I think this would be awesome. Remake MGS1 by today's standards and set the standard once again in the video game industry. :D

Konami wants to "re-imagine" MGS in HD

Kojima Productions wants to remake the first Metal Gear Solid title in full HD, so says the studio's creative producer Yoshikazu Matsuhana.

Speaking with Eurogamer at E3 in Los Angeles this week, Matsuhana explained that the studio had decided against including the 1998 PSone ****c in the forthcoming Metal Gear Solid HD Collection as both its gameplay and visuals are just too dated.

"Obviously, we wanted to include it and make it a complete collection. However, as you know, Metal Gear Solid 1 was for the PSone. It has a very, very low polygon count," he explained.

"While at the time the game was something new and refreshing, just bringing it as is into HD probably wouldn't have that much meaning to us. We're doing two and three with a certain work flow where the goal is to take that game, preserve it and introduce it to a new generation. We can't really take that approach with Metal Gear Solid 1 because it's very dated at this point."

However, Matsuhana then added that the studio hopes to return to the game at some point and give it some special attention above and beyond a new HD lick of paint.

"If we were going to do Metal Gear Solid 1 we'd want to take more time with it. Not just up-res the textures, not just make things look pretty and polished, but go back and tweak some of the gameplay, tweak the story to update things and do it properly. Not just a re-master but a re-imagining almost.

"We do want to do that sometime down the road but it will take more time. It's not something we're looking at doing right now."

If it does materialise it wouldn't be the first time the PSone original had been remade. Too Human developer Silicon Knights remade it as Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for the GameCube back in 2004.

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which incorporates buffed-up versions of Metal Gear Solid 2, 3 and Peace Walker, is due on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year.

As detailed earlier this week,Kojima Productions is also looking into bringing its stealth series to Wii U.

God no, that game is so clunky by today standards. Just remake MGS3 in a good way and be done with it. We don't need 1 or 2.

As long as Kojima's behind it, I would dig it.

I have MGS and MGS:Twin Snakes, but Twin Snakes had a lot of issues (from cinema action, to voiceacting to gameplay from MGS2 making it too easy) that Kojima would have rectified had he directed the GC version himself, or at the very least had been made by his team. TS was made by Western Devs, SK of Too Human fame, for those that don't know. The action scenes were redone by famed 'Versus' director (Ryûhei Kitamura), which is why the action was Matrix-y and not grounded in the MGS universe.

The other problem with TS was the action was way too over the top, so I would back this if Kojima got behind the helm, or at the very least, had more input, and had a full fledged Konami - Kojima MGS team behind it.

Because Nintendo and Silicon Knights were behind Twin Snakes. Even though Konami was also, there'd still be fees and legalities I'm sure.

And those issues were mostly ignorable.

I don't agree with that at all, but to each their own.

It was way too easy as aspects of MGS2 gameplay were forcibly inserted into MGS1, making certain bossfights a complete joke. The cinema action involved some sort of "Super NEO Snake" who was capable of acrobatic feats that put Dante, Nightcrawler, Trinity, and Ringling Bros / PT Barnum & Bailey to shame. Some of the voiceacting was an issue as well. If I played through it again like I did when I first bought it, I could tell you even more, but long story short, VAST legions of MGS fans have issue with the game, but I know there are others that liked it.

Snake jumping off missiles doesn't flow, especially when you then insert a Kojima Directed MGS2, MGS3, and MGS4. Again, though, everyone is different so if you thing those issues were mostly ignorable, good on you.

Oh that would be awesome. I can see it now. MGS1 with 26 hours of full HD cutscenes and 12 minutes of innovative and revolutionary gameplay (that 12 minutes of gameplay is also including the codec conversations of course)

I bet it would get a perfect 10 and would be heralded by MGS fans as the true next step in stealth gameplay. The story could be about nanomachines, clones, more clones, some more nanomachines and a naked dude doing cartwheels.

Dang... now that I think about it... MGS games really aren't all that great.

Just a graphical upgrade with VR Missions extra content and I'll buy a PS3 for it. Unless its multiplat... Also, no changes to the story or voices. And I lol'd at those who think Kojima did Twin Snakes.

Speak for yourself. I am still enjoying the hell out of MGS1. MGS3 is awesome, but it doesn't need the update near as bad. I'd love to have a new MGS1. Really, though, if they would have taken those pictures up top an blown them up to fit an HDTV while maintaining the same level of crispness... that would have been more than enough for me. That low polygon BS is weak.

Kojima's a one-trick pony like Bungie, Infinity ward, and Ubisoft Montreal are one-trick ponies. They could probably come up with some pretty amazing s*** if it weren't for publishers pushing them to do what makes money. Are the guys who make Zelda one-trick ponies? :|

I mean, the man is old as f*** and likely dead by now. We've seen him through enough missions. We've exploited enough of his papa's past and seen where it got the both of 'em. There's really nothing left to say. No more ret-con. No more 'oh, but you didn't know 'bout this s*** right here!' scenarios. It's over. It ended beautiful. Let it stay ended, goddammit!

Seriously. Just let it go. Jesus Christ.

But that would mean letting Kojima do something else, which Konami will never allow to happen.
