Still haven't played the original. Just downloaded it with PS+ so I'll definitely check it out sometime this month.

Sounds pretty meh. Missing the main gimmick of the game and also we already know this story. Why aren't they just going straight to a new set of characters?

Its a younger Chloe who may not have picked up all her bad traits yet.

And it seems Ashly Burch will not be voicing her but Rhianna Devries.

I mean she went thru rough shit so I'll definitely give her a shot. No pun intended.

But the fact that it actually not the story you know does change what you said. They are not doing Rachel in the Dark Room. its set 3 years before LIS and 2 years before the event.

I thought of TexasGoldRush the second the game showed up at the conference hahaha, knew you'd be jumping at the announcement.

I'll play it even though I thought LIS was ok.

Kind of bummed that it's only going to be a 3-episode game. Maybe they'll pack a lot of content into them hopefully.

They did not want to force themselves to do 5, and they actually thought of doing a single game. There may be less story here than in Max's tale.

We will get an episode where you will play as Max, but right now its for Deluxe Edition owners only. I assume its going to be about the day Max moves to Seattle, leaving behind a grieving Chloe. The developers also said that Max will be referenced throughout the game.

3 episodes plus a bonus episode = 4 episodes actually.

@texasgoldrush: Thank you for mentioning this, as I wasn't sure. I heard a while back about Life is Strange 2 taking place with different characters in a different location, which I think has a ton of potential.

I feel a lot better knowing that Before the Storm won't replace that. I don't think this prequel is doomed to failure, but I don't see how time travel would work in this setup. If it doesn't have the time powers, it's kinda lacking the most unique feature of Life is Strange.

It is the story we know, Chloe has lot of details on growing up and spending time with Rachel in LiS, and we already know the outcome of her backstory. Also doesn't change what I said about how the key mechanics of the series will not be around.

So no, nothing in what I said is changed.

It just won't work for Chloe. In fact, they want her to be the opposite of Max, where she cannot rewind time, but blunders through her decisions. She is by far a different type of decision maker than Max is. There WILL be supernatural elements however and I think Rachel is the one with powers.

And really, the sequel will probably have different powers.

However, lacking this key mechanic could also help the story. Chloe is simply put, is different from Max. Really, the key mechanics of the original is not really of the series but of Max herself.

Second, this story is NOT about the outcome of her backstory. And its not exactly the story you know in its details.

Stupidity in a barrel.

Because the character is younger, so they are getting a voice that sounds younger. Ashly is also an Emmy nominated writer, she is no slouch, she can write. I do think Hannah Telle will be back for young Max however.

How much younger? She isn't 12. She looks like Chloe without the blue hair. Her voice being changed doesn't make sense.

She is 16 in the prequel and 19 in the original game. The change does make sense.

Enough to where they could cast another voice actress. Its Rhianna DeVries turn. It also may have been that Ashly wasn't able to return as Chloe or did not want to voice her again.

And really, as good as Burch was in the original, LIS was Hannah Telle's game.

Making a prequel about the character I hate the most. Ugh. I rather a game centered around Victoria, because I wanted to kill Chloe off since episode 2.

Still gonna play anyway especially if I can play with Max.

Also CONFIRMED, the story is all new, centering around Chloe and Rachel dealing with Rachel's family's dark secret. So this is not a direct prequel to Life is Strange

The bonus episode in the deluxe edition of the game centers around young Max.

What a wonderful idea. A poorly written prequel that focuses on the worst character in a subpar game. What could go wrong?

Nothing. Its a prequel to an acclaimed game that focuses on the most popular character in that game.

They aren't AAA titles, hell Before the Storm is cheaper than a Telltale game, which look worse.

However, before the storm's animations look far better. In fact, I think they need to release the original with the tool deck nine has.

As for Telltale, they are finished. They are the walking dead, just like the zombies in those games. Their sales have crumbled, the CEO resigned, and they probably would have led to a second crash of the adventure genre if it wasn't for DONTNOD.

It's optional, but of course most people who played the original ended up choosing that route. Ha ha.

Instead of time travel powers, Chloe will have a clothing, graffiti, and backtalk system. Instead of a diary like what Max uses, Chloe will write unsent letters to Max. The gameplay will be tailored to Chloe and her personality. Playing Chloe is basically the opposite of playing Max.

NEW STORY, you do not know the endings, it is not a direct prequel to Life is Strange, and the game will have multiple endings to the story arc based on your choices. The relationship between Chloe and Rachel was ambiguous in LIS and that gave Deck 9 freedom to allow player choice here. The relationship can be platonic or romantic, like Max and Chloe. Each episode will take place over a day, which means that Rachel's horrible fate will not be covered in this story (unless there is an epilogue).

Max (in a bonus episode), Joyce, David, Nathan, and Frank return and Victoria was mentioned. New characters are coming from Rachel's world. Mr. Jefferson (the weakest part of the original, so good) and Kate Marsh will not appear, and probably neither would any Blackwell Student that wasn't there in the past like Warren.

Bad News: Hannah Telle, voice of Max, is also part of SAG AFTRA that's on strike, so she may not voice Max in the Farewell episode.

This looks like interactive move. the video footage i have seen show no gameplay at all. waste of time.

The first scene had non linear gameplay and optional puzzles and collectables, the next two scenes were abridged scenes. They clearly sliced out moments to show in the demo and they tell you this. Each episode is 2-3 hours, like the original game (although the fourth episode was longer).

The new voice is actually very good, Rhianna holds her own pretty well.
