Personally, if MGS4 can deliver on everything we've seen in the trailers, then to me it's a 10. It is my favorite series, and it's something I'm really looking to because of everything great about it.
It certainly don't think it's impossible for MGS4 to get a 10. Who here would have ever guessed that Brawl would get a 9.5? The hype around it was a mid AA, with many that were looking forward to it openly admitting that it might not have the best score around, but it did.
I honestly can't wrap my head around the thought that it's going to be a 30 hour game, with only a third of it being cutscenes, that alone just blows my mind.
im gonna havta go with...umm...9.0-9.5 There is no way in hell MGS4 is gonna get a perfect 10. too much hardcore not enough casual :PII_Seraphim_II
I see you're still spreading this BS.

More casual than Ocarina of Time or Chrono Cross and Soul Calibur, surely?
EDIT: Possibly not Ocarina of Time..but still. :|

Yes. You have a right to an opinion and I have a right to say your opinion is nonsense.

oh yeah, i believe MGS is going to be more casual than OoT/CC and SC but the standards have changed. With gaming becoming more mainstream less and less games are going for that "dedication' type format and more are going for the easily accessible format to appeal to more people. While MGS4 would be considered casual by yesteryears standards, it is in the realm of hardcore these days. MGS1 was hardcore, but with MGS2 they kinda went more casual, then 3 brought back the hardcore

fair assumption and i do agree that nowadays games have to be more dumbed down to sell, but Ninja Gaiden is multi million selling and I think we can all agree its pretty hardcore.

Not a single game, I meant a single game within the franchise has reached multimillion status.
Metal Gear Solid: 5 million
Metal Gear Solid 2: 7 million
Metal Gear Solid 3: 4.5 million

[QUOTE="Tragic_Kingdom7"]How exactly are we defining hardcore? thrones
My definition is likely different to his.
I'd be interested to hear both of your definitions of hardcore.
My guess is a 8.5 simply because I know its gonna be a good game, but the series is getting stretched now and I was never overly impressed with the previous entries into the series. Ever since the second one came out I had little interest though I did pick up the third one but was let down with how long it took to do stuff and I just didn't feel hooked by it. It'll score high but I doubt its going to be as amazing as everyone is hyping, especially since the ones before it were never ground breaking or mind blowing, just good games that a fair amount of people enjoyed.
Its going to do well, but I don't think its the second coming. 8.5 is my guess.

Niche genres that aren't quite into mainstream gaming. Metal Gear Solid, while not as prevalent as Halo, certainly isn't something like Disgaea or Defcon.

You should have stuck with three. Yes, I consider it a flaw that the beginning of 3 was so broken up with cutscenes, but if you get past that, 3 is much more gameplay-oriented than 2 and is overall a stronger package.

true, but I just thought that Ninja Gaiden for Xbox had sold 2million+ thus making it a "multimillion" selling franchise...
I dont have the exact sales figures for Ninja Gaiden but i know it sold 700,000 in japan alone and it was one of the "Best Selling" games on Xbox, so im assuming (maybe wrongfully) that it sold 2mil+ thus making it a multi-million seller.

well, you cant really say that NG is hardcore by your definition then, not with games like Devil May Cry, and God of War...NG is not very niche...well no more so than MGS.

I feel this is a good definition of hardcore, but I don't feel Ninja Gaiden fits this (although if I'm recalling correctly, it was another poster who said it was).
By this definition, GTA and MGS, while not being hardcore, would be more hardcore than Ninja Gaiden. I feel that despite the popularity of both, GTA and MGS genre-wise are far more niche than a hack and slash game. GTA and MGS are genre-mixers. It's just recently that after all the GTA copycats, the sandbox crime genre has become mainstream.

I thought Ninja Gaiden sold terribly in Japan.
From wikipedia:
Consumers have bought 1.5million copies of Ninja Gaiden and Black as of August 2007.[133] The sale figures reflected Tecmo's decision to design and cater the game for foreign gamers. The Japanese were not excited over the games. According to Itagaki, they bought 60,000copies of Ninja Gaiden in the four months since its release.[26]Famitsu also wrote that Sigma sold 76,095copies in its first six months.[134] However, according to the NPD Group, the games saw great sales in the United States; in their first month, Ninja Gaiden sold 362,441copies and Sigma sold 63,637copies.[135][136]Next Generation also claimed that consumers bought 470,000copies of Sigma in Europe and North America as of April 2008.[137] The critical and commercial successes of Ninja Gaiden have led CNET and GameSpot Asia to induct the game into their Halls of Fame.[138][139]
I don't think any game individually has gone to become a million.

Well I loved the first one and played it to death, then when I got my hands on the demo for the second one I thought I would be in for the same experience, however I was sadly shocked when I played the real thing and found out what a joke it was. I could never bring myself to finish it simply because I couldn't stand the whole feel of the game and the fact that I wasn't playing as Snake. With the third one it was just too slow, too muching waiting, too much jacking around with my camo and all, plus I felt spoiled by the great radar from the first one and now all I had was some piece of crap. The fourth one I dunno, I'm not holding my breath on it and I doubt it'll be the second coming Sony fanboys are hoping for.

MGS1 definitely had better pacing than the other two. In fact, it was nearly spot on.
I feel that Kojima took some of the quirks of the first game and let them get out of control with the second. Things that seemed charming in 1 all of sudden felt like flaws in the sequel. I felt that game had screwy pacing.
Save the plethora of cutscenes tacked onto the beginning, 3's pacing was much better. No, it was not MGS1 pacing, but it was trying its hardest to get there at some points in the game.
I thought Ninja Gaiden sold terribly in Japan.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma: .09m in Japan, .38m in NA
Ninja Gaiden: .07 in Japan
Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword: .01 in Japan, .07 in NA
That's all the info they have on the recent NG games. It's not much information, but it doesn't look like Ninja Gaiden games are ultra-popular anywhere. The low DS sales are most disappointing.

im not saying it will reach god of war standards or even be a multi-million seller, im just generally saying give it more time im sure it will sell respectably. I wasnt alluding to our previous discussion.
