So they charge £40, design the entire game around a XBox/Playstation controller and strip the game of all complexity. I remember them trying to port an X game to the original XBox but they backed out of it and for the best. They have been working on this game for 7 years too...lol another great PC franchise ruined because of consoles.

Them reducing the complexity doesn't sound like such a bad thing when you consider what the older games in the series are like. From what I've heard, it's essentially single player EVE online, and a slight arcadization of that style isn't such a bad thing. I am more concerned with the horrible performance reports I am hearing of--people with Titans barely getting 40fps.

No it won't. It just easier to believe that the game was built for the consoles instead of accepting the game is extremely ambitious and being built by a developer with less than 30 employees on a tiny budget and is just not finished. They don't have the the money to port it to consoles. They didn't even have the money for proper QA.

This is how Egosoft is. After 10 years of them making the X series you would think people would understand that. However ignorance is bliss and people just blame the consoles when they don't fully understand something.

It's extremely easy to port to PS4, wouldn't be surprised to see a PS4 port announced shortly

Same goes for Rome 2, that was also obviously designed for a controller

They are removing unnecessary complexity that didn't add to the game. That's not dumbing it down. You still build fleets and an empire but in a way that is less dependent on menu surfing and more "immersive". All of it is there but it's extremely unpolished and a lot of things aren't well thought out.

It's ignorant to believe they are porting to the consoles. There is no basis for that other than pure ignorance and fans who somehow cannot believe an underfunded, understaffed studio who is clearly being rushed to get a game out put out an unfinished, unpolished game.

I guess we will have to wait and see but the fact that a 360 controller is better supported than the KB+M makes me really worried. X Rebirth made it to top seller on steam (even priced at £40!) when everyone already knew how complex the franchise was so it's not like it was necessary to make all those changes. And it appears that a lot of the complexity that they removed wasn't just the unnecessary complexity of the previous games.

Use of a gamepad is a good thing, because flying with keyboard and mouse wasn`t very immersive.

PC gamers may be quite whiny sometimes. Everybody by now should have a gamepad. I my self have 4 different controllers. They are bloody cheap now.

And no, this game won`t come to consoles, it`s too niche and complex for them, and the dev just doesn`t have money for that.

All the games from "X" series used to get a havy backlash around the time of the release, some of the reviewers/gamers considered them virtually unplayable, but Egosoft always ironed out most important issues with patches.

I wouldnt take 326 users opinion any indication on how good the game is. There is a discussion about the game on RPS forums and while indeed is a bit disappointing most of the disappointment comes from issues that plagued previous games on x-universe and knowing egosoft and their post support on games those are likely to be fixed. Complaints are mainly about performance and combat and egosoft know it and are working to fix bugs according to this find in egosoft forums

