Since so many people here seem to throw around labels like feces. I figured I'd reiterate the definitions for these labels so that people can better understand what they are insulting each other with.

Hardcore Gamer: A gamer that plays games addictively to the point of becoming socially ostracised. Hardcore gamers will play games on binges and will give up eating, sleeping, social activities and showers for video games.

Casual: A person who buys the video game system for a reason other than video games. They generally don't like video games but may pick up the console as a cheap movie player ala PS2.

Casual Gamer: A gamer that has a narrow minded and unadventurous taste for games. Casual gamers will only play games of a specific genre due to some social stigma, like for instance; chooses not to play games due to the game being too kiddy/violent or lack of mention of Madden in the title.

Non Gamer: Someone who doesn't really go out and buy games themselves, but are not apprehensive towards playing games if they have the chance. Non gamers crave mini game compilations since they don't require any thought or skill to enjoy. Though this label does not make much sense, as non gamers play more games than casuals but this is the label they are stuck with.

Fanboy: A gamer who will limit themselves to a specific video game company due to being raised by the video game console as a child thus replacing their father figure with their respected faceless video game companies. People often tend to throw this term around carelessly. A fanboy will not purchase or play anything from their competitors, they blindly follow their leader regardless of logic or sanity. A person that values a video game company more than others but buys and plays video games regardless of manufacturer is a person with an opinion, call them uninformed if you like but they are not fanboys.

Gamer: Someone who plays a variety of games regardless of genre, company or stigma for the pure love of playing video games. A gamer can balance a social life along with their hobby but generally only plays the higher rated games.

Nobody actually reads at the stickies, if they did then I wouldn't have had to make this thread in the first place. That and I've mentioned other things not in the sticky.

I'd be a little less harsh to 'hardcore gamer'. I consider myself such and still have a social life whilst maintaining good hygiene ^.^

But I'd add 'gaming addict' which is the unhealthy variety, like an addict of anything else.

So you're going to call me a casual because I already lived my childhood so I don't need to relive it playing juvenile games? To be honest I feel embarrased playing some Wii games. Admit it a lot of them are stupid or for lack of a better word gay

If a game is fun what other excuse can you have for not playing the game?

Average Game Forum Poster: Someone who is out of contact with the outside world and feels very uncomforable with themselves. Because of this they go on forums to post with others of "their" kind and have an obsession with creating labels to make themselves feel better by thinking they are superior to those they don't socialize with in the real world and often get star strucked when something doesn't go their way and create stupid excuses that anyone with a shred of common sense is ridiculous. (Examples: The "casuals" are going to kill gaming by buying nothing but mini-games, The Japanese are racist because they don't buy an electronic box) Another interesting aspect is the fact that they mainly join these forums to get away from the less serious gamers because they think that they conform to what's popular, when in reality the forum poster conforms much more. They often find themselves picking a fraction and being fond of labels such as being a "Nintendo fan" or a "PC fan" even going as far as changing what they think of games such as "Games are all about Gameplay, Graphics Don't Matter" or "Technology is the way of the future". Not only that but they often find themselves following the crowd by hyping the next big game that is suppose to lead their console into victory. Many of them also claim to be very "core" and "in with the know" along the lines of gaming and often rip on the "casuals" as they call them from not buying the games they play, when in reality the games the forum posters buy are nowhere near the best nor the most hardcore (Example: Blue Dragon is much more casual friendly then Soul Nomad) To take in more along the lines of influence and conformaty, they also often find themselves praising other forum posters who have high amount of posts and claim to know everything (NOT targeting ANYONE in this forum) about gaming (this is usually along the lines "I am the master of this certain genre" or "I know everything that happened in the 16-bit era"). When in reality most of them don't know anything because they spend all their time posting in fourms and the ones that claim they know everything about a certain time of gaming from long ago, are usually just fanboys or annoyances, the fact that they have to go to a place that consists of mostly people half their age to get their respect, pretty much boils down of how much knowledge and logic they have of these so called "eras" that they are familiar with. The sad thing about these things is while all these people try to be "hardcore" and "know it all" by buying the next big thing or supporthing something buy taking a side, the companies they love oh so much milk them to death. Such things include: Charging for online play, selling $50+ controllers, Buying Maps and other MicroTransactions, Charging $600 for a console that focus's on something you don't even need, releasing a better SKU that costs extra in a short amount of time which makes the previous ones obsolete, therefore the owners of the previous ones are almost forced to buy the newest edition.

So there you have it someone who feels that they don't fit in the real world, try to avoid those they know amongst the hobby because they feel that they don't know enough due to being handfed on what to like and not like, and come here, when in reality they do the same but worse.

=Gamer: I just like playing the games i have now and buy those of my fav franchises and buy old good games i missed out on at a cheap price. I read the forums for opinions on the current games/consoles cuz i don't yet have a nex gen system. plus it's frequently amusing:)
