I've said it before and I will say it again, MLAA is God on jaggies but it presents a new set of annoyance; Flickering/shimmering. Since KZ3 uses the same MLAA technique used in GOW3, it presents the same flickering mess, see Gow3 flickering issue below link.......In my eyes, flickering is just as annoying as jaggies. LBP2 also suffer

As much as I hate defending Killzone: IT's freaking Alpha Code. It's normal to have problems like that arise. They will probably fix it for release. (Let's hope or else fanboys will have a field day.)

The problem is the AA technique itself. I doubt anything will change.

Hmmm. I thought the shimmering along the edges were jaggies too.

Let's ignore the fact that the rest of the game looks amazing. Nope, the one table while played during Alpha code renders the WHOLE game horrible looking

No it will not be fixed, seeing that Santa Monica couldn't hide the artefacts even in the Final Gow3 game.

Sony needs to come up with a filter already

No it's not only one table, it's almost every straight edge in the game, especially near light sources.

It's a pretty inconsistent game from a visual standpoint. Some areas look great while others look pretty damn bad.

Optimism ftw. Doesn't change the fact every game using MLAA suffers from this issue.

What's the use of crystal clear, jaggie-free textures if the flickering is tearing my eyes apart

So they can promote a game with no jaggies and have fanboys happy!

As much as I hate defending Killzone: IT's freaking Alpha Code. It's normal to have problems like that arise. They will probably fix it for release. (Let's hope or else fanboys will have a field day.)wizardwd

no, this is just one of the disadvantages of MLAA as a whole.

it's an AA method that's similar to not having any AA at all (in terms of how much it consumes in system resources)

the flickering effects are also present when you use it for a PC game. the Radeon 6XXX series is capable of MLAA. and in a few benchmarks by Tomshardware it was noted that MLAA's effect on system resources, was in fact, identical to having no AA solution at all.

but the major disadvantage was the shimmering effect. and some undesirable effects on text.

it also puts undesirable effects on text, but I'm sure that's something that can be altered by the final product.

By fixing it I didn't mean recode the AA setting, but like try to find a workaround to make it less visible or less present.

Wow, lemmings really hate KZ3. It's worse than it was with Reach!

Then again, KZ2 was targeted heavily as well.

ALPHA code.... The word ALPHA... Alpha testing is simulated or actual operational testing by potential users/customers or an independent test team at the developers' site. Alpha testing is often employed for off-the-shelf software as a form of internal acceptance testing, before the software goes to beta testing.

It's not even beta footage... Get over it, another keyword "TESTING"... Ever heard of it? It means where you check something out to make sure there aren't any problems, it also allows time to fix discovered problems... People treating alpha and beta code like they did something to deserve the freebies really must educate themselves.

You do realise there is a purpose to Beta testing? Not just Sony handing out candy to little kids... It's a step of the development process and kinda silly when people treat it like Sony is giving out free candy to all the good little boys and girls, they aren't....

Well of course it has artifacts its common with MLAA, you have to design a game around it almost to have little to no artifacting from it. Its because the AA is applied after the screen is rendered.

Thats strange, I thought that 'flickering' in that GoW3 video was the light?

Anyway, GoW3 looks brilliant at 720p via HDMI on my LCD 24' 1080p monitor and had no 'flickering' that I seen.

Maybe your TV sucks and your still using composite video....

you people complain about the stupidest things, come on, KZ3 is never going to get a break. Its all was going to be put under the microscope for every little thing. Then when they cant find anything bad about it, they come with the same old "well its not unique or original...." GOD!!!!

Is it really that big of a deal? Given that we are talking consoles here, some jaggies are to be expected. They are a mainstream gaming solution, not an enthusiast one.

They could have used proper AA, but that is performance intensive; and would have retracted from other areas. So they used a compromise, a cheaper form of AA. That is what console graphics are about, finding the cheapest way of achieving the desired result. If you want brute forced quality; then you have to pay for it.

Flickering and lines crawling across edges is one of the main downsides of having no AA. So this is MLAA... And people say it's equivalent to 4X AA, epic fail.

That video of GoWIII looked great even in 360p. I still have no complaints.
