So, like a lot of us, I read previews, reviews, and threads that talked about how aweful it was to play Lair with six-axis and that you had to leep pressing "X" to flap your wings and fly.

But I've also played the Skate demo on 360. And after playing the Skate demo the other day, I thought of the link between Skate's controls and Lair.

Is it annoying for anyone to have to keep pressing "X" or "A" to keep pushing yourself to skate? Yeah, you let go and coast every once and a while, but to get going you have to tap that button!!! How does this vary from Lair? How is Lair soooo aweful because of this but skating games are just fine?

FYI, just read through a Joystiq.com "hands-on" impression of Lair. Said some good things.

"As far as gameplay goes, we only had a chance to play a flying section, but it was very enjoyable. The SixAxis controls felt great -- which surprised us, since the controls had received the most negative press. Flying around as a dragon was incredibly satisfying as we could feel the weight of the creature when swooping down or pulling up further into the sky. It reminded us of the old DOS game Magic Carpet in how you had to compensate for momentum, lest you fly much further than intended."

You dont have to tap or push a button to move in a skating game. However, to jump, you have to hold down a button.I havent played Lair, but it doesnt sound like the controls are similar.

I'm sorry, you are partially correct and, therefore, so was I. You DO NOT have to keep tapping X in Tony Hawk. You do in Skate.

in Skate peddaling adds much to the realism. in Lair it sounds like a pain, besides, it seems like an inconsistancy to me. in Lair dont you controll the dragon rider? so why would you have to repeated hit a button to flap the wings? it sound either be automatic or just reguire one snap of the whip to get them going. just like in rl...

Why did you even reply?

Anyways, I don't really notice pressing X repeatedly after a while.

I want you to think for a second. Go ahead..... close your eyes........... I'm waiting........ Now, picture a jockey riding a horse......... What is the jockey doing?.......... That's right! He's whiping the horse to get it to go.

So, yes you control the rider. But that rider is on a wild animal, a dragon no less. That rider has to get that dragon to go, just like a skateboarder has to get the board to go. So where's the inconsistency? Its realism. You think you could just whip a wild animal once and it would do whatever you wanted the rest of the time? We're talking about some major maneuvers here.

Exactly my point. I'm sure there are plenty of games where hitting one button repeatedly was needed. To me, this complaint about Lair is a joke. Just like it would be with Skate.

Cuz i read the title as "skating games", not skate in particular.

Why does every single PS3 game has to be vigorously defended can't you just simple say the the truth and admit that Sony sucks right now? is that so hard to do?

Because of posters like you. Can't you just admit that this game could be fun? Seriously, some bad reviews come out and lemmings jump all over the game and how the six-axis sucks. I'm merely trying to counter that negative hype. i believe this game will be a blast. Not GOTY, but fun as hell.

I have played plenty of poorly rated games that were still fun and I have already pushed the "X" button about 111,373,872 times so pushing it a few more times is not so much of a chore. I don't know if this title is a buy but I will give it a rent for sure.

While I don't think constantly pressing x to flap wings is that big of a deal, comparing a dragon riding game to a skateboarding game isn't really the best comparison to make.

Where did I compare ANYTHING besides the fact of having to hit a button repeatedly? Get a clue.

Skate was too complex of a change. You're used to Tony Hawk, and then you play skate. and it forces you to control everything. From foot-pushing, to flipping the board. Too much going on at once, not for me.

Skate is freaking awesome.

The controls are excellent, makes you feel as if your riding the board with your hands.

Graphics are very well polished.

Music is real, by the original artist, old skol hip hop and funk, maybe more.

Been waiting for a game that this for a very long time.

Edit: dont know how Lair fits into this picture but hey, it has good graphics?

its because skate was made for skateboarders that want a realistic skating game instead of tony hawk where u can do a 900 into a boardslide. and in skate it takes a little skill to master a trick instead of just hitting a button
