Isn't Gamepro Sony biased?
"To be fair, the motion sensing is pretty accurate but requiring you to constantly move your hands around while fiddling with buttons over the course of a fairly long game is asking too much. It's unfortunate that the game relies so heavily on a gimmicky feature that no one has been able to get a true grasp of (pun intended)."
"I should point out that we were playing an early review build and Factor 5 will probably make tweaks up to the moment the gold master goes off to the mastering lab, but the core gameply mechanics are already in place and there's no denying that it's flawed."
Early review build?
The graphics inthis game are amazing. It looks like the only hang up is the controls. Maybe a patch will be released that lets you use the sticks.
That being said. Not reviewing a final build of a game is not cool. You can not review rough cuts of movies, or unfinished art projects. Bad show gamepro
the game is finished..they have moved onto their next project already. The graphics inthis game are amazing. It looks like the only hang up is the controls. Maybe a patch will be released that lets you use the sticks.

it was a mistake to have the whole game using the motion..prob pressure from sony to have it as a kind of counter to the wii and its controll scheme but it back fired..they should at least patch it so you can have the option of both motion and the sticks.daveg1
I agree 100%. I was kind of curious about this game until I found out (just recently) that you can only use the six-axis for control. Not cool!
Hmmm... I wouldn't have though Factor 5 would have let something fundamental like the control slip... That's a shame, I had high hopes for this game. Aqua-Vitae
i still have some hopes it just takes an hour to get used to... or that it depends on the person. like with red steel: i got used to the controls in 10 minutes, some just never semmed to get used to it.
I think forcing people to use the sixaxis will be the only way to get them used to controlling certain games in this new way.
Using it to fly seems like the easiest way to implement the controller without it being a gimmick.Could just be resistance to the new technology. Doesn't sound broken, just challenging.

I was never good at the sword part of the game and my friend was never good at shooting the gun, so we switched through out the whole game lol

ha, well, playing it together is more fun anyway.

no... i thought the controls were great. much better than the dual analog controls

Haven't played Twilight Princess on the Wii, have you?If this was a Wii review, you'd be all over the crappy controls. If you're going to bash, at least be consistent.I think forcing people to use the sixaxis will be the only way to get them used to controlling certain games in this new way.

Oh wait, you are. If it's Wii it = bash. If it is Sony it = praise/DC. If it is 360 it = depends on mood.
honestly lair looks like a god of war clone...i say AA at best, maybe 1 million sold topsmwa
i think you mean Heavenly sword...
It's a review build though, Any additional tweaks made since that build was published will be minor (eg, wiping out a minor glitch or two). The graphics inthis game are amazing. It looks like the only hang up is the controls. Maybe a patch will be released that lets you use the sticks.

Umm, what God of War have you been playing? My version doesn't involve flying, flame breathing dragons. Did you get a collectors edition or something?

According to the review "the motion sensing is pretty accurate."
Heck my fingersget sore playing guitar hero but that doens't mean the controls are bad. If the motion sensing is accurate then they aren't brokenand the controls aren't crappy.
I'll praise the Wii when its earned. I've bashed Sony plenty of times. I didn't like motion sensing in motorstorm...in fact I hated that game completely. But it works great in Flow and added to the experience. I'm not against motion sensing in the Wii. I'm against its hardware limitations and claims of innovation.

Just like Rub a Dub Duck too..its fun!I bet Sony forced them to use the SIXAXISLosDaddieSince when has SCE ever encouraged Sixaxis controls, let alone force it? Sony's philosophy has pretty much just been "it's there, use it if you want". The real reason that the game is motion exclusive is because Factor 5 really like motion controls.
According to the review "the motion sensing is pretty accurate."Bread_or_Decide"Pretty accurate" does not sound that positive to me. I look for "almost perfect" or "great" or "anything that doesn't sound like they're trying to make it sound better than it is".
I'll agree that the Wii hasn't innovated much as of yet.

Haven't played Twilight Princess on the Wii, have you?Well I have and it was frustrating to play that game with Wii controls. Even my 13 year old brother who is the biggest Zelda fan I've ever seen couldn't stand the playing Zelda on the Wii. He went to a store and rented the GameCube version!
I'm not afraid to admit this game could be bad because of the controls. I've played excite truck on the Wii and I for one really hope that's not what we are going to see in this game.

