For some extremely strange reason, i see on these threads and endless heap of hermits basically touting Crysis as the best looking game ever, saying that it has no equal, but even though Crysis does impress the hell out of me, are you hermits blind?! KZ2 is an extremely gorgeous game, undoubtly the best looking console game ever, close behind is U2, what with KZ2's incredible texturing, gorgeous, and i mean gorgeous lighting(the best in any game), great animations, great character models, and incredible weapon models. This goes for all people when i say that KZ2 is under credited generally, and plz, leave decent arguements because crysis pics dont prove anything. You know why? Its because you can take a screen shot of any game like MW2 (which is one of theworst looking games i ever played due to nearly every single texture in the game being extremely low resolution, not detailed at all in other words), and the pics looked pretty good, so its the same with crysis, you cant prove your point with pics.

i agree KZ2 does look amazing in game! But to say it has not got praise for that isnt correct almost every review you read for KZ2 will boast about the games graphics

This line is from Gamespots own review

Killzone 2 boasts amazing visuals, an intense campaign, and extraordinary online play that will keep you coming back for more.

K2 got mad props before and when it was released, then UC2 came, and well the rest is history. For consoles that is.

hamzah1235

you cant prove anything with looks, you think KZ2 looks good, great, i think vampire rain looks better, guess what im right, its my opinion just as its your opinion that KZ2 looks better youre right.

HOWEVER 'looks' as in visuals and art style have no bearing on what game has better graphics. graphics is tech, theres an objective standard at the end of the day it may be my opinion that crysis has the best graphics but its like i said based on facts at hand. crysis DOES have the best textures crysis DOES have the biggest scale crysis DOES have the best lighting engine. it has the best tech behind the visuals. it has the best graphics end of story.

do not confuse the two.

No, KZ2 has the best lighting engine ever made, and it has more detailed textures than crysis, but i think crysis is extremely impressive in the fact that its open world with such high res textures and its far reaching draw distance

sorry but youre dead wrong, especially on the textures part.

KZ2s lighting engine is impressive simply due to deffered rendering allowing for unlimited light sources but its still not as advanced and crysis.

well for after a while it was just accepted that Kill Zone 2 was the console graphics king, then Uncharted 2 came out and replaced it, and even now that is kinda just an accepted fact

No one ever said KZ2 was not a good looking game, but trying to say that it is anywhere near Crysis is laughable.

As someone who's played both games, I'll say this. Killzone 2 wins in: Physics AI Character Animations( Lighting Character Models Gun Models Particle Effects Crysis wins in: Overall Scale Resolution Texture Detail Color(obviously) Anti Aliasing Draw Distance(wins by default due to scale, Killzone 2 has some pretty impressive draw distance as well) Fire/Explosions Water Vehicles They're both amazing looking games, but Crysis is obviously better graphically. I do think that Killzone 2 would look better if they were on the same platform(KZ2 on PC or Crysis on PS3). But they're not. KZ2 is optimized for the PS3 + teh cell and it has some strengths over Crysis such as physics and AI most likely due to the cell's power at solving formulas... but Crysis has bigger advantages due to graphics cards such as scale, resolution, and anti-aliasing that put it ahead of KZ2. They're both must-play games though.

Actually the lighting engine honestly COULD be the best made so far, so part of his post might be true... but he's very wrong about the textures. Crysis definitely beats KZ2 in textures. But think about it. KZ2 is running on a CONSOLE and still has better lighting than Crysis, a game with really good lighting. I can't think of one game with better lighting than KZ2 TBH. That's pretty ****ing impressive if you ask me. Running on a console and still managing to pull off likely the best lighting out of any game? You have to give GG some credit.

it doesnt have the best lighting though, more lights =/= better

the quality is more important.

its more impressive to me that the tech in crysis on high settings or medium high even is better than KZ2,UC2, and any console game yet it manages to run amazingly on even average rigs.

KZ2 is still impressive, and visuallly IMO its stunning. just not graphically.

really the only thing KZ2 does better is the gun models and the animations (which from a technical standpoint crysis's proceedurally rendered animations > mocap)

deffently not physics deffently not AI (well hard and delta at least easy and normal have too many quirks) deffently not charactor models and deffently not particle effects.

KZ2 is close with partical effects, and close with physics and close with AI. but everythign else its not even a contest. and i said it when it came out, KZ2 is one game i really wish was on the pc not just due to the visuals but because its a freaking excellent FPS

I've played Crysis on very high and I still believe that Killzone 2 has better physics. Well, at least more realistic physics. Crysis has great physics for plants, weather, water, fire, and vehicles... but Killzone 2 has the more realistic physics for just about everything else. It "feels" more real. The running, jumping. The ragdoll when shooting Helghast. The way bodies go flying when you shoot a rocket lancher at someone or throw a grenade at someone is superior to Crysis' body flying/ragdoll physics. Even the way grenades roll around and bounce off of stuff. It's cool shooting down trees and stuff in Crysis, but the character physics themselves aren't all that great. It has the "bunny hop" unrealistic jumping and running, and I'm not a HUGE fan of the building destruction in Crysis. I like the destruction in KZ2 better. I mean, the first level of KZ2 when you blow up that bridge is just more impressive than any of the destruction in Crysis IMO... or when you take down that big building with that chain gun. Or how about when you're on the train fighting off Helghast and the wind is blowing at you. That's a pretty good example of KZ2's impressive physics. Everything from running to throwing grenades in the direction of the wind is top notch physically. My opinion isn't a fact but I still believe that although Crysis wins technically and visually... Killzone 2 has a bit more over it than just the gun models and animations.

