This is a DIRECT sequel to Contra 3, meaning that this will be the first real Contra game in over a decade. Better yet, this is yet another big series headed to the Nintendo DS! Thoughts?

Contra!!!
Edit:
Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!
Contra 4 (just a working title, folks) is being developed by California's WayForward Technologies (they brought you ****cs such as Ping Pals and SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab)
Another once upon a time Konami flagship franchise relegated to handheld status. Castlevania's already in, what's next? Gradius?
And Shattered Soldier was the direct sequel to Contra III actually, and an excellent Contra game. And you're also forgetting Hard Corps, which was superior to Contra III.
I want frickin Double Dragon to make a return to gaming. But this is a joyous day indeed.
Hope that Golden Axe doesn't suck on the 360 and PS3 though, maybe old school beatemups and shooters will make a come back.
I don't need to play Contra 1 graphics and dated gameplay all over again. SKIP!NobuoMusicMaker
Honestly some franchises just don't work in 3D. Thats why Sonic Rush outscores all the recent 3D sonics. Contra is one of them as well.
As long as my MGS stays in 3D I'm happy.

Ewwww... MGS in 2d? That would suck.
Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!Yeah, but they're also responsible for the enjoyable Sigma Star Saga and the excellent Shantae. Give them a chance.Contra 4 (just a working title, folks) is being developed by California's WayForward Technologies (they brought you ****cs such as Ping Pals and SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab) thriteenthmonke

That's a whole load of crap. Any franchise can evolve and work in 3D with the right idea and proper talent and effort put into it. Sonic Adventure got high ratings all over the place when it released, that the lastest Sonic games have been lackluster isn't the franchise fault, it's the developers fault. Same with Contra, Castlevania etc.The last 3D Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, could have been really great if the devs had actually put some effort in the series trademark killer visual style, but instead every corridor and hallway ended up looking the same. I guess the devs realised that in a 3D game you can't rehash sprites from 1993 over and over and get away with it.
3D is totally another game, and most devs just want to play it safe and hug to the tired and true gameplay and style that made their games great. And while that's a totally ok thing to do, because the games are great in 2D, it's only but a excuse to say the games can't work in 3D because it's clearly just the lack of view of the developers.
