Last Gen for me.

Last gen all the way. We got finished games last gen all the time, and we didn't need to deal with shady practices like DLC and such. Games were overall less streamlined and didn't hold your hand most of the time, oposite in this gen. And of course, there was more of a balance of western and eastern support last gen.
No DLC last gen so I'll vote for that. Miroku32There were a handful of games with DLC last gen. One that comes to mind is Yavin Station in KOTOR.
This gen has alot of problems.
-Motion controls
-Tacked on multiplayers
-RRoD
-DLC
-Charging for online
-Unpolished games
-Online passes
-Games budget spikes
Microsoft is also trying to force contracts on consoles, and people will buy it *Sigh*.
That being said, this gen has a ton of great games, Blu Ray, Netflix, very well rounded consoles that get alot of bang for their buck.
This gen is less focused on games and more focused on gimmicks and nickle and diming customers with every ounce of content given...@ $10 more for the initial price of admission
Plus more glitches, less polish, weaker or non-existent single player.
Last gen was all about video games and actually had competition between the big video game companies to see who could produce the best ones...
Every gen is worst
PS1 and N64 were the best
Now only 360 reminds of this era with Lost Odyssey, Fable, Alan Wake, Witcher 2 and Dark Souls and maybe Elder Scrolls
Both PS3 and Wii are mere shadows of the older systems
Definitely this gen. All the best games of all time has come out this gen. Uncharted 2, Portal 2, Demon's Souls, Deus EX:HR, Europa Universalis III.
Who would honestly think this generation is an improvement?
The only improvements this generation brought were more detailed graphics and more storage space for games.
But last generation developers were more creative and therefore they produced more original games. Each with their own unique feel.
This gen has alot of problems.

This.
Old school gaming is better. No online = quality single-player experience, no DLCs and no patches which has forced developers to actually finish & polish games before releasing them.
Let's see
LAST GEN GOLD TIER GAMES (IMO of course)
-Pikmin 2
-Pikmin
-The Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker
-Dragon Quest VIII Journey of the Cursed King
-Metroid Prime
-Metroid Prime 2
-Devil May Cry 3
THIS GEN GOLD TIER GAMES
-Rayman Origins
-Batman Arkham City
-Batman Arkham Asylum
-Punch-Out!!
-The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword
-Super Mario Galaxy 2
-Donkey Kong Country Returns
-Dragon Quest IX
-Devil May Cry 4
-Super Street Fighter IV
I really don't know... It's tough to call, but I'm going to have to say this gen loses points for all this DLC bullcrap and other questionable practices in the industry.

Agree on all points but last gen was better we didn't have to deal with the greediest of devs. Glad i still have my GC, PS2 and Xbox :)
im not nostalgic, jaded or a hipster. This gen is better easily mems_1224
You don't have to be any of those things to prefer last generation.
My Wii and Ps3 both beat GCN and PS2...Last gen for sure. Nothing beats ps2 and Gamecube.

Last generation. It started with the Dreamcast which had an amazing first 2 years with games that were spectacular in both visuals and game design like Soul Calibur, Shenmue and the origins of the first successful online games on consoles with the likes of Phantasy Star Online. At about the same time you had Quake 3 and UT on PC and they were shortly followed by Deus Ex and then RTCW which remains to this day one of the best online multplayer experiences I have had.
PC gaming in general at the time stood out more from what was available on consoles and genres that no longer exist in any real way like the Space Sim genre were still around and producing games like Freespace 2, Starlancer, Independence War 2, X2: The Threat, X3: Reunion and Freelancer. This was one of my favorite genres and these are some of my favorite games. Even consoles got into the action with a decent space shooter in Rogue Leader. Then you had the PS2 and it's great JRPGs, GTA3 and a huge library of great games from a wide range of genres. The Xbox with Halo and Nintendo with their usual excellent 1st party titles on a system that had plenty of juice.
I could go on and on as there was so much content, variety and excellent games over short periods of time. The Dreamcast alone in it's two years would give any of the consoles this generation a run for their money in terms of the variety of good games available in different genres and it was probably the weakest last gen due to it's short life. This gen has plenty of good games but is lacking in variety and games that bring new ideas compared to the previous generation.

i agree with the Wii beating the GC by a long mile
but
the ps3 >>> ps2
not a stones throw of a chance
Didn't say THE ps3, I said MY PS3.. :) BC ps3.. best of both worlds.Honestly I think this generation was better for me. Maybe it's to do with my youth, but the huge boom in online gaming has made this gen so exciting for me. Playing with strangers and friends is just too fun, and some games do amazing things with it (Left 4 Dead)
So I gotta pick this gen, though last gen was no slouch.
the thing i HATE about this gen is the business practices that were introduced, along with used/rented games becoming the spawn of satan all because of a weak economy. as far as games go, i'll take this gen over last gen any day of the week. red dead redemption, rayman origins, bioshock, littlebigplanet, super meat boy, skyrim, fallout: NV, dark souls, portal and super mario galaxy are some of the best games ever created and trump most games last gen imo.
