Prime 3 is one of the most innovative games this gen.

Not only was it way more innovative than the first Metroid Prime, which was innovative in it's own right, but it added grapple hook on the nunchuck and switches and levers on the Wii remote.

I seriously doubt Metroid Other M will be anywhere near as good as Prime 3, then again Prime 3 deserved a 9.5 and was robbed just because of one mission the reviewer didn't like towards the endgame. (admitted)

What did you think was the most innovative game this generation?

Metriod prime 3 was the worst metroid in my opinion, have you played the original snes metroid or the one on nes???????much better than the 3d metroids.

Besides the excellent use of motion controls, there wasn't anything innovative in MP3. Practically everything else was already done before in MP1 or 2.

I'd say Mario Galaxy rather so than MP3. I agree though that MP3 was underrated on GS.

MP was way more innovative than 3. But I agree 8.5 is way too low for it.

i agree that MP3 was one of the best games so far..

but most innovative i dont know..

MP3 uses the gesturebased motion controlls very well.. but it is not the first game to do it.

Mp3 also uses FPS controls on the wii to perfection. but there were games that did it beforehand..

well the structure of the game changed a lot. it wasnt a planet that you had to explore but several planets with seperate unique structures that were connected by the gunship of samus and the ability to fly between the planets freely was quite refreshing. of course games like Castlevania Portrait of Ruin also applied this formula to metroidvania gaming so it cant be called all that innovative

MP3 is slightly better then MP2 (which was excellent but way to complicated and hard. i doubt that 30% of the owners actually played the game through competion ) and a lot better then MP Hunters... Super Metroid is considered one of the best games of all times so saying that it is worse then that game is a given..

Robbed? Nah. Prime 3 had the worst boss fights of the series by far. Scoring in the 8 range was exactly what it should have gotten. That being said, what was so innovative? It used motion controls to do things Metroid had, generally speaking, already done. Woohoo? :?

To be honest its like playing Killzone 2 and when you are told to turn valves with the sixaxis you scream 'OMG THE INNOVATION I AM TURNING MY CONTROLLER TO TURN A HANDLE ON SCREEN'

That's actually a great example since more often than not, I found myself more annoyed than impressed by the motion controls in each game.

Yeah pretty much. Most of the core game is the same as the other two, which isn't a bad thing. The new controls (using the IR pointer) really made me happy. I love that control scheme a lot, also glad I got the Trilogy for it. I can't play it with the gamecube controller anymore, the Wiimote pointer control's just feel better to me.

I don't know if I would call it the most innovative, since in my opinion it still looks like a GC game with motion controlls. Having said that, because of the motion controls MP3 is by far my favorite of the MP series. The controls just work so amazingly well it was the closest you could get to having keyboard and mouse on consoles.

My only beef with MP3 is that the controls worked so well the game was almost tooeasy.

There was very little that was innovative in Corruption. It felt extremely similar to MP1 and Echos. I don't consider the added motion controls and touched up graphics "innovative."

It was far less innovative than either Prime and Echoes. The aiming with the c-stick was replaced with a IR sensor, the actions you described (grapple beam) was replaced with a more complicated and far buggier/less reliable version of a button press and the game was FAR more linear and action-oriented than the previous two games. If anything, it was a blight on the Prime series (despite it being a polished and well-made game).

As for "most innovative" games this gen, I'd probably go with Mirror's Edge (for adding a whole new depth to movement in first person), STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl (for creating an actual, living world) and Excite Truck (for actually making analogue stick steering in racing games obsolete, and less intuitive).

wait.. i agree with prime but.. echoes..? echoes uses the same control scheme of prime and has no innovation at all. its just Prime with better graphics and more content.. corruption is a lot more innovative then echoes at least.. and the grapple beam is actually better then the iterations in Prime and echoes because it can be used for ripping of shields or overcharging/draining the enemy etc (combat) while the grapple beam in Prime and Echoes was only used for platforming..

Metroid Prime 1 was the most innovative.

going from 2D to such a faithful recreation of the series in 3D is a monster task that was done perfectly.

