Kojima Apologizes; Says 'No Greater Crime' than a Delay

Hideo Kojima is taking the delay (in Japan) of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walkervery seriously, and has posted a personal mea culpa asking for fans' forgiveness and their continued trust.

"I always preach to the staff, 'You must not have a delay after a release date has been announced. There is no greater crime as a game developer.'" Kojima wrote (this according to a translation by andriasang).

"Official announcement of a release date is nothing less than a promise to fans and business partners. In other words, a release date change is like betraying the expectations of everyone," Kojima added, according to the translation.

The game originally was slotted for a March 18 drop; it's now been pushed to April 29. The North American (May 25) and European (May 28) release dates are not affected.

Andriasang reports that Kojima's apology has been met with wide forgiveness, in the form of numerous blog comments pledging support.

Nintendo probably think it was worth the year wait just for the Wii motion controls and that they have nothing to apologise for :P.

I honestly feel developers should not announce a release date unless they're positively sure the game will go gold by that time, but things do happen, of course. Kojima seems like an honest guy.

Meh, delays don't really bother me (unless it's like DNF and isn't released still 10 years after it's announced:evil:) because if it is delayed that means that there is less of a chance for it to be a bad game. (Not that this would ever be a bad game :P)

All delays happening near enough a week away from launch. Fair play it did deliver in the end (IMO).

But i agree with the guy who said hes not forgiven unless Zone of the Enders 3 packaged with a slap for all those that didnt buy 2nd runner.

THIS!!! Please this. I do not like MGS, but ZoE is epic awesome.

BTW, I usually find a single delay to be a good thing... it means they care about quality and won't rush a game with any technical issues. Imagine if Obsidan hadn't rushed KOTOR 2 out the door... would there be any doubt that KOTOR 2 was better than KOTOR 1?
