Well i picked up LOTR War in the North this morning and i played it from 10am to 3pm and it is awesome, it plays and even looks similar to Dragon Age in many ways.

Don't care how good or bad reviews might be, this game is great, the graphics, framerate and combat system all play and look fantastic.

It is by far the best LOTR game to date and i don't regret switching my Uncharted 3 preorder for this game one bit, in fact if i had gotten my Uncharted 3 game i would only be about 2 or 3 hours from finishing that game.

LOTR gives me over twice as much more gameplay hours, and even when you beat it, it's not over, the game and level scale continues.

I hope all the new Uncharted 3 owners love online multiplayer, because after 8 hours your game is done.

The real sad part is Uncharted " the 8 hour game " has this big strategy guide, for what i don't know, but this 20 plus hour LOTR RPG from Snowblind studio's has no strategy guide....what a sin, when a game doesn't get as much hype as another one, it doesn't get the strategy guide it really deserves, while the 3rd person shooter / platformer that doesn't need a guide gets one.

How sad is that ?

Best LOTR game to date is Return of the king.

Ive read and watched many reviews and it looks like a simple hack n slash. I heard the city is very open to explore and all but theres nothing to do except buy/sell stuff?

I was thinking about it but 7's across the board dont impress me much...Ill def wait til it hits bargain bin status and that shouldnt be long...Plus we have UC3 and Skyrim to hold us over til then :)

Why is Uncharted 3 being brought into this conversion? I don't understand. Why does anyone care about you canceling your preorder? It sounds like you are just trying to bash UC3, its kinda pathetic.

Anyways these guys made Dark Alliance which was one of my favorite co-op experiences I have ever had. I am definitely going to pick this up. I been hyping this game for awhile.

WHAT ? Nothing to do but buy and sell stuff ? are you kidding me ? You have tons of side quests to do aside from the main quest, endless amounts of great combat, as i said anyone that loved the Dragon Age games will love this game. Oh and by the way i played LOTR Return of the King, and that game isn't fit to shine this one's shoes, this is the best LOTR game bar none...... So do yourself a favor don't listen to reviewers on this one, this is worth every penny of the $65.

Oh well i had an Uncharted 3 thread in here the other day where i announced my switching of my pre-order from Uncharted 3 to LOTR War in the North because i found out that Uncharted's campaign was only 8 hours, and i don't like it's multiplayer, i preferred to spend my money on a 20 plus hour campaign game. The Uncharted fans in here slammed me for it, thats why i mentioned Uncharted 3 here.

Great combat? I heard the combat was very weak....not precise at all according to every review ive read. If the game is going to sell itself as a game BEYOND just another "LOTR" game, it needs to do combat well being a hack n slash. Thats my main gripe so far...gametrailers and Game informer both harped on this point extrensivly in their reviews.

it sucks beacuse war in the north could have been such a fantastic game.

Is this a troll thread then? I thought it was about LOTR war of the north...

Edit: Yup it is, just re-read the TC statement, its just an UC3 bashing thread.

Whoa whoa whoa, first off YOU ASKED A QUESTION if you should cancel for LOTR war in the north. Secondly they didnt bash you, they gave their honest opinions on whether you should or not. you're the only one who got duped here lol. I guarantee when you walked up to the counter the guy grabbed Uncharted 3 and then you said 'um sir, i will take war in the north please' and he was like 'whaaa?'.

Yeah i respected Game Informer reviews until now, i bet you anything the guy that reviewed it was a die hard Dragon Age fan, and when he played LOTR W.o.N he got mad because it was the same kind of menu system and combat, so maybe he felt Snowblind ripped off Bioware. Even though i hear they blame the story, but i've been following it, and i think it's great, not only do they manage to have a great separate story with the 3 main characters having this battle in the northern part of the map, but they intertwine it with the regular story of the LOTR from the books and films smoothly.

Acutally as he states in the review, he is a DIE HARD Snowblind studios fan (dev team) and he states some of his favorite games are Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath. Just sayin...

I'll be honest with you, i was the one who actually said to the sales clerk, " so i bet i'm the only one who changed his pre-order from Uncharted 3 to LOTR, right ?" So he said "yeah your the only one" and i said "well the reason is i don't like Uncharted multiplayer and since it only has an 8 hour campaign, i would rather spend my $65 on a game with over a 20 hour campaign". Then he was like "actually that does make more sense now that i think about it", so i was like " right, what am i going to do with this new Uncharted $65 game after i beat it in 8 hours ?, i'm not going to want to play it again and i don't like the multiplayer". Hey the guy was a fellow RPG lover he not only agreed with me, we also agreed that all other games will fall to the waste side anyway once Skyrim comes out.

Well then maybe he was looking for a game like Baldurs Gate or Champions of Norrath, but instead it's closer to Dragon Age.

Yeah " YOU HEARD" the combat was weak, you didn't play it, if you can play it before buying, alla gamefly or some other way, maybe a demo then come in here tell us your opinion on the combat. In my opinion it's exactly like Dragon Age combat, even more advanced in some ways.

Listen while you're right that you can rush through the campaign at 8 hours, doesnt QUALITY mean more than the QUANITITY of ours? If the 20 hours is mediocre wouldnt you rathre have 8 amazing hours worth of gaming? And like I said, you dont NEED to rush through the game. Do you know batman AC can be beaten if rushed in 6 hours right? (i did that on NG+) You can also hunt for treatures and playthrough to get your crushing achiev. Just saying...

Im a tremendous LOTR fan which is why I have been following the game, but I make no bones about it, the game is mediocre everywhere you look.

