This bit of news will probably send the people who actually thought that 9 GB DVD's were enough for this generation of gaming into a frenzy, but as crazy as it sounds, Hideo Kojima recently said that "Blu-Ray is too small for Metal Gear Solid 4."
The current spec of Blu-Ray is only 25 GB, and he wants the newer spec 50 GB Blu-Ray for MGS4. (Not a Dual Layer 25 GB Blu-Ray, but the single layer 50 GB Blu-Ray)

While Hideo Kojima doesn't necesarily care much about HD, he says there's a lot you can do with sound that would fill up a Blu-Ray disc really quickly. On top of everything else in the game this apparently makes the game go way past the 25 GB limit. And Kojima said that he wants to use the new higher spec 50 GB Blu-Ray for MGS4.

Well I guess that confirms it. MGS4 for Xbox 360, an 18 disc box set! lol
On a serious note though, it looks like MGS4 on X360 won't even be possible.

This was reported on a podcast for 1 up yesterday. You can search for it on iTunes. It's called "1 up yours" but it's an hour long. I recorded that part of the pod cast though if anyone wants to listen.

Yeah its a bit old,but it looks like alot of lemmings haven't seen this news and still make topics about how MGS4 is going to be on the 360.

So your point would be MGS4 for the X360 if they downgraded the sound? IfI only owned an X360, I'd say downgrade the sound if it meant getting the game. I'm not sure millions of people play a game because it had great sound lol.

Sure, bluray and DVDs aren't big enough IF YOU DON'T COMPRESS YOUR CRAP. I could fill up a bluray disc easily with uncompressed audio and video.

I'm a long time AVS poster, and they're completely wrong. The "current spec" of Blu Ray is not 25 gigs, several 50 gig Blu Ray movies have already been released (The Prestige, the Departed, etc.) There is absolutely nothing preventing a manufacturer/developer/studio from using a BD50 right now.

How old is your link?!?!

ROFL! If Oblivion could be done on a DVD disk, anything this gen could be. Maybe they are just programming a bunch of junk into it (like viruses! No jk, but you get what I mean).

If Kojima knows that little about the equipment he's working with, I wouldn't trust his judgement.

BD50's have been being used for months. Movies have been released on BD50. The current spec of Blu Ray doesn't in any way prevent ANY manufacturer from using it.

I really dont know why alot of people treat Kojima as a God, I mean he made one good series, MGS and thats it! I cant believe some people choose him over, lets say Miyamoto in "best developer" polls. Its ridiculous, he did nothing special or innovative for gaming, he just made a good franchise....

I think it's all those HD cutscenes which take up most of the space; just a guess. Wait, I am positive actually.

I wish people would stop bringing up Oblivion. A lot of the countryside environment was specially generated using spawning technology. They set the boundaries, the wireframes, the textures, the key locations of objets, but then used stuff like SpeedTree and random detail placement (rocks, plants, etc.) to fill it all in -- that's why it was difficult for Gamespot to do the PC vs. 360 comparison a while back. There are a lot of dynamic space saving techniques used to help make it fit on one DVD.

The funniest thing about the TC is him believing there is a single layer 50GB BD. If that were the case, that would mean changing the way the laser is positioned, what I mean by this is that, this would cause the laser to be even closer than where it already is. And doing so would actually cause more problems, also meaning that all current hardware would be unusable with this new single layer BD. Which doesn't exist. So no there is no single layer BD. But having MGS on a dual layer BD would be awesome.

Don't be so ignorant. He made Snatcher and Policenauts, both of which are considered some of the best adventure games to date (although the latter was never released outside of Japan). He also created Zone of the Enders and the Game Boy Advance series Boktai (Lunar Knights on the DS is a sequel).

Who gives a damn if you have to swap disc. Also the 360 is easier to program for than the PS3. Just because someone uses 20gb of space for a PS3 game doesn't mean it will be the same for the 360. a 20gb game for the PS3 can take around 9gb on the 360. You people need to take a programming class or two. The theory of MGS4 on the 360 taking more than 2-3 disc is farfetched and nothing more than infantile fanboyish baby dribble

I guess if you're talking about uncompressed audio, you could fill up a blu-ray disk pretty quickly. I don't know why anyone in their right mind would use uncompressed audio for a game though. Most people can't even tell the difference between a high bitrate MP3 and a 24-bit FLAC file.

Instead of making a thousand threads of "Oh, BluRay is too small for the MGS4!!!111 Xflop 360 is never going to get it now!!!11" and then the immediate response of "Just compress it!!!111" and repeating variations on this theme over and over again, how about we wait until E3 and TGS to see, alright? E3 i tommorow, just chill out until then.

I love MGS, love Kojima. but i think hes personally building hype. I mean WTF!! i cant fit sound on one bluray disc. Im sure MGS 4 is gonna be the biggest movied up game every. Im still buying my PS3 for MGS 4. But that stuff is just him hyping it way to much.
