It's just a bullet point for the back of the box. Games with huge numbers of players usually aren't very fun. FPS is best with 16 or less.

Not really it just depends on if that game was built to have that high amount of players. Planetside had hundreds of people fighting at once in the same area and was a great game, but on the otherside if you had Gears with 16vs16 or higher you would have a pretty horrible and unorganized game. It just depends on the games mechanics and whether they catered to having that high of a player count.

The 360 can do as many as the developers wants. It all comes down to how good the net code is written and if they developers are willing to pay to have their own server.

Meaning the 360 Net Code has to be J Wizz himself.

16 I think is the ideal amount for X360. Perfect Dark had 24 but it was lagfest. Mainly because it is built on a peer-peer network.

How is this a bad thing if the devs design the online portion well? Not like you can't tweak the settings (Guessing it will follow the first) and set a max of 16 players if you want. Pretty much just damage control by a lot in here.

PS3 (hell, ALL CONSOLE) gamers are also excited that they have more to play than just FPS and RTS games.

That right...I went there.

they should make it so you go into the game as a group of 8 or so, and your squad has an objective and say they cant leave a certain part of the map, so you will have3 squads on your team in different parts of the map protecting their base or something like that. that way its not all clustered and feels more like a battle. they did say the game even with 60 people was to feel more like a battle than a fragfest

um yes it is, given the game type that supports such numbers.

you wont see a tennis game supporting 150 slots...

Its only logical for a bf2 style game to support more and more players, hence BF3 which will support 80slots.

the game he is referring to on PC is Joint Ops which is a bf2-style game with massive maps and vehicles, and it ran perfectly well with 150 and acheived massive battles no other game could render at the time.

I'l take Battlefields over Halo , Console TF2 , CoD4 anyday.

When you play battlefield2 for the firts time , the game is insanely boring because your alone with 60 players shooting from everywhere ..

But when you have your squad of 6 players going throught the battlefield together , now that make it awsome .

That squad thing is what Resistance isnt going to do , and its why its gonna suck !

you have a point, its fun to have 2 small teams, but this 60 player online thing is huge for consoles. Its great! they are making the maps so youmust use cover so it will not just be run and gun madness. it will be like a small war. plus now if one person does really bad it will not matter, whilst in those 6v6 games one person doing bad really makes a difference, and makes the noob look really silly.

Tell you what, I would hate to be at the bottom of a 60 player scoreboard!!!!

exactly, the style of game that supports such high numbers are usually instant spawn or fixed-time spawn games. you dont have to wait for the round to end LOL! i guess he's thinking about counterstrike with 150 players

For a non BF style game. 32 Max is the magic number.

For a BF style game, huge numbers are fine as long as they space it out and give plenty of mobility/tactical strategies.

Joint Opperations supports 150 players per map and it is awsome. It is like a war. The map is so big 32 players would be boring. More people equal bigger maps and vehical transportation.

The reason the PS3 can support 60 players online is because Sony pays for some great dedicated servers, it's hard for a 360 game to do that, because the online games are usually peer to peer. It is true that only first party games on the PS3 use dedicated servers, and none of the 3rd party...
