"One of our secret correspondents inside an EB Games store forwarded us this picture of an internal email sent out to the videogame retail company, saying that not only was the week of WotLK's launch the biggest sales week of the year, but it was the biggest week ever outside of last year's Christmas sales, and the biggest launch the chain has ever had. Additionally, at EB Games, Wrath was the highest presale ever, the highest single-format (which means PC/Mac only) week one sales (in just two days), and the highest day one sales of any game ever, multiformat or otherwise.

Pretty incredible. EB Games isn't a small company by any means, and while we knew Wrath was big, it looks like Blizzard's second WoW expansion smashed pretty much every sequel it could in the chain, even toppling some of the console gaming records. Anyone that claimed World of Warcraft had peaked with Burning Crusade should be looking pretty foolish at this point."

Link

That's one big LOL aimed at consoles.

There is still some of the same old crap.  There are also some amazing new quests.  I think with Wrath, they are trying to make the player feel more involved in the game lore.  It's a good move.

Well you can say the same about almost any sequel you can imagine. Lemme help you. Try Halo 2. Or Halo 3. Or Gears of War.

I agree. The only 'evidence' we have that Wrath of the Lich King is any good are its amazing sales and its massive critical acclaim from reviewers. Obviously mavericks like us know the real score.

idk about that. there are plenty of games that you can play for free that follow the wow format down to a T. It gets amazingly boring after awhile for me. Why spend 6-10 hours getting to level 40 when i can play through another entire game instead?

Yea this could be said about any sequel out there. So I don't see your point. Also with this expansion they have done alot more than you think :)

Meh I don't know, I really don't like leveling much either, it was fun the first time, but I leveled up at launch with the whole server and all my friends, it was great fun exploring the world, meeting new bosses, finding new gear, but imo WoW only really starts at max level. But the gets boring thing, if you think about how many hours you can put into the game before it gets boring, it's allready more then every other game I've bought this gen.

In spite of that, Halo 3 sold more. Yet, Grand Theft Auto IV sold more. Weep me a river. A cheap expansion to the biggest PC game was incapable of beating sales records. A cheap expansion.

I don't like WoW at all. Used to love and play it, but I gotta say that wow today really is a completely new game. Even though I think Blizzard has done so much wrong with it. The new class is messing up the balance, everyone and their mom is running around with epic uber gear, there is NO reason for all those other instances that exist (Onyxia and Ragnaros) and the only focus on high level stuff makes the leveling experience completely pointless since 80 is the place to be at right now. But they have added a lot of things, no doubt about it.

WOTLK beat halo and GTA in one day, also I'd hope halo and GTA have better sales than WOTLK at this point, both of them have been out alot longer than 2 weeks.

oh, that's because of second expansion of the almighty world of warcraft did not outsell the massively hyped multiplatform GTA4, so it has to be the fastest selling pc game, Halo 3? provide a link that says Halo 3 sold over 2.8 million copies in 24 hours, you can't find one, that's right, Ms never provided one..

Massively hyped sequels to massively popular titles like GTA4, which has many ad campaignes going on at the time of launch outsold an second expansion of 4 year old game, which has its main profit coming from the actually monthly fees.

So shocking !!!:o

... have you read the reviews? Clearly you haven't, seeing as Lich King revamped everything in the game. Just because it's not called World of Warcraft 2, doesn't mean it doesn't give you a sequel's worth of content... and then some. I mean look at Gears 2, Halo 3, Fable 2, etc. For all intensive purposes, we may as discount them as well based on this standard you are putting in place.

What does you opinion have anything to do with the insinuation that Lich King only adds 10 new levels and a new class? Or is that your way of saying: "I fold"

Why spend 6-10 hours getting to level 40 when i can play through another entire game instead?mtradr43

Put that palm right on your face.

So you'd rather pay £50, or what $60? for a game that last's you 6 hours, than £9 or $15 dollars for a game that lasts you years, You're going to need to spend a whole lot of money to keep up with that.

It's now about BEATING THE GAME, it's about enjoying it, speeding through it, unless you get enjoyment from that, isn't what it's about, not for me at least.

It's merely an expansion, nothing more.

krp008

Because it does not have '2' in its title? It adds as much, or arguably MORE content, than game sequals do, and as people have said, can stand toe to toe next to these other titles..

yea 2 bad its the same bland and repetitive gameplay as the others. Let me guess, the next expansion they gona add a new character and make the level cap to 90? UTTER GENIUS!!!!!!rs0101
You have no idea how wrong you are. With Wrath of the Lich King Blizzard decided to go a new route with the game play. They started creating phased zones and new vehicle gameplay that encompasses all aspects of the new game. They invented new boss mechanics that far surpass anything in the previous games. The quests in zones have long dialogues and stories behind them, and some story arcs stretch for three zones! One that comes to mind is the Drakuru quest chain, in which you capture a frozen troll, only to to find out he used to be a head honcho of a group of trolls. Over the course of the arc you free him from his captivity, take back his troll citadel, finance a scourge envasion of another troll tribe, and inevitably have to put an end to his games because of his evil ways. There is also another one involving a Titan by the name of Thorim. The titans are the creators of the entire universe, and he was betrayed by his brother, Loken. (Reference to Loki). The entire quest chain is a HUGE reference to norse mythology, and you spend a lot of time doing God of War style flying between drakes and doing mid-air combat that is simply epic and nothing like previous games. Then you have boss fights with new mechanics. Malygos is especially interesting, in which you actually control mounts and flying discs and have to fly around. The bosses are less gear dependant than they were before, and rely on clever manipulation of gameplay mechanics. Thorim bowing before me from completing his chain; Overall WOTLK is a game that has been upgraded in storyline, story telling technics, gameplay mechanics, art direction, sound, class mechanics, and so much more. To quote Drakuru, "You have exceeded my greatest expectations".

I look down upon people that actually play WOW...

TheDefinitive

I look down on clueless morons.

I look down on a game that got owned by Halo 3 in sales thus far.

How did it get "owned"? While it would not surprised me Halo 3 will sell more, and probably sold more on launch; its no surprise considering the game had the biggest marketing campaign in the history of gaming.

Compared to WotLK, which essentially relies on its fanbase / player base.

Contrasted to World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, the cheap expansive to a game that has eleven million players.

Yes, and Halo 3 was an established franchise with two former titles, the second of which also had a massive marketing campaign - only to be beaten by its predacessor. Go figure really.

Merely to smash records so that Bungie can swim in money.

Well MS is really swimming in the money, as they owned Bungie in both those periods. Heck Activision is leeching off Blizzards success with WotLK, and sub fees....