Killzone 2 has been consistently praised for its graphics and animation.

But... graphics alone won't carry a game.

most of what you described hardly has to do with physics though, the wieghty feeling when you jump and the KZ2 ragdolls are combined with prerendered motioncapped animations making them look good. the weighty feeling is just a developer thing limiting how high you can jump and the rate you do so. im not sure if its physics based or not.

so KZ2 'looks' more realistic but i was talking from a tech perspective.

and everything ive said is in comparison to crysis, KZ2 is a visually outstanding and for the consoles a graphical and tech fest.

Let's put it this way: If games out there could be "fighters". Killzone 2, along with Uncharted 2 would be the third grade bullies. Crysis would be the Heavyweight UFC fighter. I hope that puts things into perspective for you.

Are you serious. I'd argue that KZ2 is mostly "just" credited on visuals. Cuz as far as gameplay goes. It wasnt as good as it should have been. UC2 on the other hand, also had great gameplay, story, and dialouge to go with its even better visuals.

Like I've said, I've played both and it's just my opinion. The destruction, ragdoll, gravity, and wind physics impressed me more than anything Crysis impressed me with physically. I know it's not a fact, but also there's no way to prove me wrong. Opinions are opinions and I can see why people would like Crysis more physically due to the amazing plant, water, and fire/explosion physics.

Cows rejected KZ2 in favor of U2.

Killzone 2 has incredible lighting and animation, but it's a bit smudgy and blurry. Not to mention the simple geometry and sterile feel of the levels.

It's interesting that Naughty Dog manage to get superior results in less time with a "meager" budget of $20 million compared to what Guerilla produced with it's estimated $60-80 million budget.

There's plenty of other games that deserve more respect on the gfx side of things than Killzone 2, which was hyped to the moon for a long, long time.

UC2 has surpassed KZ2, I didnt think a PS3 game would top KZ2 for a long time, but UC2 has not just managed to edge Killzone 2, but they truly surpassed it, animation physics lighting gun details and explosions, nothing on the consoles touches KZ2, dropping in Helgan your first time of that little ship anyone would be amazed, but a few blocks down you get to see some very mediocre water effects, every game has its advantage, UC2 just flat out looks sick, textures, and amazing draw distances, and water effects are some of the best maybe even better than Crysis,

Crysis>>>UC2>>Killzone>>>>>>>Gears2>GT5Prologue>Mass Effect2

honorable mentions Far Cry 2 Bioshock Dirt 2 maybe I am forgetting some, and yes MGS4 and Halo 3 have dissapointed me the most this gen.

And I hate when people post those modded Crysis shoots of the leaves and just amazing lighting, Crysis on high settings does not look like that, whats amazing about the game is the sheer scope draw distances are amazing, and the PS3 just lacks enough memory to have that distance, and the majority of people coming here and saying crysis looks that much better are just lying, if you own crysis like myself I have both the maximum editionWarhead and Crysis, you know running anytihng under high settings basically Crysis looks on par like something like Half Life 2 on max settings, so unless you can run enthusiast settings in Warhead quit making claims here about the game based on youtube videos. Everyone here owns a maxishine computer when these graphic threads get started.

No, KZ2 has the best lighting engine ever made, and it has more detailed textures than crysis, but i think crysis is extremely impressive in the fact that its open world with such high res textures and its far reaching draw distancehamzah1235
KZ2's "lighting engine" is in actuality just using deferred rendering. Dead Space used it, STALKER used it, etc., and you could run STALKER at higher levels of AA since it used a modified version of deferred rendering which didn't make high levels of AA impossible like the one for KZ2 did. And ever since E3 2005 the game has been hyped to the moon from a graphics standpoint here on SW. People were touting it long before the generation even began or the PS3 was released. Then KZ2 came out, didn't really leave people in awe since the hype was high, but it didn't fail to meet expectations either. It was a good looking game, but it wasn't a flop or better than expected, so here on SW it didn't get much attention (plus U2 came out a few months later).

[QUOTE="Messiahbolical-"]As someone who's played both games, I'll say this.

Did you really just say Killzone 2 wins in physics when it has none? Character models? Gun Models? this is stupid.

[QUOTE="skrat_01"]Yeah Killzone 2 looks great, yes, spectacular yes. I care more about the gameplay of either, and well Crysis is well ahead.

Crysis looks better and it has better gameplay. Even multiplayer wise it's a better game.

I'm expecting Crysis 2 to blow KZ2, U2, etc. completely out of the water. This image was from Crysis, running in the CryEngine 2. Now they have the CryEngine 3 and it's supposed to look evern better.

Its because you can take a screen shot of any game like MW2 (which is one of theworst looking games i ever played due to nearly every single texture in the game being extremely low resolution, not detailed at all in other words), and the pics looked pretty good, so its the same with crysis, you cant prove your point with pics.

hamzah1235
are you kidding? until UC2 came out, half of the SW threads were along the lines of "KZ2 is teh grafix kingzzzzz."

Uncharted 2 looks better than Killzone 2. Why waste time talking about the second-best-looking console game?
