Konami PC Sales on the Rise; Greater Than Xbox One

Most sales came from MGSV. Hopwefully Konami brings in more games to steam.

PC gamers rejoice! Your platform is taking up a larger portion of Konami’s monetary pie, as seen by their latest financial results. Last year, the PC accounted for a mere 2% of total units sold. Yawn, right? Well, wake up because the market has started to shift. Now the platform has seen a hefty 8% boost, as noted by Overclock3D, pushing it past the Xbox One. That being said, it still sits behind the Xbox 360. Sony’s systems, the PS3 and PS4, currently lead the pack.

If at this point you’re left wondering why PC making up 10% of Konami’s game sales is worthy of rejoice, then you’ve overlooked a major win for this community. The noticeable bump in revenue stream for PC gamers is sure to grab the attention of the higher-ups at Konami. Late last year we saw Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes grace Steam. Besides being the first entry in the series to expand beyond consoles in over a decade, it was an exceptionally ported and well-optimized title. And its sales reflect that, according to the company.

With Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain headed to PC alongside two generations of consoles, it is surely a sign of things to come. The PC is likely to continue to prove its relevance in Konami’s market. It wouldn’t be too far-fetched to believe that we’ll be hearing about Silent Hills making the same jump in the very near future.

The report shows that almost 50% of Konami total sales are of soccer games. It would be nice to see a breakdown of sales per platform of just Metal Gear.

Good news that means we can expect a very good PC port for MGSV.

Article also states that PC profit of Konami is head to head with with Xbox 360, almost 10 year console.

If they make head to head profits good for them though, more good PC ports is a good thing

Well, Metal Gear began as a PC (MSX) series, so it only makes sense that it makes a home for itself again on PC.

MGS V PC ports is great. Komani says: "PC sale are solid"

Valkyria Chronicles PC port is great. SEGA says: "PC sales blow our expectations out of the water"

Ubisoft PC ports are shit. Ubisoft says: "PC sales are down because pc gamers are pirating our games."

PC? That thing died 3 gens ago. There was no funeral because no on cared.

Well, I've been buying all their games on PC so the platform would receive more interest from Konami.

Loved MGS V and Castlevania. Still have to play Revengeance too :P

You know PC. It's the platform that plays 99% of PS4 and Xbox One games, only with better graphics and at 1080p or higher.

And still that miserable excuse for a company cannot code for life, cannot muster anything beyond 720p on Xbone and doesn't even intend to.

PC has always been the best, consoles just cant compete with the likes of dota, league, Wow, starcraft, etc etc, way too many unique games

No surprise, Xbone owners don't buy games. They order pizza on it then whine about the PS4 on the Internet.

Well, if we're talking solely about MGS5, the requirements of that game would rule out any comptuer older than like 2009 or 11. That makes it a bit more comparable to current gen consoles.

-Mobas whether you like them or not are a unique game genre.

-RTS are on a platform uniquely suited for it.

-WoW is one of the longer running/highest grossing MMOs, I think that would qualify as unique.

@arunsunk: And those genres have thrived on PC for over a decade. It brings nothing new to the industry. If you enjoy those titles chances are you are already a pc gamer. If you do not enjoy those genres you are most likely a console gamer.

yeah thats cuz metal gear solid 1-3 were mainly exclusive on playstation so many xbox owners never knew the first 3 games and don't wanna jump into metal gear rising cuz they dunno what it is

if it was called like Halo Rising or something im sure people woulda been better selling on xbone then ps4

Actually, it's just Steam, so it's around 100M users, 360 + XO is probably around that number as well, and some of the games for PC were late ports, so yeah, it's good.

Considering console publisher Konami released games like MGS V on the PC months later and sport games never selling that well on PC that's good.
