Kotick Proves (Yet Again) He Hates Gamers

"Activison CEO Bobby Kotick has revealed how he turns your $50 purchase of Guitar Hero into a $500 stream of revenue for his company.

Speaking earlier, Kotick had this to say:

"Today, we'll sell you for $100 a guitar. You might add a microphone or drums, you might buy two or three expansions packs, different types of music. Over the life of your ownership you'll probably buy around 25 additional song packs in digital downloads. So, what used to be a $50 sale is a $500 sale today."

You would have thought people like Kotick would have sane PR people to ensure idiotic statements like this are never said. Sure, from a financial standpoint the above sales strategy is a goldmine and would make any investor rub their hands with glee but from a customer relations point of view, it is a fantastically stupid thing to say.

Not only does it make him sounds like a smug fool, it's also sure to annoy gamers everywhere. Most people think that a lot of DLC is over priced and peripherals are starting to reach astronomical prices (Fun Fact: You can buy a XBox 360/Wii for less then what the new Guitar Hero V bundle costs here in the UK). It's already known that Mr. Kotick would like to raise game prices even higher if he were allowed. With statements like these, somebody stop the man from speaking!

Now of course, not every person who buys Guitar Hero will purchase additional peripherals/song packs but many of them do. Will you be giving Activison and Bobby Kotick's wallet an extra $450 after you've bought Guitar Hero V?"

Well this only cements him on my list of people who need to disappear now

Simple solution. Don't buy Guitar Hero.

I dont buy Activision products at all. The only games i'll be getting that has anything to do with them will be Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2.

Activison = new EA of this gen. EA now not being at the top has actually put some real effort into there titles, and activision isjust gonna milk the same old stuff. Funny how in a couple of years things can change.

I can't say what I want to say about Kotick on this forum. With each passing day, though, my hate for this man grows deeper.

Yeah. A lot of companies do that (*cough* Unilever *cough*), but they don't admit to their public that they're making your apparent small sale scale in 10x of its original value. Because they're slightly smart.

Kotick is an idiot. What kind of CEO wants to "instill fear" in his company? To me that's just messed up. Shouldn't the companies who make video games have fun while doing it? I'd seriously like to see this guy lose his job and then some.

Sony hates gamers!!!! They want you to buy a $300 system, then buy games that they make money from and buy controllers that they make money from. Oh the humanity!!!! That's it, i'm never buying a Sony product again.

I'm also never printing anything again because HP sells printers, print cartridges and paper. Head and Shoulders sells shampoo AND conditioner? Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? They'd like it if I bought both from them??!?!?!? Whaaaaat? Betty Crocker sells cake mix, frosting for the cake AND the sprinkles??!?! You've got to be kidding me. I find it insulting that they'd like me to buy them all from one company. That's like hundreds of extra cake making dollars ove my life. Where are the ethics?

I never would have thought that people who make games want me to buy their games and buy DLC for their games. This is a real eye opener for me. I thought they were going for the total opposite. Unacceptable. Simply unacceptable. This concept of selling things to make money is preposterous. it'll never work.

The difference between this Kotick dude and other video game companies' CEOs is that he says some things out loud. Others feel the same way, but choose to keep it to themselves.

The only reason this guy hasn't been fired yet is because he makes Activision tons of money.

It's funny because Kotick says these things, but the people that buy Guitar Hero are not the same people that spend time on a gaming forum, or hyping the next sleeper hit.

So while we might dislike Kotick for the things he says there are millions of people completely oblivious to it. People that don't even know what Activision is. They just see Guitar Hero, and buy it.

Good thing I couldn't give a damn about Guitar Hero, let alone every upcoming Activision game, besides MW2 which if I do end up buying, will be bought second hand.

I strongly dislike this man, and this has further cemented my opinion on him. People like him are the people that will try to run the industry into the ground (of course it'll prevail, but still).

Guitar Hero guitars are really good but I'll buy one second hands or off of ebay before I give money to that jerk Rock Band makes a better game, better drum set, better microphone but their guitar needs fixingToriko42

Logitech builds the exact same USB microphone for both franchises for all consoles.
