silver benefits (free)

  1. create your gamer profile (ooooooh)
  2. create and maintain a friends list
  3. access xbox live marketplace including xbox live arcade, demos, and trailers
  4. join in special xbox live gold trial opportunities
  5. access massively multiplayer games (additional fees)

gold benefits ($50 a year)

  1. great online multiplayer gameplay (costs money only on 360)
  2. xboxlive marketplace: get both exclusives and early access content
  3. revolutionary trueskill matchmaking (what else other then halo has this?)
  4. enhanced gamer feedback
  5. enhanced friends list management (wtf there are differences?)

This came straight from the M$ live website, i think that silver should include multiplayer gaming, everywhere else this is free, as for the trueskill, if they added the option to join in every game using that, with a party, then it would definitly be something i'd be willing to pay for, party chat should be gold also. I just think multiplayer, the games should be free, but maybe add other features to a gold member ship. The only this will change though is if we stop paying... but anyways, do you think this is ok? what can they change/add/remove from these differences to make a gold member ship justifiable.

As a multiconsole player, there is a reason the 360's competitors have free internet.

Sure, somethings MS can nip u with, but other than minor things, Live truly is the best social experience on a console imo.

Required for netflix streaming. That alone makes it worth it imo.

well i what i was pointing out, that, every where playing online is free, why should microsoft be able to charge for this?? I mean if you like unreal 3 and buy it for 360, arent you kind of forced to pay for live, otherwise its a pretty crappy game.

but psn is better in some other areas too.

lag-less games except LBP... something most 360 games dont have. paying $39 a year i wonder where its all going.

This is a cool feature, but there is hardware out there that will do the same thing but without a monthly charge, I'm happy they added it, but your already paying for netflix, this feature would have been better to have software on marketplace instead of a recurring fee since you already have it from netflix.

It is unjustifiable. I don't see why anyyone would want to pay money just to play a game online. Shouldn't the enourmous cost of the games people buy at least cover online play? Anyway, there are too many better alternatives available to xbox live for me to even care.farrell2k
Almost 12 million people pay to play wow. Three times as much in fact. Honestly $4 a month is nothing. drive about 1/4 mile less everyday and its paid for. How can anyone complain about $4 a month? Makes no sense to me, unless you're just dirt poor.

I personally justify it by only buying the 12 month kit when it's on sale.

Yes, XBox Live is the best multiplayer experience around and it is that way because they charge for it so they have the funds to make it great without paying anything out of pocket. Don't expect a business to give you anything for free. Everyone charges for their services, just as it should be.

alot of the games like gears 2, is peer 2 peer, so it solely depends on the host's connections and everyone's elses, imo if this money is going to dedicated servers then it would be worth it since it would make the multiplayer experience good and a standard through all the games on live.

I look at it this way. I spend fifty dollars on games I play for two weeks and then shelf. I pay fifty dollars and get to enjoy an online community and "gold" benefits for one year. Fair enough for me. Am I saying I don't want it to be free? Absolutely not. That would be amazing. But I don't see paying for it as such a crime. To me, it's the best online service any of the consoles have to offer. Feel free to disagree.

That would be asking alot. You have about 10 people on live. The price would be far too low if you expect dedicated servers at all times.

99% of retail in the US is over-priced. Xbox Live is significant because SW is split into factions, those that oppose the 360 will express a hypocritical principal of consumer spending. In reality, a price is justifiable by your desire plus your financial capacity.

Look at cigarettes for example - complete waste of money. But does it matter?

I disagree with this though, people who buy a 360 might get forced into it if they couldnt afford the price of the ps3 or a pc right away, but still want to play online, this feature should be free. Its like getting going bowling but having to pay extra to play with people, your already there so your going to do it, but its an absurd cost.

What is justifiable? 1 dollar a month? how long is it before you become more apathetic and get such a self service importance that you dont think you have to pay for any thing....Money makes the world go round Microsoft is charging a stable and current market fee for a great service.

i agree with this, but its not standard with gold, without considering the cost of the system for now, if i buy cod waw and play online, with pc and ps3 its going to be free and almost the exact same experience as a 360 but to access the exact same game content its extra money (im not talking about extra features just the ability to play online). How is this reasonable, M$ just sectioned off game content that a dev made and made us pay extra for it even though we (when compared to pc/ps3) already paid for it.

make live less laggy. some games people lag and then who ever is playing has to go back to where the map is going to be. (cod 4 and waw) make it so feedback and reviews actually work. the star rating doesn't even work it makes nothing at all. everyone has a 5 star rating. a person can have something like bob gamer and if enough people report the name then he will have to change his name, even though it has nothing bad in it. content isn't even worth it. a lot of games that don't have content just have gamer pics and themes that cost around 200 point, thats a waist of just being there.
