I've looked at both and each has a few exceptional games. So I've decided to ask for an opinion of those who own or have played both. Which do you play more/like better? I can afford one but not both. Fanboyism is unwelcome. Thanks for all honest and relevant responses.

The folks who go off saying the psp is god awful or say somthing amazingly negative about it never used one, or is a fanboy. PSP is a great system, it doesnt have as many good games as DS but its still great. If you enjoy shooters and other games like that than PSP is for you. If you like rpgs and what not than go with DS. Both are great, but it depends on what YOU like, not what others like.

It really depends what type of games you are into, and what other features you like.  I personally enjoy my psp more than my bro's ds just because psp suits a more mature console gamer, and has lots of great multimedia features.  I use my psp as an mp3 players as well.  I enjoy the games on ds but i do tire of the simplicity of games on nintendo platforms.  It just appeals to a different audience.  I think the ds is innovative and easy to enjoy, but I love having the best tech I can get, the most I can get with one platform.  Then again psp's library is full of crappy ports and not as many original games, although Crush looks pretty cool.  If you have a ps3 too, then you get the added bonus of remote play especially with the recent firmware upgrades that basically allow you to stream media from your ps3 to your psp anywhere with wifi or even better stream stuff from your pc using media server thru ps3 onto your psp thus making transferring files or dealing with memory issues largely non-existent because you usually can store more a pc than anywhere else and with this you don't need to copy it.  I haven't tried it out, but its a pretty sweet feature.

Flip a coin to decide and buy reccomended software for either platform that you flipped. Entertainment will follow after you picked up said software.

You get more bang for your buck buying the PSP when it comes to hardware especially with the price drop. But, you will have more fun with the DS since it has a bigger library.

Honestly... I play the DS more. There's pluses and minuses but what I think the deal breaker is for PSP is that there really aren't enough games out I like... yet. In addition, the poor battery life is irksome. That isn't to say I don't love it. I can't WAIT for this year's lineup. But again, telling you from my personal experience, I use the DS almost five times as much.

If you missed out on the GBA, then go for DS. You can play all of those great games you missed out on, plus the awesome DS lineup.

Have both and like both.

Easiest way to decide is check the top 20 or so games for each and see which one appeal more to you.  If you're especially into sports/racing games you should head for the PSP.  If not probly head for the DS.

Personally I own both, and I enjoy my PSP.  But that's just me.

My advice would be to to browse through the top games in the DS and PSP sections of this website, and see which portable has more games that interest you.

It depends what type of gamer you are and how you purchase games.
I love the DS because

1) Its fun

2) It has 3 bright settings

3) Nintendo warranty and fix policy is awsome! They'll replace it if there is even ONE pixel stuck, as compared to PSP where you need FIVE, and ALL IN THE SAME QUADRANT. And you still have to argue.

4) If you buy used games, DS rocks because you can play a ton of really good GBA games cheap.

But if you love hi-res graphics and a handheld multimedia device, go for PSP

Get the one with the most games you want.

I chose the DS over the PSP because of games like Hotel Dusk, EBA, etc., and because it can play GBA games, too.

However, if you want the BEST portable, get the GBA -- it can play GBC games, and the GBC has some really great games. :P

You can hook up your PSP to a PS3 driving game and use it as a REAR VIEW MIRROR! WOW!

The DS is designed around playing handheld games designed for handheld gaming. The PSP is designed around playing console style games on a handheld as well as having many multimedia features.

Take a look at some of the unique titles on each and decide for yourself which interests you more. Elite Beat Agents is one of the best titles on the DS.

PSP is great, really great, and the best part is that it's not expensive now!!!!
however the DS is something else, if you want both old and new games trust me, you will find it here, but not on the PSP.

Well since you haven't had a portable since the GBC, get a DS. There are plenty of great games out for it already, more coming out this year, and there are so many great GBA games you've missed out on.

Really I'm not going to buy a game I could play on my console/comp but I like being able to have music/vids; I wouldn't watch movies on a portable.I think there's a way to get a DS to store music/vids. If so they're pretty much feature for feature

that's kinda true, i never tried putting vids or music on my PSP but i think you will need a mem card, it's not that expensive, and you can get some really good space out of them.
and i wasn't just talking about the fact of how DS does it as in the add on way, i'm talking about the quality, it's nowhere near as good as the PSP's.
the PSP's graphics are also much better than the DS's, if your into that kind of thing.
seriously, you can't go wrong either way :D

The DS is awesome.  The PSP is good.  If you already have an MP3 player DS hands down.  If you don't, still go for the DS (PS my friend is a very big Sony fanboy and he sold his PSP.)
