you know you can install YellowDogLinux on Ps3 officially. But Microsoft Has no plans to let the kernel use free.

Xbox360's Windows Media Center Extender feature is not enough. I think Microsoft can prepare a special Vista BootDisc andmaybe install discfor Xbox360 and sell officially. It would be great.

I doubt it, it poses a few problems.

It obviously couldn't be any version of Vista above Basic, since the 360 isn't equipped to support things like Directx 10.

Why would you want Vista on your Xbox 360?

I've actually seen a Linux distro CEO interview on YDL for the PS3, and the one thing he said was a constraining factor is the RAM (512). But he said it "isn't really an issue because Linux is just so efficient."

And it really is. One of the common criticisms levied against Vista is that it's extremely RAM intensive. Gamespot says you need at least a gig to run it efficiently and at least 2 gigs to run any kind of graphics intensive app without bogging up system resources.

It's completely incompatible with the Xbox 360 for this reason. XP, maybe, but NOT Vista. Plus, why would you want Vista on 360? It's having enough trouble running effectively on PCs as it is.

And would you REALLY buy a $200 "360 version" of Vista? Really? Linux is open-source. I can download any version I want completely free of charge, partition the hard drive free of charge, and run any app I want for free.

"360 Vista Office!"

NO THANK YOU. BAD IDEA.

That would be the worst thing that could ever happen to 360 owners. Ever. Ever ever ever.

why?jack_russel

I agree with jack_russel. Why? I mean the linux feature is great because i love hacking and modding all my systems, but in an economic sense, the average user wont care about PS3 linux...they have their computers.

i don't wanna surf on a console with such limited memory. my firefox goes over 200megs with all my tabs every session.(at 290 right now)

I'm not going to do photoediting with gimp on a console or program on one. what good does that linux do for my over a regular desktop or laptop with linux.

Running another OS opens up room for a mod community and unfortunately pirating. So we'll see what happens in the future.

Computers that can do that are much cheaper than the 360.

This is... odd. I'm in agreement with you :P

Yeah, Vista on a 360 (well, actually vista on anything) is a really bad idea.

You dont need such big memory to run something on a console,

a limited featured version of vista would be cute. Maybe PC games on 360 :)

we're talking about something like firefox for linux. you'll need just as much memory if you're doing the same things and your firefox preferences and add ons are the same. then if you do multitasking forget it. open office is a hog.

It doesn't matter where you run Vista, it's going to need the same amount of RAM unless you gimp it to all hell.

And PC games won't ever work on the 360, if that's the dream of this, best let it die now.

QFT, if that would happen it would be really bad dont give microsoft any ideas. I read somewhere that with the older dashboard versions on the 360 people are able to run linux, but if you use the older versions that means no live so i guess it wouldn't make any sense. Anyway it would be nice if the 360 could officialy run linux but why would anyone need to run that kind of thing on a console everyone here has a pc which is alot better in doing that kind of stuff.
