Now you gotta pay for upgrades that speed up leveling and unlocks like in AC Unity or as I've heard, in Deus Ex Mankind Divided.

I understand extra content like maps or DLC's aren't free like they used to because of the man-hours needed to produce them but things like leveling faster shouldn't be paid. They are literally cheat codes. Hell there are even trainers and save files one can find online to level up faster.

Discuss away.

I guess if people want to buy cheat codes, they should be able to buy cheat codes. I think the closest thing ive bought to that is my Falco Amiibo. It gave me a new Skin and double damage but half defense. But he unlocks content in many games, not just one. Plus i can sell, trade, gift, or share him which is cool.

Yeah its funny how they think we are all that stupid since we can just use trainers or find our own cheats with cheat engine.

I don't cheat too often in single player games unless it makes it more fun. Sometimes its great though.

lol at those comparing gamegenie/gameshark or bookguides to what companies are doing to individual games. I remember using cheat sites in the 90s. You could always look up new games and input the codes in the genie/shark.

I remember there were hotlines you could call in and ask for help. Also I remember using game genie/shark on Street Fighter 2 and it made that game pretty nuts, you could keep on upper cutting up the screen until you start showing up at the bottom of the screen then go back up again. Fun times.

AC Unity's microtransactions bought you hack points to use in place of in game currency, but gear was still locked out if you didn't meet base requirement to unlock their availability, making it pretty pointless to even bother.

If devs want to exploit these people, I say let them.

Last time i cared about cheats, i was 12y old. Why spend $60 on a game to run through the thing with 'god mode' On? Instead of making the games easier, i make em as hard as possible by playing on the hardest difficulty available.

@silversix_: you are correct. However, some cheats are pure fun, especially in games like GTA or Uncharted e.g. fat drake. Though last time I used a cheat code was in era of PS2.

I guess that's another +1 to PC gaming, where trainers and console commands for single player games are easily found.

This took a google search and one click to find https://www.wemod.com/trainers/153/deus-ex-mankind-divided-trainer(I have no idea who this site belongs to and have never used them, if you're going to download a trainer from them be sure to scan it before you run it)

I used to love the Action Replay discs during the ps2 era, you had to buy the disc but it had thousands of cheats for hundreds of games on it was awesome.

I used it to get all of the licences and maximum cash in gt4.

Nothing beats the JRPgs where you pay like a dollar to get a weapon stronger than anything else in the game which is equipable right away xD Why play a game, if you can rush it? ^^

Indie games should make more use of this gap between what the gamers want and what the gamers get in AAA gaming.

At least Rockstars still remembers what cheat codes are since GTAV has them, when it comes to cheats in GTA games, they make the single player more fun and ridiculous at the same time. People these days now hate cheat codes, despite you maybe using them just single player only, people moan someone is cheating and not playing the game fair.

GameShark, Action Replay was a cool device to cheat your way into the games during PS2, Xbox, GameCube eras, just for fun guys, nothing more/less.

Listening to frustrated gamers yelling to their games is really ****** annoying, especially if it's 3 am and you have to got to work in a couple of hours.

I remember when a pack of M&Ms was a quarter.

Nobody HAS to pay for the praxis quits in Deus Ex. You can earn them just like always, by playing the game. Its a free market system, we live in. They are free to sell these types of DLC and we are free to buy or not buy. If you feel it shouldn't be used, do not use them. But you have no right to dictate that to or for others.

But cheat codes were never "free." You either had to buy the magazine they were in, buy a game genie or call a hotline.

Thank god for cheat engine/mods/trainers.

I remember when pretty much every game on PC had access to the console & you could do whatever you want (like witcher 3). Unfortunately that rarely happens anymore.

Sometimes I'm really short on time & like to speed up time consuming processes/unlocks in games. Thankfully it's still possible through.

I cheated all the time in the 90's. Jediwannabe1, red5, erimajh, racconking, Up, down, left, right, A, B, and so on, are permanently embedded in my brain, and I never had to spend a cent to learn or use any of them. The only reason I ever bought a Game Genie was so I could get past region locks.

Yeah, you had to buy one genie or shark for one system, not one game. And it depends with guides, some were for several games and others are more specific including walkthroughs. You could at least collect guides. Like I wrote, I used the net. And a lot of games also had cheat codes that could be used without one of those devices. It's just a cash grab now.

@darklight4: Yeah this is the sad part of the gaming world we are now ... at least some games still does it a little ... like in MK X there is some kostumes that can only be unlock by playing the game various mode or winning online ... buying the ridiculous 20$ unlock the krypt won't give you some kostumes.
