I bought Nintendo stock just before the Wii release and made a shed load.
Bout some 3 days before E3 last year aswell and made 130 quid before selling it a week after E3.
LOL @ people who mock Pachter because everyone else does, without actually thinking about what he's saying or why he said it. I don't agree with him here, because the Wii has no business being a COD machine and competing directly with 360, but it's not an invalid argument.Cherokee_Jack
dude... patcher said the ps3 had better graphics than a high end pc.

I know he's said some stupid things, but I just hate that people literally do not even look at anything but the headline when someone posts a Pachter story. And then they usually say he should be fired or something, when they probably have no idea what his actual job entails or how he performs at it.
He's actually a pretty cool guy, if you watch some of the videos Giant Bomb has done with him.

This isn't jumping on the bandwagon, this guy has been wrong with about nearly everything about the Wii. He seems like a paid shill for Sony and Microsoft to put it mildly and like the rest of the "brilliant" analysts also failed to predict the success of the Wii when it was about to launch.

Um...I believe he's the same guy that said Xbox Live would never succeed. Anyway I take anything he says with a grain of salt.

Because most of the time even when they look it's some really outlandish claim proven false within in a matter of months. Now I don't mind an analyst getting a few here and there wrong. it's part of the job.. but it seems this dude gets EVERYTHING wrong.
So when a crazy man who sits on the side of your college shouts "The sky is made of golf" and other nonsense for years, you eventualy stop listening. If you replace crazy man with patcher and "The sky is made of golf" with "I have a post to get me hits on this website", then you have my opinion.
Pachter is right WAY MORE than he is wrong. We hear nothing of the positives because it isnt news. That kind of skews our opinions of him. He has been employed by Webush Morgan for YEARS, they pay him millions for good reason. Lets pay attention to the real world for a bit. navyguy21
Which major predication has he been correct? We never hear about when he is wrong either, we normally just hear his predication and in a couple months we find out that's he's wrong. No one makes an article "Patcher is wrong!!!!!!!!" for us to read.
Okay well I happen to love Pachter and I do think he's a very intelligent and thoughtful man with great and knowledgeable insight. That being said I completely disagree with him on this point. or more accurately I hope he's wrong. I think Nintendo's fine. Yes they should reveal the next conmsole very very spoon, but I do believe that whenever they do it it will still make money no matter what. I don't believe there's a "too late" for Nintenod. They print money. They are gods in this industry. They are fine :)

Are you.... patcher? :o
He's saying he's getting paid and 75% of this board is comprised of arrogant teenagers.Which sounds like quite the patcher statement! He got any proof of that? According to gamespot's info the average person on this site is 23! Secondly whether he has a job or not doesn't change the fact he is wrong quite a bit of the time.

There's a small number of them and a huge desire to be one, so he'd be gone if his higher-ups didn't like the way he does his job.

He correctly predicted the 3DS' price at last year's E3. The only reason I remember this is because my reaction was "Its not gonna be 249.99, you silly billy! Its Nintendo!". Several months later the price gets announced and I was like 0_0 just because pachter got it right :lol:He correctly predicted the 3DS' price at last year's E3. I would think predicting new hardware prices is pretty major. And it was at E3 right after it got unveiled when most were still thinking that Nintendo wouldn't charge so high for a handheld.

The price range was always going to be $250 - $300, after they confirmed the Japanese price. I don't know when he predicted the price, but from seeing the Japanese price and comparing to the Wii it was pointing to $250.

I don't which the is the point I made. People keep posting crap with nothing to base it on. Patcher is a professional who gets paid for his work.Uh... I don't think Nintendo would have found any success in launching a console to an even or slightly superior specification to the Xbox 360, touting a "Live" like service in trying to go after the COD gamer market. What would their incentive be to move off of the 360 to the Nintendo's service if Nintendo is simply trying to offer a "me too" service? Pachter's statements here do not make good business sense. Any hardware launch has to have a hook, something new that differentiates it from what presently exists. Total fail on Pachter's part here. Nintendo is likely in working on that something new that surpasses what the Wii did. RenegadeSynapseVery much so according to Iwata.
Man, what an article. He is very short sighted for a person of his profession, not to mention completely out of touch with gamers interests. I'm sure he must be good at something to maintain his status as a well known analyst, but his understanding of this industry is extremely limited..... as he proves time and time again.
I still remember when he was always barking about a Wii HD. He seriously thought that displaying Wii games at a 1080p resolution would be a good step forward for Nintendo and bring in "hardcore" gamers lol. Displaying low poly geometry, low texture resolution games with no AA in HD does not make a game look any better and in some cases it can look worse by making visual shortcomings that much more noticeable. Beyond that, you aren't going to tap into some market in any meaningful way by displaying games in 1080p if that particular market isn't interested in those games in the first place. A guy that sits on Live all day playing CoD and GeoW isn't going to suddenly fall in love with SMG simply because there are more pixels on screen.... but he was seriously expecting Nintendo to do that for a couple of years.
Ignorant to how the technology works and oblivious to how gamers think. Regarding this industry, it seems hes only correct when its a captain obvious moment. "Hey guys, I think CoD will sell a **** load this year!" That the type of brilliant prediction he is known for.
As for the article, I do agree that Nintendo has been shooting themselves in the foot by treating online as an after thought. Everyone knows this though. Its nothing new. And any idiot would have guessed that MS and Sony would jump on board with peripherals after witnessing the success of the Wii. Its not as if Nintendo didnt know this. Any time a game company comes out with something massively successful the others follow suit, or at least try.
Pachters biggest mistake in regard to this article is acting like he knows what Nintendos future plans are.
