Before you ask me why I care, its because I'm also a L4D owner, and the way Valve is handling this franchise is outright despicable.

The new game is set to have 5 campaigns  over the first game's 4, except right out of the box they will all feature survival and versus mode options, where in the first game they are now available via a series of patches. The thing is, the new game has only 20% more content(one more level woohoo) and they're expecting gamers to shell out the cost of a full game for it?

The above link is a new community created on steam aimed at this issue, the page you go into goes into the details of what others think of this matter. And already this group has close to 3000 people who are equally annoyed by valve's actions.

It's a sequel. It's not going to be that much bigger than the original. Also, people were willing to shell out the cost of a full game when L4D contained 0% more content than L4D, so unless L4D2 is the four original campaigns AND a new one, I don't see what the problem is.

Yeah this is a bit unsually for Valve and this looks more like a big update than a full game. I mean Left 4 Dead is like what half a year old and their already mostly done with the second one? The name is just stupid too, I mean Left 4 Dead 2? That would be as stupid as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2!

I agree L4D 2 is such a rip off. They really should have just added more maps to the 1st one which felt more like a unfinished game. I guess Valve is going the way of EA now making quick squeals with little changes.

Is that a Bombcast reference? Anyway the whole thing just sounds stupid, to bad Rick Astely didn't pop up half-way through a trailer. Valve should've done that and then shown Episode 3 or Portal 2...

I kinda knew someone was going to say this. And the thing is, I won't buy it. But the issue here is that valve is already neglecting the original 2 million or so buyers who have the game. With this new 'game', they're using it as an excuse to stop supporting the original and cease releasing new content for it. This is completely different from the valve we used to know.

L4D2 should have been L4D DLC.

And it's only been 7-8 months since L4D was released. Why are they announcing a 'sequel' so soon?

By giving us a good game? I don't see your point. For YEARS people have been telling valve to hurry up and release games, when they do you complain. Make up your mind.

I agree. I feel really alienated by Valve. Valve has always been known to release games with to little multiplayer maps but they would continue to add maps as the months went on after its release. I bought L4D thinking this would be true. It only had 4 campaign and 2 vs maps which was pathetic but I always hoped valved would release new maps and with the announcement of part 2 it confirms that they will not. This is why so many people are mad

I'm a L4D owner and I don't care. Only PC owners who are used to playing the same game for 10 years are getting angry, and why don't they just take their own advice and play the mods that they always tout so much. I know it sounds harsh but it's true, they need to get used to how console owners feel, we're used to getting a new game in a series every year, and it's gonna start happening more and more on PC. They can have fun whinging I'll be playing L4D2.

Well if the PC community stopped pirating games they'd not have to cash in like this. Valve really needs to go console exclusive, get it out the way. Ideally before episode 3 hits, just to really give them the finger.

I love the quotes from that community page: "I hope valve learns a lesson and stops becoming money grubbing." Yeh Valve is SO greedy, just look at all the free updates TF2 is getting, but OH NO, they release a sequel and everything is all bad.

Here's my take on it. At first I was annoyed by the announcement since Left 4 Dead only has had one DLC released. However now that I actually got to take a look at it and see some more on it I can say I'm ok with it, here's why:

Confirmed:

5 NEW campaigns (They aren't recycling the first 4 from Left 4 Dead, these are completely new)

NEW characters (Its not the same batch, so once again they aren't recycling anything here)

NEW weapons (including melee weapons which is something people have wanted to see)

NEW zombies (New special infected could bring new elements to the game, plus they have original ones to work with as well)

ADVANCED AI director

Rumored:

Different extraction points every time you play

Multiple ways to complete a level, not just one single path to get through

Actually becoming infected after being bitten

Those are some of the main things that I'm seeing as a good thing here, more than likely this was geared to be a DLC release, however it was probably too big to be released as one DLC pack and instead of breaking it up (Blizzard I'm looking right at you with Star Craft II) they are just releasing it all together. Now hopefully they'll do the smart thing here and just support this one completely, which I also noticed on Xbox Live it already has DLC Support on its page where as the first one doesn't.

