Kojima Tells Nomura to Remake Final Fantasy VII

Kojima TellsNomurato Remake Final Fantasy VII

Twitter explodes asSquare Enix and Konami VIPs get together for dinner.

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, Square Enix producer/artist Tetsuya Nomura, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada and Metal Gear art director Yoji Shinkawa had dinner earlier today.

What did they talk about?

According to Kojima, they talked about a Final Fantasy VII remake! After Kojima Tweeted that he was in a dinner meeting with the three, a follower asked that he tell Nomura to remake FFVII. "I passed it along," replied Kojima.

He was probably joking. Or was he?

Other things Kojima said he passed along are "Hurry up and release Kingdom Hearts 3D," "I know it's tough for Square Enix, but you can do it!" and "Tell Wada I'm waiting for Seiken Densetsu/Secret of Mana 5." Kojima did not pass along the message "I'm looking forward to the new Zelda game" that someone for some reason asked him to mention.

Kojima passed along one message without his followers' suggestion: he told Tetsuya Nomura to get a Twitter account.

While the actual topics of conversation during the meeting are probably secret (they may have just been having a friendly dinner -- it happens sometimes), we do know what was on the menu. According to Yoichi Wada's Twitter, two people had cola while two people had alcohol.

This is what Kojima ate. I don't know what it is either.

I told him too, but he didn't listen to me.

It will come when SE is on the verge of bankruptcy.

Nomura shouldn't touch any of the Sakaguchi FF games.

Its going to happen sooner or later, Kojima should remember what company he was talking to -__-

But in all honesty, I want Kojima to remake FFVII :)

I'd say that if such a thing was to happen, it should totally get a PC version with DX11 support. Then we'd be able to see in-engine graphics that would be the closest thing to Advent Children rendered in real-time.

Does the gameplay still hold up after all these years? I tried to play the game ages ago but couldn't get into it. Moo-Moo-Milk

It does and it doesn't. I remember playing the game around the time it first released and loving it but since I bought it on PSN I can't bring myself to finish, it's painfully slow and boring at times plus the random encounters get super annoying after the 100th time. The blocky graphics have not aged well and the text boxes are are all over the place. The music/ST is as good as ever though.

To be honest, that is a reason why I'm more of a Tales fan.

Honestly I think so too... I am playing through it for the first time right now and I think it's fantastic. The graphics aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be either... Sure the character models are weird some of the time, but they look great during the battle sequences.

Its not the best game ever or anything, but I really really enjoy it. Its pacing is amazing, there is tons of variety, the story is good, the battle system is good, and the music is incredible. I really don't get what is so dated other than the graphics which I still think are fine.

I bet Nomura felt pretty inadequate hanging around a real artist like Shinkwawa and a real director like Kojima.

Remake the original with todays graphics, yes. Remake it but change the story, **** NO

Kojima should just take up the project himself. Then it might actually be a good game. :P

There's been a couple of those already: Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, Advent Children, Before Crisis, etc. I found them terrible though.

it is smart to do, they would make a lot of money. then again they would probably redo the combat system and put in some garbage with the materia system

Graphics wise perhaps. Everything else about it is fine. If all the FFVII remake would be improving is visuals than we don't need that. Square-Enix has enough projects as it is now...

Yeah, I didn't enjoy Crisis Core either. I found the combat on the easy side; it was mostly getting behind an enemy and pressing X. I heard it's a whole lot tougher on hard, but I don't have time to go through it again. Alongside that, I didn't like the DMW reel (especially when it occured every three seconds during a boss fight), the dialogue and how battles were triggered. The only things I liked about Crisis Core were the soundtrack and the ending.
