Lets be honest here. As great as the PS1 and PS2 were, the one thing they really did struggle with was keeping ahold of any types of mascots or faces for the brand. Crash, Lara, all those who were originally faces for the playstation early on, seem to have moved on. Eve, with them though, IMO, the PS brand has never had it's Mario, it's Master Chief, it's Marcus Feenix, it's Zelda.
However, since Sony has shifted gears into internal development, im beginning to see a shange. Two faces keep recurring when the Playstation brand is talked about these days. Two icons that Sony seem desperate to push one way or the other. Two characters that have already proven their popularity amongst gamers (IMO at least).
Now im not saying for a second that within the next few months, everybody will know these two and associate them with the Playstation brand like Master Chief is with Xbox and Mario is with Nintendo. However, i think with the recent shifts into internal development, Sony really needs a face or two to be really recognisable. You know what i mean, the face that everyone knows, the face where people wet themselves when they see a new trailer, the face that gets 2 or 3 million pre-orders and lines down the street at midnight. I think Sony may well have the right Man and (sack)Boy for the job.
I think im bordering on rambling at this point, so i'll get right to the crux of the matter. If the playstation does indeed need recognizable faces (and franchises i guess), are these the two for the job in your opinion? Should these two and their series become the two primary flagships for the PS brand?
p.s. My apologies to those who just read this as the ramblings of a madman. I was up early and im struggling to actually form cohesive sentences, let alone articulate the above dea :P