I'm guessing Valve wanted to test the waters with Left 4 Dead and see how people responded and what they wanted, this is what I'm guessing is going to be the overall response to that. Though I'd much rather see Left 4 Dead itself being supported, I'm ok with this, however if they do this again then I'm just going to stick with the first 2.

This has nothing to do piracy. FYI steam is actually one of the, if not most, secure PC gaming platform out there. Valve is pretty much free of piracy.

I like how you think giving out the TF2 updates for free is because they're "nice people who care about fun, and happiness". Giving out updates for free is just a clever way of making more money. People will buy the game if they think Valve is going to keep putting out these free updates for them. In reality those TF2 updates cost valve next to nothing, and the amount of people buying TF2 because of it is fairly large. Before you EVER think ANY company isn't greedy. Stop, and think about it a bit harder, because people don't just hand money away.l

From the devs who are still milking Half-Life 2 five years later instead of giving us Half-Life 3? Nah, you don't mean those guys, do you? Look, I respect Valve and love Half-Life as much as the next guy, but facts are facts. They love to milk you to the max and this is just further evidence. No matter how good their games are, I don't see how any gamer could support this kind of treatment. Not that I care for LFD anyway, but I am a gamer as well as a consumer and I will call foul when I see it every time.

Those complaints remind me of what happened after Diablo 3 was shown... Get over it. Seriously. They have EARNED the right to do whatever they want. And none of those whiny complaints have any basis or truth to them. Looked at every single one, and rolled my eyes. Feel like buying ten copies just to make a point.

Your OP is rather weak too, a bigger game, with more options, etc. and they expect you to pay the same price as the original, OMGNOWAY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??! Come on... The real issue here is that they aren't getting things entreated to them, and Valve is doing what they want, as iGN so perfectly put it.

Also, the game does look to deliver regardless of that point too, and Left 4 Dead fans really should be supportive of Valve if they truly were fans, and enjoyed the game, not complete hypocrites.

I really don't understand what all the whining about this game is about, aren't good games coming out a good thing? and I didn't exactly see this much *****ing when (for example) the new halo was unvieled, or the new zelda...

[QUOTE="nmaharg"] Then don't buy it. And stop complaining about a good game getting released.chansaet

They added two new vs. maps and a survival mode. They also said they"re patching in a deathmatch mode later this year....

People are pissed because Valve are going down the EA Sports route- ie releasing a new update to a 1 year old game packaged as a new game altogether. for a multiplayer game it splits the userbase & L4D was extremely under supported by the devs with previous little DLC made for it despite lots of content being promised. It's a sell out - rather than create the extra content- Valve are instead using that content to make a 'sequel'.

You sir if you need to say something I suggest getting your agenda right. How does this have anything to do Diablo 3? People complained about that game because of the artstyle, I'm talking about the value the gamers are out of the products they buy. And get your definition of 'hypocrite' right before you go accusing people randomly with the word.

From the moment they charged for the first game they made, they "sold out". This "they are screwing me" nonsense is so ****ing stupid. L4D was an awesome game. If you didnt think is was worth a purchase, but would be after updates, then bought it anyway, you are a moron. Get over it.

Seriously Valve dont owe anyone a damn thing other then the game you paid for. If you think it's to soon then don't purchase it, boycott Valve whatever. Skip it like casual Madden fans skip years. Whatever the case is stop spamming this board with Valve hurt my feelings BS. Sold out? Get real. The entitlement issues of today's youth is bewildering!

They even said they aren't done updating L4D yet. And even if they were many people thought the game was great the way it was, and will enjoy having a sequel.

Years of free updates, and quality software are all of a sudden forgotten because of a sequel coming out a year later? Stupid.
