Source: http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/02/19/left-4-dead-confirmed-console-exclusive-to-360/

Quote:

The new game from the newly-acquired-by-Valve studio Turtle Rock Studios, Left 4 Dead has had a fair bit of press from the PC side of the gaming press, but we've heard relatively little in relation to a console version. Well that's over, as OXM recently revealed that the game will not only be appearing on PCs, but that the 360 version will be the only one appearing on any console. The folks from OXM got to play two scenario's (read: levels) on PC and one level on a 360 dev kit. As a minor point (but a good sign) the names of those levels recall the game's horror roots: "The Hospital" and "Cornfield."

The second part to this news is the identity of the developer who will be handling the 360 port (Valve and Turtle Rock won't be working with it hands-on). That dev is the creator of Halo 2 DLC, Certain Affinity. The 16 man team with former Halo team members will be "handle(ing) 360-specific elements like matchmaking, Live support, console customization, and 360 gameplay tweaks."

They should put a disclaimer on the "Only for Xbox" label about how it may also be on PC.

If it's on two platforms, how is it exclusive to one of them?

It was never even announced for PS3, and it's still not exclusive...

It's not even being developed by Valve anyways. And have you seen the gameplay videos? Honestly it doesn't look like something to make a big deal out of... The only reason I'm still tracking it is because it has zombies and I'll still give it a shot for that reason.

Valve bought the developers of the game. Kind of like how Valve hired the people who made Counterstrike and Portal.

That should be reason enough.

Massive self-ownage.

It's not exclusive because it's on the PC.

It was never even announced/rumored to be on the PS3.

1. There's no such thing as a console exclusive. Come on.

2. It was never scheduled for a PS3 release, or confirmed, or speculated. It was a general consensus that Left 4 Dead was a PC/360 game.

yeah...

but u gotta look it up, its gonna be a 30 dollar game, multiplayer only. its gonna have 4vs4 at this moment, that may change, and what u do is you either are a human or a zombie. IF you are a human u interact with your other squad mates by other lifting them up over a fences, help them shoot, heal them, carry them and protect each other to kill all other zombie players or reach the objectives, mattering the mode. There is also a rumored campagain mp mode where it will be a 4 hours campaign and there will be a mp campagin, like 4 player co-op, matter what side u pick the story will be different mattering what matches u win as well...but yeah..anyways, playing as a zombie u will have a aquad of 20 zombies and u will be a big grunt boss zombie to the humans, there will be 3 other 3 zombie players in on your team and your goal is to kill the players...oh and when the players get killed, they don't die immediatly they can bleed out, they can get knocked down and have to shoot from the ground till healed and etc....its reall cool just check it out. oh and destructable enviorment really makes for intrestin zombie attacks from any direction!!!

Reality check.

In the real world the console market and PC gaming market are unrelated. That's why Sony puts the Agency on PS3 and PC but considers it an exclusive and MS paid for an exclusive window on Bioshock for 360 and PC. They didn't want it to come to the PS3 they could care less about the PC version.

have u played it? i thought not, it used to be demoed at huge lan parties across NA in 2007, i wonder if they are stilling doing that, cause when i played it, i literally got an adrenline rush, its like the first time i took a jump on my dirt bike, i was like Wow! :D it was so different and so exciting, it never gets boring, when u think your safe, BLAM! a zombie raid comes at your from the left. You and your squad kill them all while nearly getting all killed by yourself, so u all heal up and run up to the roof, u think u are all safe up camping out on taht roff to finish resupplying, but wth! the zombies are climbing the ladder and also coming thro the door/stair way from the interior of the building and now u'r team has 2 zombie players with thier minions on you and u say "oh s***" and everyone practically dies, except for 2 of you, with one guy half dead, so u continue on to the next check point and there is the last zombie player and u either die or live, that battle is the funnest/worest because u have to keep moving, keep butting zombies while reloading and whatching ur back for attacks.

Wasn't this confirmed, like, when we first heard about it? I remember pretty well that it was said by one of the developers that it's focus was for PC and Xbox 360. Yet I suppose we need to clarify that now that we're in the year 2008, no? It's the only reason, next to Mass Effect and Bioshock, that I even keep my 360.

So then if MS puts "Xbox 360 Only" on a game that's on PC, they're falsifying their boxart. I don't see where you're going with this.

u are dumb, argue that with Microsoft then, cause i have a bioshock, halo 2, graw 2, mass effect and gears case, that all have the xbox only stamp on them. THATS WHY ITS CALLED CONSOLE ONLY EXCLUSIVE.....the pc and console makret are considered seperate for the most part anyways, thats why they prolly do that. Shadowrun was the only game i know of that had the stamp on both pc and 360 box that said "Windows live and 360 only" on it.

