v3.56 will let Sony do what it likes with your account

I guess sony can really get away with anything.

Why does that article instantly say "homebrew developers". It's clear that 99% of people who hack their PS3 want to cheat or get free games.
Doesn't Sony have a right to protect their developers and their userbase from hackers and theifs?
Even worse this article goes on to talk about how Microsoft let out the drivers for Kinect and used that as a point against Sony. Drivers for hardware are no where the same as custom frimeware and hacking of the OS to bypass security.

Yeah, if this means I can actually play Uncharted 3 multiplayer without hackers all the time, then it makes sense to me :P.
They're finally doing what Microsoft has always done. Good way to monitor game cheats and pirating. About time I say.
sony can do whatever they want to my account as its clean and legit and hack freecampzor
This. Unless you're toeing the line (or just downright doing the wrong thing), you have nothing to worry about. I don't care if toeing the line is legal, if you want to give it a shot, don't be upset if you have to face consequences.
If you play with fire....
You just might get burnt.
YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!
Well, typically, I'm not as worried about Sony having this access, but rather the risk that hackers get their hands on this feature in order to access anyone's console freely.
Maybe I'm being paranoid, but with all this talk about homebrew, I'm sure someone out there is gonna see if they can do it.
Hang on shouldn't they have had this all along? am I reading this wrong or they just including a feature xbox live and steam already use? a feature I actually like because I play fair and I think cheaters/hackers should be banned.
if the backdoor is a method of getting rid of hackers in CoD 4 GOOD.
Anyone saying oh teh blasphemy or that its wrong hasnt touched that game since patching its god awful and makes me want to quite literally murder kittens in an effort to make them go away.
Till then i'll just merrily play halo reach as my main online FPS or god forbid i have money tomorrow after my theory test i will just buy MW2 or CoD4 for 360 if i see it for around £10.
Sony has as much right to install malicious software on my machine as I have to remove it, DMCA or otherwise. Sony installs SecuROM on my computer, I have the right to remove it.Why does that article instantly say "homebrew developers". Ignoring the lack of factual evidence to support the 99% figure, isn't the "the end justifies the means" argument flawed, should Sony really do anything like plant rootkits (oh man, rootkits) on PS3s... rootkits was the cause of great headaches for people and Sony, it's actually considered malware and with good reason. I will point anyone to "Modern Operating System" chapter on security to learn more about rootkits and how it should not exist. Why does that article instantly say "homebrew developers". sony can do whatever they want to my account as its clean and legit and hack freecampzorWhat makes you think that'll change anything. Many legit music players were borken with Sony rootkit on them, the software is not perfect and may disable a system that is not really breached, at least it's happened before.
I know how you feel, my cod4 stats got hacked to lvl 55 and its just no fun... Its why I understand why people support hackers and likes because now the product I bought ha lost its valueif the backdoor is a method of getting rid of hackers in CoD 4 GOOD.

I would get black ops(used of course - in your face activision) but I dont know if the server issues have been fixed
I wold remedy this by getting the games on y xbox but, I wont pay live and even if I did my xbox red ringed last week so......... up the creek
Lol. It's nice to know that some things never change. That no matter what Sony does, it is horrible and bad and abuse of their customers, but if MS does the exact same thing it is a great thing for customers and shows they care.
Wow.

The 99% number seems pretty accurate to me. "Homebrew developers" my a**. It's kids that want to hack FPS and to steal games, and anyone else is a statistical anomaly.

if you've been on CoD lately you would more likely get the gist of it.People use the homebrew as an excuse for everything bad that is actuall going to and is happening. Its amazing how quickly after the CFW CoD was targeted aswell and pretty much shows why this CFW stuff is more of a negative for everyone.
It will most likely lead to archaic DRM, games having to be patched and then comes the endless stream of FWs by sony aswell as trophy tampering that is pretty much assured to arise out all this aswell.
CFW could potentially be a catastrophic hit for Sony and the average consumer who's going to inevitably feel the wrath of FW's and DRM cause some little kid spat the dummy quite literally and opened the flood gates for everything people DONT wont...oh but its all in the name of homebrew....pathetic.

Doesn't make your "99%" figure any more supported. I see plenty of trolls on the internet, doesn't mean 99% of all people on the internet are trolls.
PS, it isn't Geohot's fault that Sony is putting down the clamp, or that developers decide to use "archaic DRM," Sony installs a backdoor to your console, or any other protective measure they make, it's 100% the fault of the people that do that. Likewise, it isn't homebrewer's fault that people hack your games or pirate games, unless those homebrewers happen to be hackers/pirates.
Leave it to a good corporatist consumer to excuse any excessive protective measure from a company, no matter how invasive or how it erodes your rights as a consumer, as long as it keeps someone from hacking a PS3 to use OtherOS.

