No Doubt. Instant stupidity for ANYONE in this forum that judges a game from random screenshots of a beta. Only a fanboy would do that. And I mean fanboy in the most pathetic and derogatory sense of the word.
WHy is it that other games that are in "Beta" form look great? Mass Effect, Bioware, Too Human, Gears of War, Lair, MGS4, Motorstorm? I just don't get why they all looked great but Halo 3 doesnt look great in "beta" stage.
You have to remember what the purpose of a beta is: Testing of gameplay, testing of mechanics, balancing of weapons, learning what works/doesn't work in levels, etc...
It is not to show off graphics. Bungie announced months ago that they would not have the final polished graphics in the Beta. They are testing the multiplayer so it will be as fun as possible in the final version. That is it. It is not to "Wow" anyone with the look of the game. The ONLY purpose of a beta is to make the game better through testing and feedback. So take it for what it is.
The E3 Gears Demos were PUROPOSELY for showing off it's amazing graphics. But some demos show off the gameplay instead. I thought the final build of R6: Vegas looked much better than the demo.
Halo has 6 months left to polish. They will be working on the textures, adding enviornmental elements, adjusting levels, tweaking weapons, increasing framerate, tweaking animations, etc. Take this for what it is... a BETA. And feel free to comment accordingly, but fanboys should stop acting like this is the end-all be-all of a game when it has HALF A YEAR left in development and this is not even a demo... it is a BETA. Maybe this is the best the graphics will be... but you will have to wait 6 months to find out, and it is highly unlikely that they will not be improving the graphics in the final 6 months of development.
The word "polish" is a fancy word the industry uses to refer to the last-minute shaders they plan on using in the game.
The beta screens of the game are most-likely what the final version will look like - the multiplayer, at least; single player tends to look a little better than multiplayer.
Until you really get the simple concept behind how a game is built in the engine, you realize words like "polish" really don't mean what you think. Building a game isn't like painting a canvas, one step at a time, eventually looking better and better.
It's:
1. Model
2. Texture
3. Map
4. Animate
5. Put into game
That's what the game will look like. They can't add anything more. The same goes for early screens of pretty much every other game.
