Despite the vitriol Sony fannies have with GAAS, it looks like Sony is not on their side of the bench. Reminds me of no crossplay and games being only on PS4|5. 🤔

Heck yeah, more Sony games to PC. Next, Sony full third party company. Give us the Ghost game, you can keep the movies.

Welp, they have one of the best in the business, Bungie.. You know, the company Microsoft lost and got stuck with a so-so company that produced a so-so live service game called Halo Infinite 🤣

meh. As long as they don't center their entire business around it and keep up with the single player experiences then I'm good.

I still don't want a PS5, and this isn't helping. There is nothing about Sony's current course that excites me at all.

Suck GaaS, evildoers! I can see the Bungie games having some legs, but I don't see a lot of those games making it very far. It looks like the Pandemic is completely shifting Sony's business model since they can't really pump out PS5s right now. That sucks, but I guess they're backed into a corner

I refuse to believe Jim Ryan uses that garbage PS5 headset.

Well, I refuse to believe Jim Ryan, period. But that’s a different story…

And this is the issue. I think that the ps will still be successful going this route, but if they think that they’ll be able to go down this path, and replicate the ps2/ps4 success, then they have a rude awakening coming.

Planning like one ambitious GaaS at a time trying to see what sticks and seeing what can gain momentum is one thing, trying to plan and launch several seems like a recipe for disaster, that's like what Square Enix tried, Ubisoft too and they had to keep working to support their games and couldn't abandon them. Sony hasn't shown a record that shows they could commit like that. They're going to have to commit to supporting their floundering projects too because if they're to pursue this route then they can't get any reputation for abandoning the game that don't meet their expectations, or people won't forget getting burned and be hesitant to jump on the next thing.

Honestly with more GaaS titles failing but the ones that succeed do quite well, it would be easier to just let third parties take the risk and take their 30% of the revenues they generate when the next phenomenal GTA V Online or Fortnite or whatever comes along.

*sigh* well that's a pity. understandable. GAAS is the new hotness so not surprising (Sony have hinted they will be going this direction before the PS5 even released). right up there with blockchain and NFTs. but a pity all the same.

I'm not quite sure how anyone does multiplayer anymore without being a GaaS game. Seriously, how does one create a successful and lasting multiplayer game without being a GaaS game?

Well I am glad they are going to bring games to PC, but that sort of reeks of desperation after years of being "exclusive".

Not stoked about the emphasis on GaaS, but then again I've been playing MMO's for quite some time now so I can't be too critical as they are the most GaaS model of game out there.

I love a lot of live service and online multiplayer games, this is a good thing for me. I've been saying for years that SONY needs more multiplayer games. Now hopefully at least a few of them are good... and I really hope one of them is SOCOM.

It's not like they are just throwing the single player campaign games away, they are now just working on both again.. after years of not having much on the multiplayer side of things.

The concern is the slow moving away from single player games with a successful live service game. Money directs these companies.

Sure man I get that, but for me personally it's a good thing. I do like my open world campaigns and RPG's, but I just don't see SONY slacking off on those (I actually think they need to double down on those types of games as well).

With some new studios (mostly on the multiplayer side of things) I feel as though they know multiplayer games and live service games have been on fire recently. As someone who plays with a group of friends and enjoys the social interaction time with others while in game this is a positive development for me. I do understand many people's fear that SONY might just forget about them and chase the money, but I sincerely hope that SONY has finally pulled their head from their ass and stopped smelling their own farts... which is probably wishful thinking.

It seems as though it happens about every other generation now since the PS2. The PS3 felt like a beta for the PS4, and I must say although I do enjoy my PS5 it feels very incomplete and maybe as if they were actually just testing the waters for the PS6. I guess only time will tell, but it has a distinct PS3 feel to me where as the PS4 just felt on point. Maybe that's just me though.

i got to agree with u but MS is so far ahead of sony on this and the profit from these games are breathtaking. Sony NEEDS to step up on this front. currently ms has fallout 76, gears hive jumpers, ESO, SoT, and Halo the MCC/Halo inf. almost forgot Forza. Sony current have none with Destiny to be their first once the deal goes thru. MS with be getting CDWZ and WoW once their deal goes thru. they can't let MS run away with it

If they care about GaaS, then why did they let go of SOE who made EverQuest? They are currently known as Daybreak Games nowadays.

@shellcase86: That's a fair question. It's easy to sit back and throw stones, but what if I could actually change it...

This will be a mix of hope and fantasy

#1. Stop producing Live Service/GaaS titles

Personally, I'm just not a fan of this model. I have a similar feeling to Souls games. Great games, but the frequency was just too much for me. It's hard to miss something that never goes away. On the other hand, it seems to have turned a few bad launches around, so I don't know. But there is no way they're giving up these cash cows.

#2 Better support their legacy titles

I'm still waiting to see what comes of their ps+ rebranding (nothing special so far), but currently I'm not hopeful. Maybe they're holding the good stuff for later, but this launch seems pretty anemic. I mean, who doesn't want to play Jumping Flash and Fantavision? There needs to be every possible game, and it shouldn't cycle. On top of that, how many times do we have to ask for Socom, Twisted Metal, Jet Moto, etc? Depending on the property, they should have a new entry every generation. They don't have to be $200 million dollar productions, but they also shouldn't just be left to rot on the vine.

#3 Backwards compatibility/past purchases

Just copy Xbox. Pop the disc in, download the updated version, play. If you can add trophies... wonderful.

#4 Put more focus on multiplayer/LAN

We still hook up Xboxes every couple months for Halo CE lans. It's an experience that has never been topped by anything online...at least for me. You of course still need online, but they have completely ignored local gaming for years, and that needs to stop. But it won't.

There's probably more, but whatever. It's not like any of this will actually happen. I bet some of this I'm wrong on, and might soften if I could frame it differently in mind, but right now, I don't like what they have to offer. And to be fair, this started last gen. It was the first time I struggled to find games I enjoyed on a Sony console. So this isn't new, and it doesn't seem to be getting better.