[QUOTE="Slimmin360"]...it plays and even looks similar to Dragon Age in many ways ... 20 plus hour LOTR RPG ...CrazyKilljoy117

Excuse my ignorance, but I watched some gameplay for War in the North and it was a hack and slash. Is the console version of Dragon Age a hack and slash too? I've only played the PC version and it wasn't a hack and slash like in the video...

Oh and I have approximately 462 hours over the span of a year in LOTRO and I have just barely arrived at Moria last night ;)

Best LOTR game to date is Return of the king.SRTtoZ
Beg to differ. Lord of the Rings Online is the best LotR game to date!

LOTRO is ok...the worlds are emtpy and the free to play is a joke. You need to pay for quests if you really want to level up in the game. Im a longgg time LOTRO subscriber (way before it went free) so I think I know what I'm talking about. The game is fun but we are talking singleplayer LOTR experiences here IMO.

Also to address your 2nd point of the hack n slash vs Dragon age thing. He cant be talking about Origins which ISNT hack n slash at all. If anything hes talking about that dreadfully awful dragon age 2 game which was probably the worst "RPG" ive ever played.

This looks like one of those games that some will love and some will think its meh. I think ill rent this on a console and if I like it Ill get it on PC. Just to many games atm ;)

And if it gets mainly 7/10 in reviews then so be it, some of my fav games seem to get in 7s or 8s.

Bought Uncharted 3 and Lotr War in the north earlier, I'll play Lotr when I'm done with Uncharted 3.

As for reviews, i'm sorry people writing reviews the past few years has become a joke, everything apparently gets a 8 or a 8.5 (for amazing games) then everything else gets a 6-7.5

Im a tremendous LOTR fan which is why I have been following the game, but I make no bones about it, the game is mediocre everywhere you look.

While i agree in quality over quantity desire, i'm also getting 20 quality hours with LOTR W.o.N, i'm loving every minute of it, and while i also agree that Uncharted 3 is a great game and has 8 quality hours of great gameplay, maybe longer if taken time to explore and treasure hunt a bit.

The wiser choice to me is still the longer rpg game, regardless of reviews, ya' know i used to go strictly by reviews because i couldn't afford to waste money on a bad $65 game, i still can't, but i'm sure i missed out on a lot of under rated great games because of my good reviews rule.

However this is one time i am very happy to say i bought before the reviews came out and i don't regret it at all, it's a great game, and unless the rest of you have played it, your not qualified to voice an opinion against it.

You can't go by a Youtube gameplay video or screenshots and reviews, this game, story, graphics, combat, and all needs to be experienced to really appreciate how good it is.

I'm enjoying it a lot so far. It isn't this amazing, breathtaking game but it's simple fun. Honestly, after Dark Souls I'm ok with this simple adventure and just slaughtering Orcs by the hundreds with my friends. I don't know if I'd have that much fun with the co-op but damn it, it was entertaining for the last couples hours.

Thank you, thats what i'm saying, it's not this gorgeous breathtaking rpg like Skyrim, but it's a really fun hack and slash rpg, with a good story, familiar characters and local's, and great loot, armor and weapons.

I dont think its an opinion that the 8-12 hours you get with Uncharted 3 are way more mindblowing than the 20 you get with War of the north. It might not be a bad game, but to put it near Uncharted? Very silly.

If you had come in here and said "Im enjoying the game, dont listen to the reviews, here is what I like about it, etc etc" I would have been like COOL, tell me more man, I was thinkin about getting it down the road, but nooo you had to tell the world how its a better investment than Uncharted. I'm sorry when you do that you're looking for trouble...

Why can't i compare the two ?, because one is getting so much more hype than the other ?, thats not right, i love rooting for the underdog. It's the Uncharted predecessors and media that has caused all this hype around a game that has a really short campaign for a price of $65, i'm just trying to point out that there are other new games out there that deserve a person's money just as much if not more.

[QUOTE="Slimmin360"] Never said it was mediocrity, you did, i said it was great, every minute of every hour played thus far, and the more i play the better it gets. I'd rather have 20 hours of top notch rpg hack and slashing, then 8 hours of bang bang, climb here, jump there, pick that up and reload this.Slimmin360

Lol ill get way more hours out of Uncharted 3 then this mediocre game, i know you dont like its MP but other people love it like my self.

I feel like you secretly work for whatever developers made the game and you are now here to advertise it. Or are you, I don't know...bashing on the game? Personally I would choose Uncharted over the LOTR game (I've only played a bit of each though). I am sure though that people have at least one reason to repeat the Uncharted campaign. I do tend play campaigns more than once, even in the PS1 days when there were no rewards for really doing so. Also Co-Op and Multiplayer, doesn't seem that bad really. I guess if you don't like the online then, you have a very great opinion. I'm not arguing against that. Also how you can say that LOTR is comparable to Dragon Age. First thing, the definite Dragon Age that people should play is the PC version, and LOTR: WotN is nothing like that. I guess the console versions, if that. How many side quests and stuff are there in WotN? To your question, it isn't really that sad at all.

I just bought Lord of the Rings: War in the North, Uncharted 3 and Sonic Generations. The game I have the most urge to play is Lord of the Rings. Im still stoked for Uncharted 3 but I really wanna play something other than a shooter right now.

I can see how the combat can get repetitive but it's par for the course when it comes to this genre. Character models aren't too shabby either. One detail I absolutely loved though, was the rain trickling down on the character's hair and armor and rain soaked ground in Bree. It's a very little thing but I've always loved those small details. Definitely worth the purchase so far.
