don't forget about alpha footage that is very old.
Â
I'm glad people still keep comparing games with new footage to old alpha footage of halo 3.
Â
haha, fanboys.Â
[QUOTE="KeyWii"]I would agree, Lair is much larger, and has more enemies on screen, yet the detail is still much higher than Halo 3's. And it's 1080p with a pretty solid framerate.DA_B0MB
That new Halo 3 ViDoc featured gameplay from2005. This is 2007.
his 10000th time being owned this month   As for Halo graphically in general, Halo has never been the best looking game out. It never has strived for photo-realism or fancy graphics. It has always had a stylized art setting, and it has always looked good for its time, but never great.
On the Xbox, PGR, Doom 3, Far Cry, Riddick, and others all looked better than Halo and Halo 2. Yet Halo and Halo 2 are still the top two selling games on the system.
It is not now, nor has it ever been, about graphics for the Halo series. It is about spot on gameplay, a great story, and involving multiplayer (first LAN parties then XBL). The games have a great sense of humor, good story, a great musical score, and amazing developer support (Halo 2 is still getting playlist updates and new maps).
Halo 3 will not be the best looking 360 title, I would bet on it. But it will be the biggest title, and most likely, the longest lasting title (Halo 2 still has about 12,000 players online at any time almost 3 years later).
So Lair might look better, but it is not always about looks! ;)Â

LOL ok. I'm waiting for the response of KeyWii and Dualshockin(two of the biggest Cows on SW)
+Lair= CRAP
Lair's Gameplay= CrapÂ
you have to admit that when you compare the Lair alpha vids to the Halo alpha vids that Lair destroys it graphically speaking. And please dont say "bu bu teh gameplay" keyword here is GRAPHICS!! IM only comparing GRAPHICS and Graphically Lair owns halo 3. Pure and simple, just watch both videos and you will see Lair owns. When I watch the Lair gameplay videos its like a interactive movie, when I watch the Halo alpha vids its like Halo 2 with a coat of paint. oh and also dont say "Bu bu halo is just in teh alpha phase" thats no excuse, lair is in the alpha phase as well and it looks stunning. Why cant halo do the same?Ahammer80
When looking at It I must say no tbh. For example the boats shot off small particles after destroyed but didnt really show any physical destruction of the boat. If you watch Halo 3 footage you will see the Warthog explode in a huge fire and pieces will fly off and it will still be intact a bit leaving the visual of that car just got bombed. Then you got the Lighting, there is a one tone lighting for most of the part, you dont get a lot of lighting off of the fire or anything which you should and the fire effects arnt that great. The army units are clones of one another and dont seem to have much AI. The city has good far textures but if you get in close like on a bridge you can see the ground texture is pretty flat with no graphical effects like bump mapping.
Â
Anyway Lair is gonna be a great game but its got a lot of polish ahead of it. As for it looking better than Halo 3 Alpha I dont think so in retrospect of effects and textures.
Lair is in the alpha phase but it's out in two months? Do you even know what an alpha build is? :lol:Ninja-Vox
Well the footage could be from alpha, same as Halo 3 is nearly in beta but they are showing many months old videos.

Y'know, i'd probably agree, Lair is better than Halo 3 in the graphics department. It's just a shame that Halo 3 is better than Lair in the absolutely-everything-else department.
Lair is in the alpha phase but it's out in two months? Do you even know what an alpha build is? :lol:Ninja-Vox
A time when a game is granted immunity? The build IGN played was supposedly Alpha, that's the information we've been given. Go ahead and explain to us what an Alpha build is so we can determine who's right. You, or the people making the game. Â

There is no way the footage cows have been posting over and over is from an alpha build. It had the full-range of post-processing effects which are added after everything. That'd be like applying paint before your undercoat.Â

Simple. You go from design, to alpha, to beta, to testing, then gold. Design is obvious, alpha is getting the core mechanics and features of how your game will work set in stone. After this, you go to beta whereby work moves from the game's mechanics to the game's graphics, performance and continuity. You then test absolutely everything, usually have about two weeks of "polish-time" then the game goes gold.
It's different from developer to developer of course, and IGN may very well have played an alpha build. The videos shown off these past couple of days are absolutely not alpha build quality. Just no way. Unless they're showing off footage which is years old, as in bungie's case. If not, it's impossible that this game is launching in two months yet the development process is still in the alpha phases.Â

Its from many months ago from last year but yeah bungie never stated it was from a year ago.
"So, almost all of the reaction we read was positive, but there was some grumbling about the graphics. You can decide for yourself if you like the look of the game in a few weeks, and you'll certainly recognize moments and areas from that footage. All three levels however, have undergone significant improvements since that footage was taken, months ago, including lighting, decorators, textures, and my favorite - water effects. I don't want to overpromise here and set your expectations too high, so I am deliberately capping the type of language I use to discuss these improvements. A good example however, would be the water in Valhalla."

You misinterpreted numbers. That's what you did, check the 'date' on this one.
Then regret.Â
It's dated november 2005. This is April 2007. That is how i know it's old. :|Ninja-Vox
Actually Bungie has stated its only months old meaning its most likely from the same build 1up played in october or whenever it was last year. Either way months is a lot of time to improve and replace many of the place holders.
I will wait for the final versions of both to judge graphics.   As for Halo graphically in general, Halo has never been the best looking game out. Have to disagree.  Perhaps Halo 2 failed to sufficiently raise the proverbial bar for console game graphics, but Halo 1 was a visual monster. Compare Halo 1 with any console game from 2001 and you see nothing but rivers of ownage. I remember being in a Gamestop when the Xbox came out and looking at the grass on the ring on an Xbox kiosk. Damned impressive. Nothing as crisp, detailed or clean on any console anywhere. Of course, it wasn't just the graphics that made Halo great. Same goes for Halo 2. It looked decidedly better, but it was the gameplay that kept (and continues to keep) people coming back for more.
As for Halo 3...well, we'll see.Â
Those with time machines, going to the future and playing Halo 3 in its final form, PLEASE STOP IT, it could destroy us all

you should try asking that question to yourself. If the dev says its alpha stage then who the hell are you to say it isnt?
Link me to the developer saying this. :| You dont seem to understand, that's not physically possible. They may have shown videos from the alpha build, but if this game is currently in the alpha stage of development, it isn't releasing in two months. Fact.

Put it this way, the Halo 3 BETA test begins in May, and the game isn't releasing 'til november. If this guy honestly thinks Lair is in the alpha stages of development and is releasing in 8 weeks.... well, what can i say.Â
The alpha media of Lair is current, the alpha media in the Halo 3 ViDoc is old, some several months, some years.Spartan070

Yeah its not from 2005 but it is still old, atleast 6-7 months since its most likely the same build they showed to the 1up people.Â
