As I was watching the video below I couldnt help but think that. I mean, the freedom the games gives you to create is incredible, but I feel the vast majority of the games created are just going to be half-assed parodies of other more popular games. I mean its great as a novelty to play a sack-boy version of limbo or something, but once you really get down to it and realize the mechanics are still floaty and the controls suck, you'll play it once and never touch it again. This game is only going to be as good as its community, and I think the truly creative levels will be buried beneath thousands of these types of popular spin offs

That quote was also thrown around for the first game :| LBP2 user created levels are not meant to eclipse the proper games and there are plenty of original levels for the first so Im sure users will create original content for LBP2.

I really hope they BAN the ''Free stuff, free stickers, free combo, free achievements blablabla'' levels when browsing for the best rated levels...it gets flooded with those nowadays.

Being that your complaints are the controls (which you can change and tweak as much as one can) and the "lack" of originality from community, both of which are weak complaints. Go make your own level if you think everyone is making crap, despite you just not looking for the more original levels. Man!

The controls can be completely re-mapped, and you can change the weight of the jumping.

The great levels will be overshadowed by all these poor spinoffs, But they're still great and with the good community that lbp has the great levels will be easy to find. On the beta forums no one even cares about that level, I don't think I've even seen it mentioned. Lockpicks maze, Are you in or out, and the caves/trials of new betah are the good levels.

It'll be great and score good here. It just annoys me when people insist that any XBLA game doesn't matter, because LBP2 will just recreate it.....e.g. Limbo/Super Meat Boy

Yeah, generally, when you give a bunch of people a map editor, the vast majority of the stuff they create is just a bunch of mediocre junk That's why LBP comes with a rating/heart system to help you find the games you want to play y'know kind of like videogame reviews help you determine whether you should play Big Rigs or Call of Duty.

Isnt that part of the fun of LBP? to make short and fun levels, many of which are shallow parodies of other games? It wouldnt be fun if you could re-create the entire experience of other games. Why would u want to when you could just..........play that game?

I do not understand anybody with the rationale that the game will be somehow less fun because some people will make crap levels. Just avoid those levels and use the rating system. Simple as that.

First off, the game will include a solid single player campaign. Second, the community for the first game is huge and has so many awesome levels that you will probably never have the time to play them all. Plus, keep in mind that these are free, user-created levels.

Lastly, of course there will be some crap developed by inexperienced level creators. But I am 100% positive that the awesomeness that the community creates will far outway the crap this time around. If you have played LBP1, you will know that there are so manyamazing creations that usually exceed the levels created by Media Molecule.

Once again, the rating system will help to keep people from loading up terrible levels.

Of course there's going to be a ton of crap levels, just like there are a ton of crap user-created levels for any game with user-created levels. You just have to go by word of mouth to find the inspired ones, just like with any PC game and its mods, and in this case the game even comes with a built-in rating system (although I still ended up asking around on the internet for really good levels in the first game). It's really not that hard to avoid the crap in LBP, so I doubt it'll be much harder in the sequel.

LBP will be fun, a lot of fun. At the end of the day I think it's shallow and pretty stupid to hate on a game that is fun. That said. A lot of the user stuff while fun won't live up to the stuff it's imitating. Sure the original levels might have cool ideas, but mechanically LBP was never sound. The platforming was always too floaty for its own good, and it even showed up in the good levels(also MM had a crappy story mode in terms of level design. **** was awful at times). That will most likely happen to LBP2 in the other genres. Mechanically holding back some of its better ideas. Now is that enough to condemn the game though? nah I'm sure it'll be fun as hell and I won't give a **** that Sony vs Marvel vs Capcom isn't as tight as Super Street Fighter 4 or Virtua Fighter 5.

They are IN ADDITION to the content you get on the disc that is made my Media Molecule. The first one was incredibly fun and had a lot of replayability. You're talking like all they do is give you a toolset and force you to make the game. The campaign in the first one was fantastic. Play it with 4 friends and try not to ever laugh. You just can't do it.

How is poor control a weak complaint?... I legitimately couldn't enjoy the first little big planet even though I was super psyched for it because of how terrible the platforming was. I mean if its a platformer with bad controls I dont care how crazy innovative the level designs or anything are its not going to hold up in the long run. Ive heard you can tweak the controls but ive yet to actually see that. And even if you can the default controls for this game should be GOOD.. not the crap that it was in the past game because im sure most levels are probably going to be made with the default controls and most arent going to bother to alter it. And Im sure they wont allow you to change the jump physics yourself in other peoples levels because that would in many cases ruin the level design because they were built around the physics it was .. well, built around. It was such a bad move to not just admit that the jumping was not good in the original game and try to make them better

How is Little Big Planet 2 supposed to be a Jack Of All trades type of game, sure it could be more so than you average game but it depends on how you look at it, but I do not think any game qualifies for a Jack Of All Trades to begin with. And with everything else your saying, what are you trying to get at, are you trying to convince people not to buy the game, this thread makes no sense to me.

I think you haven't done too much research on the game. Obviously, the majority of user based levels will be half-assed. That's what happens with everything that is user-based.

The good thing is, that just like in LBP one, the community directs you to the best created levels. There was some pretty genius user-created levels in the first game.

Plus it's not only levels now... it's games... movies... and basically any type of enterainment you can create with these tools.

As for floaty controls, you do know that the jump mechanics are custimizable this time around, right?

LBP1 has many thousands of amazing, original, levels as well as a very large number of levels that are inspired by other games, rather than copies of them. LBP2 is upping the ante in every way, allowing creative people to show their talents and make fun levels, and now games, for the entire community to enjoy. That's what LBP is the master of, and that's why it's one of the best games this gen.

I play lots of games once e.g. God of War games, Heavy Rain, Killzone 2, Uncharted games. So if I can get a good 20-30 hours out of LBP2 I'll be 2-3 times more than most of the other games. That's fine with me. :)

This. The PS3/LBP fanboys will deny that these are massive faults with the game. The first LBP sucked because of the absolutely awful controls. The second will suffer the same fate. The levels that I've seen that aren't platformers pretty much all have really bad gameplay, no matter how "creative" they are. The levels that are platformers have crappy controls therefore crappy gameplay. It was a terrible decision on Media Molecule's part to stick with the same default controls of the original. Even if it is possible to tweak the controls to actually be good(which I still haven't actually seen anyone do) very few people will actually do it. It's going to be very difficult to actually manage to find a user level in lbp2 with good platforming controls.

It's not "full" of parodies. That's the level creator, which just shows how far and amazing it is. If ANY other game could do that, you would be saying the same thing. There's plenty of the original levels, example being the Azure Palace from the first game.

You can't judge all the aspects of this game by the type of content users will create. It's the very notion of what is capable with this game that should be judged. Yes, there will probably be many many themed levels that won't be good, but that doesn't reflect the mechanics of the game. That's the skill level of the user. This has a great chance of being GOTY.