Just like Rub a Dub Duck too..its fun!Laugh at rub-a-dub all you want. Is it for the hardcores? No. Its for the same market that Wii is capturing. Super-Rub-A-Dub has done more in that regard than any 360 title.

If the motion sensing is accurate then they aren't brokenand the controls aren't crappy.Bread_or_DecideExactly, they're saying it doesn't add to the experience. In fact, they're saying it hurts more than it helps. So the Guitar Hero analogy isn't really appropriate. Yeah, your fingers get sore, but the guitar adds to the experience over just playing with a controller. The Sixaxis for controlling the dragon here? Not so much, according to GamePro. Apples and oranges, Bread. If anything, it sounds like the controls to a poorly done Wii game, along the lines of Marvel Ultimate Alliance or Need for Speed Carbon.

I was like, this is great, because I felt like it was.
My girlfriend even played 10 hours, which is unheard of, and would never have happened on a "normal" controller.

I for one thought the Wii controls for Zelda Twilight Princess were superb, and extremely well implemented. I thought they definitely added to the game, rather then taking away from the game experience. But fair enough, it may not have clicked with you, and that's fine.

It's better now that there is clear line between casual games and hardcore games that wasn't really there a few years back. "Oh look, here's a generic WWII shooter/Crime Sim/hack 'n' Slash/Racing game/Sports game, Think it's any good or just more of the same casual trash?" Now all that casual trash is considered Hardcore so we can differentiate it from the super casual trash that's starting to become popular.... Wait a minute, that doesn't sound better at all, Gaming is doomed , :P.How gamepro review an early build !!! that's stupid
I think IGN try the Near Final build and they say :
" The missions have been fleshed out and the controls refined, plus visually it looks as spectacular as it ever did, running in 1080p at a steady 30 frames per second."
I think the control will improved in the final build

Its not hard at all to talk about PS3 and how they are smart enough to capture some of what Wii's been getting. with titles like Go Sodoku, Go Puzzle, Flow, Calling All Cars, Super Stardust HD, Rub-A-Dub, Wipeout HD, Echo Chrome, and others, its pretty darn easy. (these are all original PSN titles, BTW. Not some rehashed 1993 title)
Keep testing me, dhjohns. I'll keep owning you. Why do you think I'm in here trying to justify my purchase and not anyone else, or yourself? I don't need to justify a thing with my PS3 purchase. Its the reason people bought a 360 that I can't figure out.

 No doubt. I bought the 360 because I liked the games it offered. The library of games for the 360 ATM is the best. Time will tell how long 360 holds onto this title. The people tough " to figure out" are people like dub who just bash for no reason.
Okay, I've been lurking this site from work all summer but this thread brought me to actually replying. I think it's a shame that these reviews are bashing this game based on the Sixaxis control. I mean I HOPE they force us to use them. I guarantee that over time the controls will be fine, maybe a little weird at first but that comes with the territory.
I've been waiting for a game that actually tapped into the Sixaxis controls for the PS3. I'm tired of the "Play it Safe" mentality that devs have been having with the Sixaxis. Make players use the damn thing. Now we have Lair trying to do that and it's getting bashed? What good is motion sensing if nobody uses it for their games? Now with these reviews saying that the controls aren't this and that will make other devs looking to use motion sensing on a higher level shun away from that now.

You are assuming that the game got 5's based solely on the Sixaxis controls. Until I can read the full reviews (3 of them from EGM and GamePro), I'm going to assume that it was more than just based on the controls. Knowing Factor 5, I'd say that the game also had bad mission design, poor sense of where to go/what to do, and the "on foot" portions of the game were bad (where the dragon is on the ground and not flying).
Honestly, i bet you'd kill yourself or something if you actually enjoyed a 360 game. i've never seen such unfounded ridiculous bias before.

Nope never seen anything like it in SW before. Are you on crack? This room is filled with fanboys of all shapes and sizes.
And I have enjoyed a 360 game, GoW. I thought it had some really cool things. I liked the graphics (even though textures weren't what they were built up to in here), I liked the camera movement when running (really cool), and i liked how you could run from cover to cover.
I've never said, EVER, that 360 doesn't have some good titles.
