http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/12/18/konami-seeks-developers-for-new-metal-gear?utm_source=IGN%20hub%20page&utm_medium=IGN%20(front%20page)&utm_content=1&utm_campaign=Blogroll&abthid=567369d6dfe431de6b000025

On the career page of its Japanese website, Konami Group has announced it is actively seeking professionals to help develop a new Metal Gear.

Not just a new Metal Gear, but "New Metal Gear," as the project is referred toin the listing. The company is now recruiting for a "wide range of highly-skilled development professionals" for New Metal Gear.

In September, Konami expressed confidence that the Metal Gear Solid franchise could continue without Kojima, citing the successful partnership with Platinum Games on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance as an example. Reports at the beginning of November pointed to Konami already planning the next Metal Gear game.

Both Konami's Tokyo and Los Angeles studios are listed on the job page, which calls for professional resumes and portfolios from candidates with a "strong passion toward game creation." The inclusion of the LA office is unusual, as Konami confirmed it would be shuttering its California-based studio.

This comes in the wake of former Konami employee and Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima's announcement that his team will be working on an unannounced product with Sony. Kojima's new PlayStation game will be "slightly more edgy" than the Metal Gear games for which he is famous, but there are precious few other details to talk about at the moment.

-----------------------

Your thoughts, SW? Excited?

I would be curious to see how they vision the series going forward.

Going to be the same shit it was when kojima was their.....pedantic self absorbed non sense, will otacon come back and talk about his ancient ancestor who had premarital sex with his cousin's brothers roommate, who just happened to be saying big bosses ancestor and upon finding out about the infidelity threw themselves into war and this is why the descendents are soldiers?

Metal Gear without Kojima won't be the same. It'll be like EA looking at popularity of Star Citizen, and bringing back Wing Commander without Chris Roberts, only to produce another half assed title like Battlefront. Kojima IS Metal Gear.

RIP Metal Gear.

Not even sure how I feel about it tbh. I loved Snake's Revenge on NES which he had no part in. I hated MGS3 which a lot of people tell me is his best game ever.

Just have to wait and see how the franchise moves forward quality wise. Can't say I'm either optimistic or pessimistic. Might not be so bad them going in a new direction. They need to move on from Solid Snake and Big Boss.

Hopefully any self respecting artist's and programmer's in japan will ignore this jobpost. Hopefully other Japanese studios keep these people hired and let Konimai wither away.

Konami just needs to wither away into the sunset. They are done, even if they hire people to make a new Metal Gear, their main fanbase is gone. They will be Following Kojima and Sony from here on out.

Platinum is too busy, and they just picked up a new deal to make the next TMNT game. I personally want them to focus on making a great TMNT game rather than a second rate MGS game. MGS is done, Kojima has left the building. Platinum is great for high action games, not slow stealth games. Platinum hopefully will deliver on it's many projects and I hope it's TMNT is the best TMNT game to be released!! I really hope Kojima and Del Tora revive P.T. (can't be called that, but they can make a different game behind it).

if they sign a solid contract with Platinum they'll pump out 3 blockbusters before Kojima's new Sony game sees the light of day

Metal Gear Solid on Game Boy Color was pretty good, and I don't think Kojima made that one. Same with Peace Walker, so it's possible for Metal Gear to be good without him. If anything, the plot will probably start to make more sense.

On a semi-related note, I'm kinda hoping Nintendo gets Kojima and Del Toro to make a new Eternal Darkness. What? A man can dream, can't he?

I know it's sacrilege, but I'm not of the opinion that a good Metal Gear can't be made without Kojima. It sure as **** won't be the same, but that doesn't mean it has to be bad.

All I would hope is that the new director doesn't try to imitate Kojima, because that shit just won't work. Kojima is his own brand of strange and only he can pull it off.

They would also need to ditch the established universe. Even if Kojima was still there, I'd be saying the same thing. There is no more room for filling in the blanks, that timeline is spent. A fresh start is necessary.

Kojima crazyness and story bullshit aside though, good games can still be made in the franchise. MGS and stealth gaming in general still have infinite room for improvement. I know it's popular to bag on MGSV right now, but the truth of the matter is, that game plays way the **** better all the previous games in the series and all other stealth games in general. It took the genre to new heights. For the first time ever, it's an MGS game that not only makes the previous MGS titles feel unplayable, but even trying to get back into my favorite Splinter Cell and Thief games feels like a mundane chore. MGSV set a new bar for stealth gaming, yet it still has tons of room to improve and expand.

Maybe... just maybe, this new team at Konami can pull it off. It might have some generic ass uninteresting Splinter Cell story, but if it can continue to evolve on the core play of MGSV then I'm down.

Of course, it's Konami. They seem to give no fucks about doing anything right these days. So I'm not expecting anything good. I'm just not opposed to giving it a fair chance. Kojima is a huge talent, his creativity isn't something you can just produce on spot. Creating a great stealth game though? Kojima isn't a requirement.

I'm pretty sure Kojima didn't make MG himself. And it's not like it was especially non-shit before.. They could probably pull something off with the series without Kojima.

Did you guys really want Kojima continuing with MG forever? I'm personally glad that he's working on other stuff now.

Same here man.

I do want to see Metal Gear continue. Stealth is one of my favorite genres. Sequels don't bother me in this genre because there is just so much damn room for improvement. Still feels like this genre is in its infancy. And besides that, there just aren't that many stealth games. So I absolutely want to see more Metal Gear.

But I'd also rather see Kojima doing his own thing. The guy is too damn creative to be locked behind one franchise for the rest of his life.

Honestly, I think this is a great scenario we're in. Kojima gets to move on and do some new shit, while Konami takes a chance at building upon the franchise.

Really, I can't complain.

Kojima and his team are exceptionally talented. This is like Nintendo looking for another EAD to create Mario. They will not be easy to replace.....Konami doesn't understand what it's lost.

Seems the Pachinko game isn't popular enough.

The feeling of the game being a carbon copy of MGS5 is strong in me.