Echoes had amazing bosses and a narrative that added to the Metroid universe (as well as all the Luminoth technology making for unique weapons and gadgets). The grapple beams function was improved, but it didn't need the nunchuk waggle to work. That was a function of added gameplay, not added controls. And that doesn't make up for the highly linear nature and action-focused structure. There was no "adventure" in Corruption... it was just an illusion of non-linearity as you were pushed through the storyline to each separate planet.

Echoes is awesome, it's my favorite of the Metroid Prime games, just barely edging out the first game

if i had to rank 'em

  1. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
  2. Metroid Prime
  3. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Corruption was still decent, but they did go a little too much for the action-oriented

that said, i still enjoyed it, more-so than a lot of fps this gen

Usually innovation is followed by imitators. While Gears of War was not the first game to have a working cover system, there is no doubt that after it's apperance on consoles many other games were quick to implement the same feature into all their third person shooters. I'd say GeOW was innovative in that way. I'd also say Braid was innovative as well.

Metroid Prime 1 was more innovative than Metroid Prime 3.

Metroid Prime 3 completely lost the "WOW!"-factor that the first one had.

I really enjoyed it though and I do have to give it credit for being the only Wii game with good console FPS controls.

Eh, the game was decent but aside from some forgettable motion controls it was like Metroid Prime lite. It had the core elements of a Prime game, but it seemed to miss the point completely. It's not my first candidate for a "truly innovative" game.

Metroid Prime 3 is a great game and one of the bests of the Wii, I agree that it doesn't deserve that score but I also don't think it is the best Metroid game. I have yet to play Super Metroid but in the Prime series it is the first one the best of the trilogy because it was fresh when they released it. Echoes is a good game too but it uses almost the same formula as the first one and MP3 the only difference is that it uses the Wiimote (although it is the best First Person game on the Wii).

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is one of my favorite games this generation period. I've yet to beat the first two yet, but it's on my to-do list. I am playing through MP1 right now.

Everything in MP3 was amazing. The worlds, the music, the characters, etc. I can't vouch for Aether, but Tallon IV so far doesn't have as much personality as Bryyo and Elysia do. I'm also only a quarter of the way through MP1 so I can't rule it out just yet. As for the characters, Rundas is one of the most badass hunters in the entire series. His battle music is badass as well. That brings me to the music. The music in this game really brings the environments to life. Here are some great examples...

Elysia

Bryyo

Those are just a few of the great pieces in MP3. All of this coupled with the excellently written Lore which only gives the worlds that much more personality, makes MP3 one amazing game.

One that was barely innovation, I mean. If anything you can give it props for its controls. Second. Metroid Prime 3 was the WORST of the prime games and barely Metroid at times. Great game in its own right, but Other M doesn't have to do all that much to really be more impressive than prime 3.

objection to excite truck. The problem with that game is it's so loose and arcadey. I don't know how the motion controls would work in a Forza a game that isn't as loose and as free as Excite Truck. That said duel analog was always inferior to those kickass(but way too expensive) wheels anyway :D

*shrugs* I'll take a wheel over either any day when it comes to anything beyond arcade racers. But for arcade racers, it definitely is superior and more intuitive. Though, the Wiimote kind of sucks when it comes to control layout when put on its side.

Metroid Prime 3 was the shortest and the easiest of the Prime series. It removed elements from the first 2 that made the Prime series really stand out in the right of being an FPS (or FPA, whatever you want to call it.) It's controls were among the best the Wii offers even today. However, I really don't see the innovation. The grapple beam isn't innovative, neither is swinging the nunchuk forward. I don't see what's innovative about Mp3.

Personally, I though MP3 was by far the worst in the series.

The 1st one blew my mind, and I loved the second one, but they cut out much of the heavy exploration elements in the 3rd one and made it more of a straightforward generic shooter. MP3 was a let down. Taking away so many elements that made the 1st one a classic and addingnew control aspectshardly makes it some spectacular piece of innovation.

tc you gotta be joking ,its just a fps been there done that

the most innovative game this gen is obviously super paper mario can you name another game that you can switch from 3d view to 2d view (dont even try gta cause thats over headview)

and to 2nd poster you cant compare a fps to a action side scroller

2 totally different formulas
