You summed up my thoughts at this early stage...I don't have much more I can contribute, so take that as a compliment TC. :P

The 2 games I am looking foreward the most next gen is Agent and Infamous 3.

Agent beacuse it is made by rockstar north (GTA developers) and everything rockstar makes is automatic GOTY status. Im expecting a 70's noire themed Red Dead Redemption type game, and Red Dead Redemption is my favorite game this gen. Im sure at this stage in the game, it is most likely in development for PS4 by now since we havent seen anything on it yet, and Rockstar is known for long development times.

Also Infamous 2 is my second favorite game this gen, so that is why im hyped for the third game.

I am also hyped for the next Uncharted game assuming ND doesnt abandon the franchise next gen.

I'll just say i hope the rumors about the ps4 built in motion control stuff are fake, i don't like motion controls for ps3 and 360 if i want that i play my Wii. And i hope microsoft focuses on the game next gen not an xbox motion control system, i want games not kinect games. And for the big three keep making great exclusives, specially nintendo and sony.TheGuardian03
As long as they dont force their worthless motion crap on the consumer who wants their platform like Nintendo does, I have no problem with it. They can make all the ridiculous gimmicks they want just dont force it on the consumer who doesnt want it.

Inb4 "if you dont like it, you dont have to buy their platform"

If they have good games that won't come out for PC, maybe I'll buy one. My ps3 didn't get much love, but I don't regret buying it, had some great games. In the end, it will be all about the games again.

The main thing I am looking for in the next generation is control method. I know the big two are going to each put out a system with increased graphical capabilities but how each one goes to market with there controller is what will win me over. I do not want to see motion controllers as standard. Hopefully the next MS console ships with a tweaked 360 controller. I want the better dpad of the newer style controllers with maybe a button implemented on the under carriage for added input options. On the PS system I want a new controller. We have had the DS for a more ergonomic offering. Just my two cents.

Neither will be launched in 2012, so there is not much to talk about.

I agree with TC and if both systems come with similar spec and price then Sony's 1st Party games would definitely attract more customers. But as long as Nextgen consoles can run BF3 DX11 level graphics at 1080p then I would be happy with either one of them.

Until I start seeing some pics of games and the systems (besides WiiU), I won't get too excited. But more than likely, I will end up owning all of them

I'm really not too fussed on the specs of the individual machines to be honest, as long as all of them produce/display 1080p as standard. The "HD" this gen leaves a lot to be desired. As far as the amount of polygons and shaders used in games these days, I have to say i'd be happy if there was little or no increase in those terms (i happen to think games look great in this respect), as long as we get true HD games.

Obviously the use of HDD's will continue in one form or another, as will high density optical media (such as BR) but i think we MIGHT see a reduction in the price of console games with more downloadable games coming to market (not having to pay for an actual disk SHOULD reduce costs a little). As much I love to own the actual disks that games come on, over the last few years Steam has just had some amazing offers on, and I see this as the way forward for many companies. It SHOULD reduce costs for them, and for us too (at least I hope it does as £49.99 for a console game that costs £29.99 or even £39.99 on a PC is unjustifiable to me).

I'm not that interested in controls to be honest, a good old fashoined controller suits me fine for most things, but we will probably see MS and Sony copy to some extent what we've seen with Nintendo this gen.

im excited for next generation simply based on wanting to see what consumers pick and why? the libraries of games are soooo similar and everyone seems to be moving closer and closer together in terms of what they actually offer functionality and entertainment wise, it will be interesting to see how it all pans out. i'll most likely buy the next xbox first and then see where it goes from there. thats not etched in stone, just what im leaning towards.

They wont come out any time soon. Thats all you can really say atm without saying what you think they should/should not do with their next console.

theyll be out 2013 or 2012 holiday at the earliest BUT. Next Gen Consoles need to run Dx 11 BF 3 1080p true hd WITH EASE. Meaning that its not capped at BF3's highest settings. They need to be able to contend with pc for 5+ years. All these games that look 3x better on PC makes me sad

I will probably buy the xbox only. I have a PS3 but it collects dust. I Also hope Xbox gets more exclusives because its starting to only be halo and gears for xbox and that really sucks.

Consoles don't need as much memory as a pc. They don't run a big heavy os on them like windows.

That Xbox 720 link you gave is 4 years old, so that holds no meaning. Microsoft recently stated the 360 will be their main console for at least 2-3 years more.

If thats true then that would make a lot of sense seeing that the PC isnt that far ahead of consoles for graphics.

I shouldve defined it more since views can vary on how far ahead something is. I meant that PC games arent 5 or 10 years ahead of consoles.

4 gigs of RAM are not necessary for consoles. My bet is 1.5 GB for Wii U (512 RAM, 1024 VRAM) and 2 GB for next PS and XBOX. Remember most of the RAM in your laptop is consumed by Windows, anti-virus, java console and another thousand things you are running in background. There is not even a game that would utilise 4 GB of RAM yet, most todays PC games need around 1 GB or even less to run maxed out.

i disagree. We need a console that will last WELL vs a good PC for 5-7 years. 3-4 gb ram should be a minimum.

I'm very excited about next gen because I'm new to consoles, and going from PC gaming to 360/PS3 was a bit of a letdown, the games look so much better on PC. I think the next gen graphics will look more like what I'm used to.

That said I think next gen consoles will have about 2GB RAM each.

The RAM in consoles is not the same as RAM in your computer, it's not general purpose RAM, it's a faster type of memory that's more expensive to manufacture, specific to gaming applications. Also consoles tend to have a very small, compact OS that need very little memory.

I admit I'm a bit of a Sony fanboy, I want them to win, but intellectually I know that they are profit-driven, they're not doing this for charity and Microsoft could indeed be better for consumers in the long-run.

My final thought is simply a pledge that I will not buy 2-3 consoles in the future.

I'll wait about a year after they come out, then I will decide and stick to 1 console.

Having both 360 and PS3 is like trying to please 2 wives, there's too many games tugging at me, I'm getting ADD and unable to focus. Every time I try to enjoy Halo, I got Killzone 3 going "daddy, daddy, why aren't you playing with me."

But parting with one console is too hard, I feel like I didn't give either of them enough of a chance, if I sell my 360 I'm betraying Marcus Fenix or something (I know that sounds completely moronic) and if I sell my PS3 then I'm abandoning my squad mates in MAG.

It's goddamn ridiculous and consumer electronics choices shouldn't be this hard.

So yeah, 1 console for me next gen, I promise.

I think what this gen has proved is that anything could happen what if Sony has RROD? What if XBL is free but sucks and is hacked? I will be sitting the first 2 years out waiting for the system's prices to go below $400 and then I'll buy one when I find it having 5 or more exclusives that I want.

Sony is going ro pull the same thing this gen; release a console at $ 600 with barely any games and expect people to flock to it. I think microsoft still continue their forward momentum and be the number one hardcore console in america again.

It wouldn't shock me but I just don't like the way they are doing things atm with coming off as being very NOT hardcore.

I'm actually pretty sure Sony will try to copy their PS2 days and make a relatively "weak" console with a price tag that matches the Wii U's.

If I were a betting man I would put my money on MS having the most expensive/most powerful console next gen.

With the way they are pushing these consoles as multi media devices they will in the future.
