Leave system wars.

Stop going to Kotaku.

Don't visit IGN anymore.

Stop reading reviews.

Every hands-on update you read, every gameplay footage you watch, every story teaser trailer you see, you're ruining the game little by little. Fewer and fewer surprises are left for when you have the game in your hand, you know too much of what to expect. You already know what the gameplay will be like, how the story will start off, what the graphics are like, the the music will be like, and it's virtually impossible to be blown away off your feet.

Last gen, I didn't even know what gamespot was. I thought fable was one of the best games ever made, and I found out about it by fluke and played it; not knowing what to expect.

A few months later, I'm a gamespot regular and I'm seeing so much hate towards Fable, calling it a flop, etc. I'm so grateful that I didn't follow the hype on so many of my favourite games like fable, KOTOR1/2, the Prince of Persia series, etc. I played them fresh, and they will stay with me forever.

Games this gen have less of a lasting effect because I'm always up to date with the latest reviews, previews, and footage.

Well

No more. I'm going back to the good old days. I'm trying games myself, explore things and find things out first hand.

I suggest you do the same. Somehow system wars is pretty addictive, but I can guarentee that you'll enjoy games much better if you stop following hype.

Up to you.

I can agree with leaving system wars. I enjoyed my games far more before I came here.

The only problem is how hard it is to leave...

I don't think i'll be visitng this place for a while come October 17th, if Saints Row 2 is anywhere near as fun as the first i'll have tons of time to spend just messing around, then on October 31st i'll wake up to a bunch of games for my birthday. Can't wait!

I wonder why that is. It's a place full of rabbid fanboys and half baked debates with no winner, no ownage declared, and in the end, nothing. And yet I keep coming back. But this is probably the last thread i'll make, and one of the last times i'll ever come back here.

Yeah but when you own someones post it makes you want to stay. Like awhile ago someone posted a broken 360 topic with all this complaining, and then I found the picture he used on google and called him out on it. hahaha

Why do people do that? I've gone through a couple of 360's but I love the system. I'd do the same if my PS3 broke

I read no reviews and didn't even go to gaming websites or read magazines when Twilight Princess came out. I never even looked at previews. I just got the game and played it. I ended up having an amazingly good time with it and was shocked when I saw the Gamespot score for it. I really enjoyed it.

So, sometimes, I will do something like that for a game.

I couldnt agree more. Sure its good to look at a review or two to see if the game is actually good but games are so much better when they are a surprise.

I just like to argue, and usually I'm doing something else while I post here anyway (right now, it's subjecting myself to the VP debate). When a game comes out, I buy the ones I'm interested in regardless of hype.

Why the shock? It got an 8.8 which is just a teeny bit lower than that coveted AAA.

I always thought it was still a really good score. Technically a flop, but a good score nonetheless.

Because I had so much fun with the game, I myself would have given it a high AAA score. So when I come to find it scored that low, I was surprised.

Hmmm... I always take reviews with a grain of salt anyway. They're nothing but opinions (albeit professional ones), so I usually put more stock in the text than the score. I mean, this site gave Mario Kart 64 a 6-point-something for goodness sake, and that's one of the most addicting games ever.
