Ive been away from the gaming world for a while now, after playing a few shooters this weekend I realized I had to get back into. I used to play CS for the PC and was quite good, I got up to cal-im. I have tried coming back a few times, but could never get into it. Basically, I want the system with the FPS games. Where there focus is on multi-player competition (leagues set up, matches, etc..). First person mode is fun, but Id rather go against another person. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Note: I have posted this in two forums before I realized it should have gone in this section (long week and I just smoked)...

Halo 3 or Killzone 2?

Which one do you prefer?

That;s how your decision will be made.

What he said, you should also look into MAG for the PS3. You can play games of up to 250 players.

SOCOM is competitive, but a TPS, not FPS.

It's not out, and we have almost no information. The most competative shooter on console is Halo, without a doubt. TF2 is also competitive, but not so much on console, and the PS3 version is terrible. Killzone could be a contender, but as it is so far ... not really.

Also i noticed you like CS. Although not among the most competative shooters, Shadowrun still has quite the following on Xbox Live, and is VERY similar to CS.

I'd say 360. Live is better than PSN, and the control setup is better on the XBox for shooters. On the PS3 your thumbs are way too close together.

The 360 also has:

Exclusives:

Halo 3

Gears of War & Gears 2 (TPS but really fun)

Halo 3: ODST (Comes out in October)

Halo Reach (next year)

Multiplat:

CoD: 4 & WaW

Call of Duty: MW2(Coming soon)

The PS3 does have Killzone 2 and Resistance 2, which has 60 player online, but servers are rarely full.

KZ2 is hugely popular right now, but Halo 3 still also has tons as do Call of Duty.

MAG for PS3 only is coming out soon too, with 250 player online. I think this will fail, but it's all just your opinions...

I say 360 for better Live, Exclusive shooters, and Controller setup...

BTW, I own both systems.

Another great one for the PS3, although it is TPS, is Warhawk and it still has lots of people playing.

PS3 because the online is free.

Resistance 2, Killzone 2, M.A.G. this fall and Modern Warfare 2 are 4 AAA FPS', 3 exclusive and all free to play, the 3 exclusives (killzone, resistance, and MAG) all have dedicated servers as well.

if you want to play competitive shooters stay on PC, much better community and competition. Plus, no aim assist.... PC would be the smart move. but if I had to choose a console, I would go PS3.

Halo 3 Gears1+2 Halo 2 ( good amount of people still play it ) Then multi plats and Ms bought time exclusive maps for modern warfare 2

So I would go with 360 unless you cant afford 4 cents per day

Resistane 2, Resistance FoM, Killzone 2, MAG(coming later this year), and all the multiplats on PS3, halo is really awesome, but thats all you get on 360 pretty much(exclusive wise)

and ps3s online is free, and all of the above exclusives(not sure about R FoM) use dedicated servers, so no lag. halo uses matchmaking :/

This thread is still about?

Bottom line. The most competative shooter on consoels is Halo. This is fact. Opinion really has no place here. Resistance, Resistance 2 and Killzone are good yeah, but can't hold a candle to how competative Halo is.

Halo3 will be here long after Resistance and Killzone. It already beats them combined in weekly numbers.

Thanks for the replies, so far. Seems though X-Box 360 might be my best bet, but guess Ill have to look into it some more. Tried Kill Zone II and was quite fun, but I didnt like the controller configuration while playing; just didnt feel natural in the least. Anyone have any experience doing league play at all?

Many people complained about Killzone's controls so they have recently released a patch to fix them. Now the controllers feel quite differently.

I never liked shooters before I got a PS3; I had confined myself to JRPG's for the most part until the COMPLETE JRPG DEARTH of this generation (still pissed about it). The controls are about the same, honestly. I don't really consider gameplay to be much of a factor because it's so standardized in the genre. I don't notice whatever lag is frequently imputed to PSN (usually not by PS3 owners...), but maybe I'm not that picky. In terms of exclusives, I've found that the PS3's are more atmospheric, have better stories, and the graphics have a slight edge (in my, of course, ever so humble opinion). PS3 games also tend to have larger game sizes, for whatever reason. UT3 is a bit dated but it has the customization of a PC game in terms of mods and such, if you're into that. And the upcoming motion controls seem far more amenable to a First Person Shooter than the 360's...and might actually be accurate. That's about it. It's really just a matter of Halo 3 vs. R2/KZ2, if you don't like TPS games. Resistance is a great single player experience with decent online; KZ2 is a decent single player experience with great online. But as I said, my focus is narrative and atmosphere in a game.

Personally, I don't think the shooters are that competitive on either side for exclusives. The best shooters out there are multiplats like Rain Six Vegas, and Modern Warfare. I prefer the 360 for it's controller.

No, but Killzone 2 also isn't part of MLG. It's also other things, like the fact that no scoping actually takes skill, as opposed to call of duty 4.

FPS on consoles? I say 360 but you should do your own research and come up with your own conclusion. Don't, I repeat, do not let this thread be the deciding factor. That's my biggest advice.

If you are looking for shooters, the best place to go is the Xbox 360 or PC. If you are looking at consoles, go with the Xbox 360

And here's why:

  • Xbox Live, while it charges a $50 per year fee (but you can find it for less), has many more users than PSN. Most shooters on the 360 still have a good amount of people playing them. Halo 3 still has loads of people, as well as Call of Duty and others.
  • Halo 3 is THE competitive FPS of this generation so far. And Halo 3: ODST is coming out and will include 3 more multiplayer maps for Halo 3.
  • I think what many people underestimate about the Xbox 360 is its controller. The placement of the analog sticks on the 360 controller feels better for shooting games

For FPS'S definatly the 360 and with the headset's its generaly a more communal activity allowing you to perform tacticaly as a team (In the rare instances your team isn't imature twa*s.)

The PS3 is generaly more about offering deeper single player games and having a wide range of genres. Most 360 exclusives are FPS'S.

Athlough TBF the best Multiplayer experience on both is from a multiplat game (COD4).

The 360 atm is generaly purchased by a younger demographic mostly American teens under the age of 25 wheras the ps3 has a wider collection of diffrent races and peoples which forms the problem that many of those with headsets speak French, German, Spanish, Portugesse so I suppose your age could factor the console you choose aswell.

easy decision to go with the 360 most of the exclusives are shooter gears of war halo etc then you get a better online experience imo with xbox live more people online plus gamebattles is more 360 based than ps3 then you get mlg which is 360 shooters only and world of warcraft no ps3 so if you want a console for shooters 360 is the way to imo also the triggers on the 360 and far superior to ps3s they dont even use them for shooters they use the shoulder buttons and it has a weaker feel imo

[QUOTE="DyersEve0666"]Ive been away from the gaming world for a while now, after playing a few shooters this weekend I realized I had to get back into. Note: I have posted this in two forums before I realized it should have gone in this section (long week and I just smoked)...

try cod 4 or halo 3
