[QUOTE="SpruceCaboose"] 120 million units would be hard for an unopposed system in the current climate to equal. 120 million for a company with two solid competitors (360 and Wii) is downright impossible, so by your logic the PS3 was guaranteed to fail this generation.
The PS3 has plenty of life, and many years left to go in it. Calling it a flop now would be short-sighted at best. It will sell, it will have great games, and it will cull and maintain a fanbase, just like the other 2 systems will do.

There have been what? 6-7 console generations? This is going to be the biggest loss of market share ever. I never expected it to sell like the PS2 did but not this bad.
Its going to be a great system with great games an I will be getting one sometime but I am talking in purely financial terms here.
This is the 7th home system generation.
The PS2 is easily the most successful home system made to date, and without gaming as a medium hitting a growth-spurt, I expect that the PS2 might well be the most successful single home unit ever produced.
So, no, its easy to guess that that the PS3 would suffer a drop in sales, especially after doubling the PS2's price. The question should not be whether or not it equals sales of the PS2 (which it won't), but can it top the 360 and Wii (maybe) or even, could the PS3 make Sony money? (almost certainly yes)