I would appreciate it if you wouldn't insult me personally for I could easily call you out on silly things like grammar yet you have the right to call me dumb.

Lol..not only it's not exclusive, but Valve isn't even making the 360 version themselves (unlike OrangeBox), seems weak console sales of OB have cooled down their console enthusiasm :)

mabe they just have many projects to keep the teams in house busy and found a reliable out of house team that has done great work and showed it in the past and atm show great potential? Mabe the halo 2 map pack team ( the guys that made hang'em high halo 2 map for 360 only map pack) knows more about the 360 and can get it done in time and that the 360 verison will rely on XBL match making system which valve doesn't want to get into because microsoft takes so much time to certify things unless u have the right paths that u know..... and mabe valve has found that the halo 2 team has had previous work with xbl and is up for it...mabe thats why...and mabe its cheaper...

"Console exclusive" is a myth,
if something is on multiple platforms, aka pc and 360, or ps3 and pc, or wii and pc, etc,
it's simply not considered an exclusive, like mass effect was supposed to be an exclusive,
heck, the devs on their own message board spent all that time screaming "IT'S NOT COMING
OUT FOR PS3 OR PC", then it was announced for pc :D
I never understood was people care so much about "exclusive" status, if a game is multiplat
and has a good development team doing the ports, what's the problem?
If something not being exclusive to your platform of choice ruins the game for you,
you need to get out more, and see the world, trust me,
Canada doesn't care that maple syrup isn't exclusive to Canada :D

its like sales, if the company states it, its the word u use...thats why console exclusive is used, yeah it would be nice to phase out the idea, but to many devs use that idea....so it confuses ppl. its better if ppl just kept it in mind and kept a good attitude towards it, u know, not like, but accept it.

Look mate, which ever way you spin this, it still means something.

If title A is on system X and Y but not on Z, then it is still an advantage to system X over system Z!

The rest of your posts is basically that we shouldn't really be arguing over which system has the best exclusives! I think that you have got lost and accidently wandered into 'System Wars' by mistake. I suggest you go and try the 'Games Discussion' forum or something like that instead. :D

Yes, it does, but, you know, it doesn't have an advantage over system Y,
if something is on literally 50% of current gen platforms, how is it exclusive to one?
You could say it's "exclusive to microsoft" I guess, since it's on ms windows and ms 360,
that'd make sense, but I mean, think about it, how can something on multiple platforms,
be considered exclusive to 1?

that would be true, but then again, boot camp on the mac right? lol anyways....its companies that say and insinuate console exclusives, why else would they stamp "xbox 360 only" on games on pc and 360 right?

Of course it's an advantage if it's an addition to the 360 library and not in the PS3s or Wii's! Stop and think about the point you're trying to make here mate!

I'm not calling it an exclusive of any kind really, like I said, an addition to a games library which is a positive thing for the 360!

Yeah, they sometimes do they, but, it's a marketing gimmick,
if we start repeating marketing gimmicks as fact, we're screwed.

The point I was making is, it's not an advantage over Y,
example: if it's on 360/PC, it has an advantage over Ps3/Wii if it's a good game,
but, no advantage over pc/360, since it's on both of those platforms,
and you essentially agreed by saying you aren't calling it an "exclusive",
which is my entire point, something on multiple platforms, cannot possibly be
exclusive to one.
I'm not a fanboy, I own multiple platforms, I'd say the same if it was on ps3/pc or wii/pc
or ps3/360 or 360/wii or ps3/wii.

Maybe because pc gaming and consoles are seen as seperate entitys we dont talk about pc sales in system wars do we? lets be clear here nintendo, ms, and sony arent competing the with pc market consoles never have.....but they are competing with each other, any game getting a single console release is one in the eye for there competitor at the end of the day the consumer is limited to buying it on one console and seeing as its a three horse race more like two infact becuase of the wii's success. there is an advantage gained no matter how slight that advantage may be........the term console exclusive is more than fitting here

You say that, but, as we speak, their are 4 PC threads on the main page of system wars,
I can't possibly see how a platform that you can play games on that is current and
has games that are considered for GOTY and various categories is now just
a non-factor in "exclusivity" talk, just because it doesn't fit in with your argument?

Fair enough but you didnt say that in your initial reply. You said: "Yes, it does, but, you know, it doesn't have an advantage over system Z",

But yeah, it doesnt have an advantage over the PC. I'm actually more of a PC gamer.