Let's get down to some basic debate skills, shall we?
The positive claim: 99% of all hackers are aimbotters and pirates
The negation: (not) ""
And seeing as you can't prove a negative, the burden of proof is not on me just for asking you to prove your ridiculous claim. I'm quite content to say not a single detail has been established on that matter, even if you happen to prefer the art of handwaving to make up imaginary details about a situation you know nothing about.

You are sir, are naive if you honestly believe that it isn't directly Geohotz fault that Sony is implementing such measures. None of this would have happened if it wasn't for Geohotz releasing his code/CFW. He may be against piracy but he's also a complete moron for thinking that Sony wouldn't strike back at the hackers and pirates; it all leads back to him, bad intentions or not.
And I'm pretty sure my rights as a consumer also entails me and other 'honest' gamers to properly funtioning software. You act as though Sony is going to steal you credit card number and social security number with their "invasive" tactics.

I can't play call of duty modern warfare 2 because its hacked to holy crap right now, Also that homebrew excuse is B.S, use your common sense here, you know full well people are going to pirate games mostly sure their may be people who only want to use it for homebrew but come on, think about it. How is this invasive or erodes my rights also? That's definitely the first time someone's ever used their high school debate team skills on a gaming forum. Well done, sir! Maybe you could explain to me what the "Ad Hominem" fallacy is, I could never quite understand that.
So, we agree then ... less than 1% of those using the hacked PS3 firmware are using it for homebrew software development? And the rest are using it for something else?
Let them, i don't mind. as a legit gamer i say you DESERVE whatever sony does to your console if you hack it for the sake of cheating and piracy.dvalo9What if you don't hack it or mess with it? you still get malware on your system that could potentially disable your system. I suggest you wiki, Sony rootkit.
Yeah all of these "Homebrew Developers" think they are victims... Its just plain stupid as 99.999% of all people only want to take advantage of their work, if they truly believed they are doing good for the community then they would not make it possible to run games full stop, none of this "Oh but i limited the uses of custom firmware" thats just BS... Its obvious what they are trying to do and hide behind their "I bought it so i own it and can run what i want on it" shield, it's just a shame it turns out to be the "I bought it so i open the door to pirated games and then claim it was within my right to do so".Why does that article instantly say "homebrew developers". MS can detect modded 360s online because the hardware has been modified, rootkits don't need a system to be online to ban such a system. A rootkit is like a virus, always running in the background checking your activities at all times and seeing if it will allow you to proceed if it doesn't find something it doesn't recognize. Like I said before, I suggest wiki'ing Sony rootkit or reading "Modern Operating Systems" by Tanembaum.

No, I'm not hacking, and I didn't put any malicious code on anyone else's machine.
Sony, however:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SecuROM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_copy_protection_rootkit_scandal
Just little angels.
I just happen to be advocating consumer rights. You're advocating the right of a corporation to rid you of your property rights for the sake of some intangible "experience," which could just as easily be fixed by adding a "voteban" function.
I'm completely fine with this. I will never do anything illegal with my PS3, such as "homebrew," so it does not affect me. They have a right to protect THEIR property, and as long as it doesn't interfere with the games and movie I purchase for it I see nothing wrong here.
[QUOTE="SunnySAY87"]then again hackers are going to stay on 3.55lhugheyNope. The 3.56 was cracked in ONE DAY! They can just falsify some of the information that is reported to Sony. You guys don't understand, Sony will not solve this issue.
They don't have to "solve" it, they just have to minimize the impact on game developers and gamers without disrupting their entire userbase.
No, that's not what I mean. What I mean is the right to use your hardware, there are specific copy protections included in the DMCA, some of which are exactly for that purpose, however, legal exceptions have been granted for jailbreaking. There's a legal basis for the exception as well as the enforcement of copy protection. If you were to hack software for the purpose of pirating software that would be obviously and blatantly illegal.Consumer rights? You mean the rights to steal games and break them so that you can have an unfair advantage?

However in attempt to "use" your hardware you open the floodgates for massive amounts of pirating.
Most people use these hacks to simply pirate games and Sony has every right to protect their game developers. So while you're fighting for the rights of a tiny amount of people who may use the rooted systems for development, the majority will use it for illegal hacking and pirating of software.
If you're in this position, you would be crazy to allow such a blatant breech of security go.
If you really want to develop for something, why don't you get yourself some cheap PC and put linux on that? Jailbreaking may be "legal" but it's uses are largely illegal. This is more of a legal gray area that Sony should beable to block out or somehow control.
