Yeah, that was a bad thing to say. However, it was a difficult proposition for him, which they should have prepared for. We assume (through known facts) that Sony cannot afford to drop the price right now.
[QUOTE="desmondsultanas"]I just heard an interview with him on spike and during the interview he was asked, "what about that monkey on the wall..... the PS3 price drop"? Jack hesitated for a second and said, "Well after showing you all that great new stuff we hope you'll work extra hard and put your hard earned dollars towards it" Sony still hasnt learned their lesson repeating the same lines as crazy Ken back in 2005ChuteboxIt's going to come soon, he's just avoiding the answer. TGS would be the best time in my book. Right before the fall season when a slew of gaming goodness comes out.
TGS they will announce PS3 Slim and then be able to sell a fair amount for the holidays which will give them a huge boost and momentum. Theyre trying to clear stock right now from other PS3's.Solid_Max13Yeah I believe they will save this last piece for TGS. There was enough ownage at E3 with Final Fantasy XIV.
He right... People still don't get it. For what your getting its really cheap.
399 for a PS3 is cheap as dirt. Sony Bluray players are 312 and they take ages to load a damn BluRay compared to the ps3.
Your getting the gaming component of the ps3 for 100 BluRay is the future of media.
Streaming 1080p? What are you stupid? It's possible but 90% of gamers dont have the bandwith for that.
PS3 is a good price. People complain to much the system is really a deal.
It's a good price, as it offers you the most features out of all consoles. But it's still relatively expensive compared to other consoles and people a lot of people don't need Blu-ray. See what I'm saying? He right... People still don't get it. For what your getting its really cheap.

He really said that? That's about as bad as Bush saying that working 2-3 jobs is patriotic and very american.
well putting a price drop now, when there are hardly any games coming out along wiith being the weakest months of the year for sales, would be a bad idea for a price drop. Also giving any clue that there will be a future price drop is a horrible business move because it would kill sales till the price drop
The things he says causes massive lulz. ie: "so and so is only possible on PS3"and "we don't make games for people in nursing homes". It's obvious that he doesn't play games and has people script dialog for him. He makes Reggie look like a road-scholar.Jack's 100% right.

Can anyone else confirm this? That's the exact same thing Ken Kutaragi said when PS3 launched...I'm sensing a joke thread here. :|
Guess he didint have a straight answer. So he thought "what would KAZ do?". Seriously though I think they are going to give one near holidays.
whenever i want to buy something expensive, either i buy it and take the most out of it without complaining or else i take a bit more time, save up money and buy it..
In a way Jack Tretton is right, PS3 is a great package and comes at a relatively 'decent' price, sure if you just consider PS3 as a gaming console only (in which it is used primarily & ONLY) for gaming it is expensive compared to competition..
However I dont understand all he complaints and bashing from people, you want a PS3 to enjoy its exclusives & many other features you buy it (23 million people did that), you want a PS3 but cannot afford it atm, you have 2 options, wait till a further price-cut or else save up the extra money and get it before..
People save that extra money for everything in life clothing, appliances, cars, houses, mobile phones, accessories in order to get better branded stuff which are better in quality or else meet their tastes, so why is it different when it comes to consoles..
You have a $250 budget for a console?? you have an option with Wii & 360, you have a $400 budget you can get a PS3, you have $1000 you can get a gaming PC... its simple... you want them all ?? you work & save enough money for all of them
He could have just said "We're not ready to talk about that right now" or "I can't discuss that right now" or even "we're looking into it, thats all I can say about it right now".
Don't tell people to work harder :|. As if they were slacking until they came across the PS3 in a shop window.

Oh god not the particular set of circumstances value PR spin aggain. Which basicly mean we're losing money on each console sold we can't cut the price.

When was the first price drop? Gutting the original PS3 functions does not = a price drop.
They can't drop the price, there is nothing left to remove and it still be a ps3.

Not surprising at all. It's a real shame, but it's life.
Jack's 100% right.

Yes, why not beliitle any American struggling right now. Everyone wants to wprk harder in a barren job market to get a PS3. He should be fired and on unemployment for that comment...
A horrible answer to a good question. Oh, Sony!CleanPlayer

I don't know if they're necessarily loving it, but they're understanding that when you're already selling a product at a huge loss, you can't really afford to drop the price whenever people start asking you to.

But you can come up with a better response then 'just work harder' in a shrinking job market. He's just rubbing it in the faces of the people suffering right now...

But unfortunately thats life, people can afford things while not others... it applies to me and the billions of other people who happen not to be multi-millionaires..
People like us have to work hard and try to utilise the money earned for the important stuff (bills, food, health related stuff etc etc)and if we manage to save that something extra spend it on whatever we're interested in (holidays, hobbies, going out etc etc)...
So the problem is not PS3's price tag, cause someone into gaming has a cheaper alternative which comes in the form of other systems, the problem is when people make a huge fuss about it... Oh no PS3 is too expensive, SONY should announce a price-cut.. thats not how it works unfortunately.. You want a PS3, you work, you save money and when you afford a PS3 you go buy one.. (i did that and millions of othersdid that too)..
I'd love a FERRARI but cannot afford it, so you expect me to go at Maranello, Italy and ask Ferrari's boss, 'Hey listen your models cost too much and i want one so please make sure to reduce the 360 Modena model price to the same price as the Honda Civic so i can afford it...'

And why would they put do a price drop right now when there console is selling good for the price it has now. Later on towards TGS thats when more of bigger game are coming out. Price drop+u2 and AC2 will help sell the system. That was a stupid thing to say but he probably didn't really expect that question.moose_knucklerI agree, he probably regretted saying it afterward. Seriously, he's just a human being. Human beings are allowed to make mistakes. I dont think Jack is arrogant, at least anymore. He seems to have a pretty good sense of humor, even poking fun of the Hannah Montanna PSP bundle, the leaked PSP Go news, and how nervous he is at E3. I like Jack, he's pretty much the only one from Sony I dont mind listening to.

No he's not. Dude, it was a flubbed answer, I'm sure if he had time to think about it he would have came up with something better, typical of Sony PR like, "we've devised a plan for the year that we think is great, blah blah blah". No way he was being malicious here to all those suffering in the job market, especially considering alot of Sony employees have been victim of this shrinkage as well. Please Log In to post.
