generic. Heck I firmly believe Halo 3 is a genric shooter and yet I love the game. You can be generic and still be very good. Not every game has to re-write the rule book on gameplay etc.
