Let's drop the 'that game isn't worth $600' argument.

I still see people using that argument. If a good PS3 game is being discussed, someone will invariably jump in and say "good game, but not worth $600."

True.

But here's the thing. No game on the 360 is worth $400. Halo 3 isn't. Gears of War isn't. Mass Effect isn't. Ninja Gaiden 2 isn't. Fable 2 isn't. But those games, combined with the entire library of the 360, are collectively worth $400.

Similarly, MGS4 alone isn't worth $600, nor is FFXIII. But combine those with the likes of FF versus XIII, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, God of War III, Gran Turismo 5, Eight Days, White Knight Story, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and future titles by talented developers such as Team Ico, and you have a compelling reason why $600 is worth it.

Hence, the whole argument of "such-and-such game isn't worth $600" is misleading, outdated, and should be retired along with the dinosaurs.

Sadly, this is what many fanboys do, validate a $400/$600 purchase with one "must have" title.  To validate a purchase that big, your console "must have" a lot of upcoming games you'd want to play :P

well, in that case, a typical Blu-ray player cost around $800... then you get much more than what you paid for.

i agree with what you say however........

at this moment in time the ps3 is not worth $600 because theres no games out besides RFOM and motor strom worth getting. Where as the 360 has about atleast 30 + titles which are worth getting.

Untill more games come out for the ps3 the ps3 isnt worth is price tag. But in a years time it will be worth it. Just like the xbox 360 wasnt worth getting when it first came out. But its worth getting now.

A game console should be $300 that's what we are used to and why the wii is selling alot more than the 360 and ps3 but the ps3 is not just a game console is it. The ps3 is what the old xbox was a cheap pc that plays console games. If all you want is games then yea the 360 and ps3 are over priced but if you want more then the 360 and ps3 are very cheap imo.

but with PCs you dont just pay for a gameing platform you pay for a hell of a lot of other functions as well. PC you can pritty much do any think unlike consoles which are just htere to play games.

back to the consoles the ps3 will be worth its price tag once more games come out that warrent the pruchase.

come on, in the consumer's point of view (like me), of couse we want things to cost as cheap as possible, but that doesn't mean PS 3 doesn't worth $600. may be not yet, but it eventually will when MGS 4, FF XIII, GT 5, etc came out.

The ps3 is worth $600 right now to me just on the blu-ray player and the linux install alone imo. The fact that the ps3 has some good games is like icing on the cake for me. I really don't think gamers get what the ps3 can really do and that is a shame. Sony has made the ps3 to do far more than just play games and now that wifi is working with ydl it just opens the floodgates on what's possible.

uhhh yea thats true i bought a gameboy pocket, gamboy color, gameboy advanced, gameboy sp, and nintendo DS just for pokemon.

To me PS3 is worth 600 just to play MGS4 alone...but luckaly it will have a whole bunch of other great games to play as well so it's even better for me.

    You don't really need to wait, as there are compelling titles available to the PS3 right now. Whether or not they appeal to you is a different story, and if you aren't interested in the current library, you should wait. But there are good games for the PS3 now, and there will be great games in the future.

Actually, yes. When cows bought their PS3s, they KNEW there wouldn't be any games (except a few) for it before summer/fall. We bought the PS3 because we think it's the best long-term choice and that's all. YES, WE HAVE TO WAIT.

Remember though that its an opinion. I got a 360 just to play Bioshock. And I am getting a PS3 for MGS4.

I have plenty of cash so I can buy systems for just one game but that does not mean I can't enjoy what else the console can offer me.

The games may not be worth $400 or $600 to you, but to others they are. I happily shelled out $250 to play Zelda:TP and I felt the purchase was worth it. I bought my 360 for Halo 3, I ain't gonna lie, sure it has other great games, but Halo 3 is worth $400. I would gladly pay $400 to play MGS4, but not $600.

Its all opinion and preference.

but thats why i have a laptop...people never said they wanted it to do all that crap...they have computers for a reason...i want a damnvideo game console...not an all in 1 entertainmet thng

The reason I sometimes say "this game isn't worth 600 dollars" is because the PS3 doesn't have, in my opinion, a very good library.  The only game that interests me is Resistance.  And usually when I used (I don't do it much anymore, because talk about Resistance has died down) the phrase, the Sony fans were saying how Resistance alone was amazing and a good enough reason to buy a PS3.  That's just me, though.

Buying the ps3 for games now is completely unrealistic, it's too expensive.

Now if you have an HD TV set and is looking for using it's HD playback functionaly as well, than it's the best out of the 3.

As a console, Ps3 is too expensive and doesn't have enough games, as a blu-ray player/console/media center it's the best hardware out there. I'll wait until the games I'm looking foward to are out.  

Ya know what? I'm hoping Lady Luck will praise me again for the third time in a row and allow me to come across a FREE PS3 like my PS1 and PS2 were. :D

Though I may get one, but I may get it in three years. The reason I say that long is not because I'm trying to wait for a massive drop in price or anything, but it's possible the next two years of my life, I'll be... traveling, I guess is the appropiate word. So, I'll be traveling and you see my consoles will be left home... :(

Yeah it is.... but 360 was at least as bad as PS3 up till this point in its life yet tons of people still bought it for Gears and Halo3. By fall PS3 is definitely worth the money...... so with no hardware problems there's really no reason to wait either.

I totally agree though the "not worth $600" arguement is a pretty lame one, just not the worst one on SW by far.

How would you know what THEY did. As a matter of fact I got my 360 at launch for the main reason of playing Halo 3. I'm still gonna get Mass Effect and a few other games that looks good, but when I bought my 360, the main reason was Halo 3. On the other hand, the games coming out on PS3 look slightly more appealing and broad to me. Games like MGS (stealth), Gran Turismo (racing sim), God of War (action adventure), Uncharted (adventure) and Ratchet and Clank (platformer) were all main reasons for me buying a PS3. All thought it's a bad argument, most of the 360s games are shooters and they get boring after awhile. The other 360 games just don't appeal to me.

I don't know MEtal Gear SOlid 4: Guns of the PAtriots may actually be worth the purchase of a PS3.

Its amazing.
