Lemmings --- Do you even care about Banjo?

The franchise began on N64. There hasn't been a Banjo game in 8 years. Many Xbox 360 owners have never even played the Banjo games on N64. Banjo is releasing 4 days after Gears of War 2, an incredibly bad move imo. Many fans of the previous Banjo titles who happen to own a 360 are not happy with the new vehicular platforming RARE is incorporating. All these factors seem to go against the game. I think it could even flop in sales with the $39.99 price tag. The previous Banjo titles were considered epic games when released. They also sold really well. However, with Nuts and Bolts, RARE is trying to cater to an audience that hardly exists imo. Platformers have failed on Xbox. Just look at Voodoo Vince and Psychonauts.

So many negatives against Banjo: Nuts and Bolts. I can't see this title being a "must own" by any means. There isn't much hype either because most people don't care. I'm a huge fan of the previous Banjo titles, and even I think this newest installment looks incredibly weak. I hope this game turns out to be good. But as of now, I wouldn't be surprised if it pulls a Perfect Dark Zero and takes a nosedive in quality.

heck i'm not a lemming and want it! But can't afford it therefore will rent it or nab it as a gift. I just have the money for gears 2 now.....i bought fable 2 and ran close to out with my video game fund....i needz me food too! So i got my brother to get LBP and fall out 3.....we have yet to figure whats happening with banjo.

ps not getting R2, never liked resistance: FOM. Not my type of shooter, just like ut3 isn't...i bought that just because it was 10 bucks for pc and came with the development engine! ( i hate games that r play and spray...no intellegence and little real skill involved.) excited or killzone 2 tho as long as it doesn't turn into a cod4 clone.

The uncertainty of vehicular platforming mainly. Some of the gameplay seems really slow and unfocused. It doesn't seem much like a Banjo game from what I've seen imo. Go to gametrailers and a lot of the preview videos are scoring an average less than 8. There have been a lot of negative comments about the newest Banjo. And I should mention this again...platformers have NEVER sold well on Xbox. Psychonauts was an awesome game that flopped in sales. Voodoo Vince was good (not great), and it flopped in sales. RARE is hoping 360 owners buy a platforming title that releases 4 days after GeOW 2. I can't imagine that working out well.

I hope I'm wrong though. I want the game to be great, but even I (a huge Banjo fan) am doubtful about this title. I'm not even sure I'll shell out $39.99 for it. And this is coming from a lover of platforming games. 360 owners have never really expressed any interest in platforming titles.

Why is it that I see plenty of other threads saying "cows", "sheep", "lemmings", but I NEVER see any complaints about that. But when I say the word "lemmings" in regards to an XBOX 360 EXCLUSIVE TITLE, I get comments like this? Yeah, the world is not one giant system wars forum. I get that. I'm in system wars though, and I made a system wars post. I also haven't made that many topics lately. Sorry for not saying "360 owners" instead of "lemmings" more often. :roll:

Most hyped game this holiday.

I never really understood the praise Physconauts got. I played the demo, and it was extremely weak compared to other platformers, in my opinion. And worst of all, it didn't even feel like a traditional platformer. Also, the storyline kind of bored the hell out of me, and I didn't like humor. Unlikeable, stereotypical hero made me like the game even less.

Maybe if I played the full game, I might enjoy it more, but meh... The demo was bad.

As a 360 owner, and a big Banjo fan, I really dont care about this game. Its more like a spinoff.

Its like Shane Satterfeild from GT said, its probably one of the most overhyped games. He said there is nothing special about the game. All you do in the game is get parts, make cars, and race them. Thats it.

I'm interested. I don't see why everyone is calling it a racer. All the hands-on previews have said its a platformer but you're in a car. Thats how you jump from one thing to another, thats how you solve puzzles etc. Some people are just hard headed and have already formed an opinion, based off of nothing btw, and won't listen to fact or reason.

Plus I trust Rare. Most of their games are good. Even back in the old days they had titles that didn't get 9/10 but were super awesome. The amazing Jet Force Gemini is a good example of a great game that critics didn't enjoy for some reason.

Not to mention that Rare is a reason I purchased the original Xbox and was still a strong rreason that I purchased a 360 (although it was more for potential Bio-Ware games)

Bought the game, played for two hours and then shelved it. Agreed VERY MUCH, completely lacking of humour and dull platforming.

Being a giant Banjo-Kazooie fan of the N64 days, having a Banjo-Threeie was one of the games I have always dreamed of having. For those of you who conquered Banj-Tooie like I did back in the day, you should remember the tease at the end with them hinting for Banjo-Threeie.
Many countless years later, all hope has gone for that sequel to come... Until 2006 came, and they released this trailer:

I was tremendously excited as I believed the day had finally come. I didn't care if it was on 360 or not, all I cared was that we were getting Banjo-Threeie at last. (Or so I thought)
What had probably been a year later, Rare finally came out of their hole since their last appearance with the teaser, and showed some concept and gameplay trailer..... Uhhh what? This isn't what the Banjo fans remember from back in the N64 days. We were expecting the same formula that made the game's amazing in the first place.
Sure the graphics look amazing, but what was with the vehicles, and why are we forced to use them for most of the game?
I (Like many others) wanted a c.lassic Banjo platformer, and the updated graphics, to make it a truly amazing game. But instead, not only was it the graphics that Rare changed, but the formula completely, and that's what turned my hype off.
I haven't lost hope in this game completely, but I just wish Rare would have stuck with what made the franchise great. There was nothing wrong with the N64 games to begin with, so I wonder why change the mechanics?

I am very hesitant about this game now, I just wish Rare didn't go the way with racers and Battlebots in a platformer.
I'm going to have to wait for reviews and how people like this game when its release comes near to determine whether it is a hit or miss for me, but damn.. That wont matter, the franchise is changed no matter what, and that wont change.

Exactly. This is what is bothering me about Banjo: Nuts and Bolts. We HAVE to use the vehicles. In fact, it is even worse than I originally thought. IGN said that the ONLY traditional platforming is in the hub world. All levels that you access from the hub world...you must use vehicles. I'm imagining tinkering for a long time trying to get my vehicle just right so that I can access an area in a level I couldn't get to. Then rinse and repeat over and over. It sounds tedious and boring to me. The vehicle creation system looks robust and even interesting at times, but I did not want that to be the main attraction of the entire game. And I worry about how tedious this might get, especially in later levels. How often to you have to keep tinkering with parts and make a new vehicle in the game? This seems like it will completely slow down the platforming action to a crawl if you are constantly in the menu making vehicles. I hope I'm wrong about this, but it doesn't sound too good.

It is a total turnoff for those looking for traditional Platforming, but those don't sell well on 360/Xbox, so I think the change will hopefully be good.

Old Banjo fans will buy it because it's Banjo, and new fans should dig it too! I am worried it won't do well, but we'll see.

I have it reserved though.

Psychonauts was an awesome game it just didnt sell well

but banjo is a highly anticipated game and with the 40 dollar price tag plus with the free banjo download its going to sell like hotcakes

and rare has an excellent track record

to be honest they have really only made one bad game and that was grabbed by the ghoulies

kameo, the viva pinata series, all games got great reviews and sold well

I definately care about Banjo. I have pre-ordered and can't wait to play it. I am sceptical that this will be as good as the first two, but then they are two of the best platforming games ever.

Seems like a terrible move to release it so close to Gears of War though. I can't imagine rare being happy with it considering rares comments about releasing viva pinata close to Gears 1.

But in the end, as long as I enjoy it, and they eventually make another I will be happy!
