I was wondering the same thing. I don't recall Sony ever telling anyone what % of PS2 had the disc read error. I don't remember M$ giving any percentages of 360 failures either. Everything he's saying is just made up speculation. Nothing truly official.
It reqired me to get 3 new ps2s.
was it really that high 66% ?
Atleast MS has warrenty extended for this, sony left us high and dry the dirty, dirty theiving ...... &%$^£!!!~#
Why? 33% of PS2s didnt get the error The disc reader error was easily fixed and didn't require a new or different refurbished console Once your PS2 was quickly fixed it stayed fixed, it didn't break a week later or in even in some cases, *GASP* 5 whole minutes later I had the disc reader error myself on the launch PS2 but fixed it by simply cleaning the lens and adjust it's angle. How do you try and fix the RROD? By suffocating the 360 in a towel? Sad but true. Sorry Lemmings, Sheep, the RROD is the most catostrophic bug to ever plague a console. PERIOD.DarthaPerkinjan
Got a link? If not you just spouted a whole lot of fanboy dribble. But then again that is your SOP.
I had to send in my launch 360 in for repairs once, and had it back in my wall unit 10 days later for free. I had my launch ps2 break during a game of Madden 2004( after about 30 disc read error attempts I gave up)Sony wanted my receipt, or proof of purchase, and for me to ship the console at my own cost, in it's original box. None of which I had. Off to buy a new ps2, I was. My 2nd ps2 broke while I was playing FFXI, costing my lvl 38 Whm/Sum a free Holy Breastplate and costing me another $200 or so dollars.
I have a friend who is a Socom junkie that swears he is on his 4th ps2, and not until he got a pancake version was it reliable.
Your title says that the RROD is better then the DRE.... Might want to...fi....no, just stop right now.Ibacai
I prefer the "33% of PS2s didnt get the error" bit. That seems to suggest that 67% did.
It's funny how lemmings actually try to use the DRE's as a defence. Sony learned from their mistakes and have made a near flawless system. MS went from a relatively reliabe system to a shoddy piece of junk.
There would've been a forced recall from a class action lawsuit without the warranties, effectively killing the 360. The warranty is nice and has saved 360, but they aren't exactly doing it out of the goodness of their heart.... they just have to. RROD IS a huge problem and is just pathetic for a modern high end machine like 360. Sad thing is it's 2 years later and we're still waiting on a fix. I probably already would've bought one and just dealt with the warranty crap had I known MS would just never bother to do anything major to fix it.
the 33% was told by 3 former eb games employees and a handfull of best buys' wow that's what i call solid numbers right there. sony fanboys just keep on trying to find ways to bash the 360. just please stop trying to compare them right now. ps3 just doesn't compare to it. in a year or two it will but not right now.

You forgot one difference...Sony IGNORED the problem until they were sued. So you can stop with the Sony is holier than thou attitude it really doesn't work.

You mean the present where the 360 has many more games for it than the PS3? Hmm, I thought the motto for cows was "Just Wait". :?

Funny how cows like to brush Sony's mistakes under the rug. What mistakes with hardware did MS make exactly prior to this to learn from. I mean the PS2 was Sony's second console so by your logic there was no excuse for them to have probs with it.
if you tell me "hey the 360 has the best games" i cant say "yeah but last gen sony had awsome games!" cause thats living in the past and its just irrelevant.
on the other hand i can say "well look the ps3 has some awsome games coming out inlate 07, mostly 08 that look pretty good to me"
and thats ok...
game in the present, look to the future. dont live in the past.

im not tryint to excuse sony, the dre was stupid but at least it was fixable...and yeah ms did have lots of experience about mistakes in hardware...sony. if your competitor makes a mistake one generation the idea isnt to say "lets one up sony and make a hardware issue that SUCKS!"
ms should have thought "ok people get mad when their consoles break."

I'm not trying to excuse MS either but they didn't have any hardware issues of their own to run off (they made a mistake by rushing to get it out a year ahead)and wouldn't you think they all would have known people would get mad when their consoles break? That's just common sense.I just get tired ofcows trying to give Sony a free pass or making them out to be the moral compass of the console business (ie "they care" that was stated by shemnonpie earlier). These are mega corporations that only care about dominating the marketplace and making money.Sony didn't do anything about the DRE until they faced a lawsuit over it, they didn't just say "We made a mistake let's fix it.".

I'm not trying to excuse MS either they rushed the 360 to get a head start and that was a huge mistake IMO but I'm tired of cows trying to make Sony out to be some sort of moral compass for the video game industry (ie "they care", they "don't cheat" etc... I hear crap like that from cows on hear all too often). I would think none of the companies would need experience to tell them their customers will get mad if their several hundred dollar consoles break, that's just common sense. But Sony IGNORED the problem with the PS2 until they faced a lawsuit over it, so no matter how fixable it was they were in no hurry to admit the problem themselves...ie they're no better than MS.
While acedotely the % may be higher with 360, it good enough to say both SUCKED... unfortunately, 1 is still sucking which is a good part of the reason no one I know will touch the thing. I commend MS for stepping upto the plate on warrantee, but unfortunately that is just not enough to compensate for something that should have been caught in the design phase. At the same time, shame on Sony for being so problematic on their issue, but props to them for making their next installment solid as a rock (still won't get me to buy it, but hey).
You know the really funny thing, my PS2 works fine, by friend's 360 is fine, but I've collectively seen a 100% failure rate from the GC's we own. Weird.
i agree that sony isnt "morally right" and ms isnt "morally wrong," they're both companies and guilty of that crime...
anyway yeah sony's blind "oh there's nothing wrong" wasnt smart but at least the dre wasnt deadly. it could and can be fixed, type it into google there are some nice guides with video that i used.
