No, I reckon 100 million over it's lifetime. 120 is probably pushing it, especially when there is not as much marketshare to fight over anymore.

I'm going to say no but I do think it's POSSIBLE. I'm figuring maybe just a little north of 100 million.

If the mods dont clean these trolls up system wars is going to be dead, they are copy/pasting that PS4 list in every thread.

It's possible, but I think Xbone will be pretty close, so like 90-110 million for both. With the PS4 beating the Xbone by 10-20 million units.

There is no Wii console this time that is offering competition so they both have that market to try and capture too, that is where I think Microsoft will make up some of the numbers in the long run as they cater for casuals better with Kinect and the multimedia functionality.

And that's just at launch! ROFL!

Its got a chance of solidly hitting 100 milli considering Sony's got the strongest 1st and 2nd party devs of the big 3, pumped up their marketing prowess, and are starting it off good from a price standpoint.

You are all misguided if you think the PS4 will run away with sells. Its going to be another close race between Sony and M$.

The gaming population is growing. There is a chance that both consoles will reach close to that milestone.

It wasn't a niche in 7th gen neither. What I mean is gaming is spreading out, mobiles are taking over casuals, and then there are more options than ever for gaming, we have Steamboxes, the 3 regular consoles, Shield, Ouya, and others.

possibly, it depends if the isues with the hardware are isolated cases, or if they are a big issue.

The PS4 is the better positioned console right now, so if failure rates are low, no overheating, and the like, then yeah I can see it reaching up there. especially if we see a 10 year cycle for all consoles this time.

You keep forgetting that china just removed their ban on consoles so the ps4 will easily sell over 120 million units.

well, when PS2 dominated the Xbox and GameCube sales were like 20 million each, the Wii U is already shaping up to be a repeat of the GameCube, so if the X1 does just as bad then that's possible, but if not then they're going to have to share a larger chunk of the console gaming market with MS

You are forgetting the reason the 360 sold less. It's called a launch shortage. The Xbox 360 was completely sold out for quite some time and as a result, the EBay prices were in the thousands. Many stores were reporting less than 10 units for the launch. A lot of people didnt even get their launch preorders until 2006. Even during Best Buys second launch. There were over 200 people standing in line at my Best Buy for many hours. Come morning, there were only 25 consoles to give. I was 6th in line. I think its safe to say that the Xbox 360 would have sold like that if only the units were available .

Yep all 200 of those Chinese people making more than $50 a year only will be able to buy it. I don't think you know how things work over ther. Game King only broke 3 million, and that's adding all 3 (heard there were 4 but only played 3) of them

I doubt it. It will probably sell about the same amount at the PS3, It won't get anywhere close to the 150+ million the PS2 sold.

No, Playstation now has stiff competition that attacks the exact same market. It's a matter of there not being enough of the gamers in the market.

I look at it like this, the X360 and PS3 both sold the same, 80m, but I see it as they have 50% of the same target market which consists of around 160m. The PS4 could sell a few million more then the X1 this gen but that's it. So it maybe 85m to 75m at the very best to Sony.

The days of Playstation consoles selling that much are over, when they did sell that much it was because they had no viable competition.

You think you can predict 5+ years of performance based on a week of sample data? What kind of statistician are you?

Given the current market and the equalized performance of the 360, PS3 and Wii, I don't doubt that none of the now current gen consoles will get anywhere close to 100 million. The market is trending towards smartphones/tablets and PC games. Handhelds and consoles are a dying breed. I would be surprised if any of the new consoles make it past 50 million in 5 years.

Depends on who takes the casual market.

PS1 got them 5th gen - over 100 million sold, PS2 got them 6th gen - over 150 million sold, Wii got them last gen - over 100 million sold

This gen, who knows who will get them.. The Wii U has a family friendly reputation as well as a price advantage; The XB1 has Kinect and multimedia capabilities; and the PS4 has a power advantage, while staying on the tried and true path for everything.

Your crystal ball is broken and nothing is real in Fantasy Land. If the PS4 continues to have issues, no ones going to want to buy it anymore.