- Cant save: Are you sure there is space on your HD?
- When leaving a station ship controls default to direct control: Noted. We could change this to be turned off indeed.
- German voices: There are a couple of known problems with the german voices. One update is coming today another one late next week. After that it should all work. Sorry for this.
- Trade menu (Moving up and down) : If you can reproduce this and give us instructions on what you did then please email them to info@egosoft.com
- No targeting hotkeys: Noted. Will come in an early update.
- Aisling map bug: Can you please send me that broken savegame to info@egosoft.com ?
- Failed to save dump file: Are you maybe running from a full HD? Please check the space left.
General tips:
- Dont run game in 32bit Windows and make sure you have enough memory free
- Make sure you have latest drivers installed.
- If you have problems with the game, reset all settings in the driver to default
- If you suffer performance problems set the LOD and view distance to low values. Game should still look good but this helps a LOT. Consider turning off shadows, consider medium or low shaders if your GPU is the bottleneck.
I will post more in a seperate posting.
Bug responses continued:
- Crash right at gamestart (but not in start menu): This is very likely memory related. Do not try running the game in 32 bit Windows (this is not officially supported). If you still do it may crash, but more importantly it will definitely crash if you do not set your machine to allow more than 2GB of physical memory. There are tricks to achieve this but in general the rule is: Use a 64bit Windows! UPDATE: Patch 1.12 will give you a message at the start if the game has zero chance of running because of "out of memory" and not even start!
- Exiting the super highway (blue) millions of km away from anything: This seems to be a bug several people report. We are trying to reproduce this but it is not easy. If you have information on how to reproduce, please emailinfo@egosoft.com
- After loading cursor vanishes: Are you on a platform? If not, are you running with multiple monitors maybe and your cursor is just off screen?
- Buying shields (plot bug): Sounds like you just dont have enough money, or the shields dont fit? Did you try going to an enineer? What is the class name of the NPC you are talking to? If this persists, please send a ZIPPED savegame toinfo@egosoft.com
- Mode disabling not possible: Will look into this.
- If you read through all of my two postings and still think you have a NEW crash and got a crash dump, please email it to info@egosoft.com (ZIPPED please!).
Feature requests:
- Zoom on map: Will look into it, but no promise when.
- Autopilot: Noted - Personally I am not a fan of letting the game be played fully automatic though: I guess a compromise will be that this mode will have limitations.
- Facial animations: We will look into facial animations soon, but this is not a top priority. Sorry
- Better indicator for missions: Not sure what you want? The mission object (target marker) should have a different color? We wanted this to be one consistent color for all things missions. So this is the same as the mission objective bar at the moment
- External view: We will look into this but not too soon because it will be part of a bigger update (maybe also including things like Oculus Rift as that too changes the way you look around your own cockpit).
- SINZA (time acceleration: Not a fan of this at all. Sorry you do not have to wait 20 minutes for your trade ships once you have multiple ships. You can que orders and do many things in parallel. So this should not be necessary.
- Running sooth: See tipps in my first posting. In addition: yes we always work on improving performance too of course.
- Tooltips for options menu: Good suggestion. Will see if we can do this. No promise here.
- Targeting hotkeys: Yes will do. Based on your feedback that is for one of the earlier updates even though such "explicit" targets only work in the mouse / keyboard mode. Not with controllers.
- Talking to people on stations: We have a plan for an early patch (early december) which will make the conversations and finding NPCs for jobs a lot easier and more accessible. This has a high priority.
- Skipping conversations: We will look into this, but I can not promise that this is always possible.
- Seeing your ship docking: Yes that would be nice but is a low priority right now.
- Mapping mouse buttons: Will discuss with the right guy and come back.
- Low / medium / high / ultra graphic settings presets: Yes - We will do this.
- Options to set graphics to even lower than what is possible by setting everything to 0. OK we will consider this but right now I must admit that such mid range laptops are not our target platform. Of course we would like to support as wide a variety of hardware as possible, so we will still try our best, but there is simply a limit as to how far down we can scale.
- Oh yes the tipp to get out of a "stuck" platform with ENTER - 5-5 is good. I forgot to list that in post 1.

Not sure about the complexity as I've never played an X game or followed this one but the controller support is likely because most Steam games have it. They're trying to get controller support as the norm for when Steam OS comes out.

Egosoft games always launch in terrible state. You either deal with it or hold off with purchase for 6 months while waiting for patches.

The game is shit on a fundemental level. It's not the bugs, it's the design. No amount of patches are going to fix it.

Well read the forums or user reviews to see. Patching a game is fine to fix performance issues and bugs but when you completely change the gameplay to make it perfectly playable on a console then you have a problem. I don't understand why they would do that on a PC exclusive especially one like the X series other than them wanting to port it over (just like they wanted to do with the original XBox).

As far as I can tell from users' reviews, they complain mostly about bugs, lousy optimization and the unfinished state of the game. You can easily describe any X game Egosoft released exactly like that lol...

But yeah, they screwed up with that price tag. They should have released it on early access on Steam first.

The developer openly stated on wikipedia that the game won´t be on consoles.
